[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 907381] Re: [Dell Vostro 3550] Display resolution keeps switching with external monitor connected

Some good news - I've now been running for 3 days solid with the
xinput's disabled and have had absolutely NO resolution switches.

So - where does this leave this bug - does that narrow down the actual
issue? Is there something else I can do to generate further diagnostic
information?

2014-04-16 Thread Goran Obal
Lee Willis - that's very nice to hear!

Yeah, it would be interesting to know the actual issue, so I would also
like the developers to further investigate it. If it were purely
hardware error, the switching would occur in Windows (7 in my test case)
too, but it doesn't.

However, I am very glad that workaround solves the problem, so Vostro
3550 users can enjoy linux!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308515] [NEW] black screen when enabling rotation on a gpu screen

2014-04-16 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

Running with the proprietary nvidia drivers in an optimus config works,
but enabling reflection or rotation on the intel screen causes a black
screen to appear.

[Impact]
 * Causes a black screen if rotation or reflection is enabled.

[Test Case]
 * Run xrandr --output SOMEOUTPUT --rotation left
- Expected: Screen should rotate, or the call should fail.
- Bad behavior: Succeeds, but causes a black screen.

[Regression Potential]
 * The affected codepaths have reflection and rotation disabled for gpu
screens. Another fix could be fixing reflection/rotation, but that will be more
involved and likely require driver fixes.

[Other Info]
 * N/A

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272720] Re: sometimes boot fails

2014-04-16 Thread thom
@Tima, yes that is correct, I have some dkms package installed that
needs the headers. I do have the linux-generic package installed and
it also pulls the headers in. The problem was that it consequently
installed the headers *after* processing dkms.

Since the last few updates, the problem seems to be solved upstream. (
Now running kernel 3.13.0-24-generic at the moment).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: HDMI Handshake fails after TV powered off

2014-04-16 Thread Mario Limonciello
After some more sleuth work with NVIDIA, we've discovered that this is
happening because of a RANDR event. An X client is responding to the
RANDR events and forcing it to this NULL resolution.

I checked what clients were running, and it's xfsettingsd causing this
problem. If I kill xfsettingsd prior to turning on/off my TV it comes
back at the right resolution.

** Summary changed:

- HDMI Handshake fails after TV powered off
+ Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

** Description changed:

- I had an HTPC with Mythbuntu 12.04 installed and all included NVIDIA 185
- driver package. Connected to the HTPC is an audio receiver and from the
- audio receiver a TV.
-
- I had no problems on NVIDIA 185.
-
- Since upgrading to 14.04 I have tried both the 304.117 driver as well as
- the 331.38 driver. Both have a new behavior that if the TV is power
- cycled it no longer detects a link.
+ I had an HTPC with Mythbuntu 12.04 installed. Upon upgrading a new
+ behavior that if the TV is power cycled it no longer detects a link with
+ the HTPC.

When this happens I can find in the xorg log that there is an
  accompanying log item:

  [ 39829.509] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode NULL

- Upon recommendations from the internet i've captured the EDID, tried to
- hardcode the metamodes in the xorg conf, and regenerated the xorg conf
- using nvxconfig to no avail. The problem persists.
+ After debugging with NVIDIA at
+ https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/729955/linux/tv-stops-being-

+ Working through the list in an Xfce environment, the culprit is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1275760] Re: low graphics mode due to possible race condition on precise

2014-04-16 Thread Bernhard
I have added module nvidia to /etc/modules to ensure it will be loaded
at boot time;

cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with # are ignored.
nvidia

and then update initramfs with update-initramfs -uk all.

No problem so far after one week testing!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1099115] Re: Can't change brightness while screen is locked

2014-04-16 Thread Julian
I'm affected too. Basically I'm trying to use physical volume knob of external
USB DAC to manipulate the volume of the sound.
But since the screen is locked the knob is not working.. till I unlock the
screen.

The things become even more frustrating when I use the Power settings
and set Do nothing option when you close the lid of the laptop.
However when I close the lid what's happen is lock the screen (it turns
it off, which is OK) but it also disables the external control.

It would be great if sound control is allowed while the screen is locked
and also some of the FN+key controls.

P.S. Let me know if there is known workaround (like adding some udev
rule, permission or configuration).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308787] [NEW] The orange frame that indicates a resized window isn't going away

2014-04-16 Thread Eric Promislow
Public bug reported:

You know when you move a window towards the edge of the screen and Unity
decides to maximize it, and highlights it with an orange frame and
shadow to let you know that it's messing with you? This time the frame
didn't go away when I pulled the window away from the edge.

I know about sticky edges and that toggle has no effect on this behavior.
But the general behavior isn't what this
bug is about. It's that it looks like I'm going to have to log out to fix this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308319] [NEW] AMD Radeon HD 7340 [1002:9808] Unable to adjust brightness with fglrx-updates

2014-04-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

CID: 201206-11156 HP Pavilion 20 AIO

There is a scroll bar in Brightness and Lock applet, screen brightness
on this AIO could be adjusted with the open source driver, but not with
the proprietary fglrx-updates driver.

Steps:
1. Install 12.04.4, and the fglrx-updates proprietary driver
2. Boot to desktop, try to adjust brightness in Brightness and Lock applet

Expected result:
* Brightness can't be adjusted on this system
or
* Brightness control works fine

Actual result:
* There is a scroll bar in Brightness and Lock applet, when you try to adjust
it, you could scroll it freely but nothing happens.

The open-source driver would suffer from bug 1243621
I'm not sure if a brightness control issue should be considered as a blocker on
AIO, but I will still add those tags.
