[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313378] Re: [hsw mesa] Intel 4000 video crashes on play

2014-05-01 Thread Chris Wilson
It's not the original warning, and is actually fair evidence that the
gfx driver is still working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313378] Re: [hsw mesa] Intel 4000 video crashes on play

2014-05-01 Thread Chris Wilson
Which? The original is likely just to be the mesa bug to be fixed in a
10.1 update. For the latter, you will need a serial or net console to
capture the first oops, or maybe just set boot_delay=10 on the kernel
commandline during boot (if the panic is during boot).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314551] Re: 1002:130f [GIgabyte G1.Sniper A88X-CF] Font corruption

2014-05-01 Thread Florian Hars
Installing fglrx results in an unbootable system, even rebooting into
failsafeX mode hangs completly after configuring the network. Luckily
there has been a kernel update since the beta, so I could use the old
grub entry to boot into failsafe mode and puge fglrx from there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315006] [NEW] Installing fglrx makes the system unbootable, even in failsafeX

2014-05-01 Thread Florian Hars
Public bug reported:

I installed fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle, ran sudo amdconfig --initial and
rebooted, and the machine hung. Rebooting into failsafeX mode behaved
the same. Luckily there had been a kernel update since the beta, so I
could boot into failsafeX mode using the grub entry for the previous
kernel and purge fglrx from there. (failsafeX didn't really work either,
but it gave me a rootshell.)

I'll attach whatever I found in the syslog for a hanging boot attempt.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314780] Re: Full screen between xorg and VMWare-Workstation

2014-05-01 Thread mitchell486
** Description changed:

This is a minor bug that seems to be a conflict between xorg and VMWare
Workstation 9 in Ubuntu 14.04. It seems most noticeable and prevalent
with dual monitors. This issue was not present in 12.04. The taskbar at
the top of the screen that is always present seems to give issues with
full screen VMWare. In 12.04, it would stay at the top for a bit and
then go away if you clicked anywhere in the full screen window. With
14.04, it doesn't show up at all anymore but it is still there. It is
a ghost of it and then will be a selectable option. If you click in the
full screen window anywhere, the taskbar does not show at the top, but
it is still selectable as an option. The focus does not go to the full
screen. You can do things in there as long as the thing you are trying
to do doesn't reside at the top of the screen where it would be the
taskbar. Once you select the top of the screen where the taskbar should
be, this makes the VMWare window the active window in xorg, it then goes
on top of the taskbar again. This is a major inconvenience bug because
when you try to select anything in the top right while the taskbar is
still on top of the full screen without appearing to be on top, it
will select either the calendar or power settings or anything up in the
  top right.

Attached are screenshots as the process happens.

Step 1. Click on the screen which ISN'T FULL SCREEN VMWARE.
Step 2. Click anywhere in full screen VMWare window except top where taskbar
resides. Taskbar is hidden but still on top.
Step 3. Click where taskbar is in right corner and it will overtake the full
screen window. You can select date, power, english, etc..
Step 4. Click anywhere else at very top of screen, taskbar will then go away
and VMWare fullscreen will work properly.

+ EDIT: Apparently I have been calling the bar at the top the wrong name.
+ It's MenuBar. The Ubuntu MenuBar is not playing well with fullscreen
+ VMWare Workstation. It also doesn't show up for using File, Edit, etc...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314871] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2014-05-01 Thread Jens Melzer
I have the same issue on xubuntu after switching to use compiz, because
of screen tearing in videos.(which fixed the screen tearing).

I often encounter it in wine games like Hearthstone or World of
Warcraft.

I have a Nvidia GTX 760 and 331.38 driver on 64bit

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1299499]

2014-05-01 Thread Kenxeth
I gave up on waiting and just pushed my original fix.

commit 0380ec467d78f40b5c8134158ca48b4c5378b282
Author: Kenneth Graunke kenn...@whitecape.org
Date: Wed Mar 12 01:43:40 2014 -0700

i965: Don't enable reset notification support on Gen4-5.

arekm reported that using Chrome with GPU acceleration enabled on GM45
triggered the hw_ctx != NULL assertion in brw_get_graphics_reset_status.

We definitely do not want to advertise reset notification support on
Gen4-5 systems, since it needs hardware contexts, and we never even
request a hardware context on those systems.

Cc: 10.1 mesa-sta...@lists.freedesktop.org
Bugzilla: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75723
Signed-off-by: Kenneth Graunke kenn...@whitecape.org

Hopefully it'll get picked up for the next 10.1 release...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315135] [NEW] xorg.conf deleted during upgrade; native resolution no longer works

2014-05-01 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded a desktop system from 13.10 to 14.04, and to my horror
found that the monitor's native resolution was no longer supported: the
best setting offered was 1024×768 or somesuch.

Turns out the upgrade deleted xorg.conf. There were two backups: one
with the date as a suffix (.01052014) and one with just .backup as a
suffix. The one with the date didn't look like what I had before, so I
restored xorg.conf from xorg.conf.backup instead.

Now I think I'm back in the resolution I had before (after going to the
Display settings), but there's something wrong. The resolution isn't
quite the native one so many pixels are fuzzy, causing my eyes to ache,
and the font inside menus looks a few sizes too small. It's hard to
read and leaves a lot of horizontal space in the menus unused. It also
makes kerning look irregular.

The monitor is an Iiyama ProLite E2407HDSV. It's supposed to do
1920×1080, but the best I can get working properly in the Display
settings is 1680×1050. The next step up, 1920×1080, won't show the
entire screen — large swathes of the desktop fall outside the physical
display.

Also, I don't know if these are related, but window menus now appear not
only at the top of the screen or in the window's title bar (depending on
the new configuration setting in 14.04), but also in the classic pre-
Unity location: right below the window's title bar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315135] Re: xorg.conf deleted during upgrade; native resolution no longer works

2014-05-01 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
It's beginning to look like an nvidia driver problem. I tried switching
to Noveau; that left me with a resolution of 640×480, with no other
options. (In case you're wondering: it looks great but isn't very
practical). Switching back to the proprietary driver deleted my
xorg.conf again. After a few times back and forth between the two
drivers, and restoring xorg.conf, I now suddenly find that most of the
fuzzy pixels are gone, the GUI fonts look good again, the menu bars are
back to the Unity style, and looking at the screen no longer hurts my
eyes!

No idea what happened, or why making the same changes earlier didn't
produce the same effects. Let's just hope it stays the way it looks
now.

the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314209] Re: 047f:c006 [Dell OptiPlex GX260] USB Headset buttons don't work

2014-05-01 Thread WattoDaToydarian
Hello Chris,

I just tried the nightly build from 4/1/14 and while using the Live OS without
installing the volume buttons on the headset worked however mute did not and
still causes the left mouse button to click.
I wonder if I'm missing something in my LTSP build that allows the volume
buttons to work. What would that be exactly?

Hello folks,

After a fresh install of Trusty (14.04) my screen goes black after some
usage (random time)

The computer is not freeze, Capslock and numlock works, also I can use
sysrq keys in order to reboot my system.

The only way to recover the display is to put my laptop to sleep
(closing the lid) and wake up it. But after that, it flicks and displays
mess on screen and nothing except terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1) is usable. I
tried to restart X without success, all things continues to flick

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242572] Re: xkeyboard-config, console-setup, and ubiquity should use Super+Space for switching keyboard layouts

2014-05-01 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Maarten, can you cherrypick

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-
config/patch/?id=40bc9e68840dd525047186ebb9277bedf9b892da

Into both trusty unicorn? And i'll handle ubiquity/console-config
cases.
