[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1317046] [NEW] Extensive flicker on NVIDIA since yesterday's update
Public bug reported: I did an apt-get upgrade yesterday and rebooted, and since then my desktop windows flicker on changes enough to make the system difficult to use. For example, pop-ups on chrome will flicker between two spots over and over and continue to flicker so long as I am typing (happening right now on each keystroke typing here, fragments of a Chrome plugin notification will alternate positions on each keystroke). Also in chrome, changing tabs will cause the previous and next tab to flicker alternating rapidly for a moment before the new selection is set. This effect happens changing any windows so it isn't peculiar to Chrome. I noticed also that on rebooting after the upgrade, the settings for my two monitor display had been reset to the defaults. Prior to the update, the window manager was working fine. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]
However, for most French people, standard Right-Ctrl key is more important than Nbsp. Especially for left-handed people who use left hand for the mouse and most letters, and right hand for Shift, Ctrl and AltGr. A notable exception is Alt which only exists on the left. Anyway, it's written Ctrl on the Right-Ctrl, so it MUST behave as a Ctrl. Put nbsp where you want, but give us back the Right-Ctrl. 2014-05-07 11:41 GMT+02:00 Nicolas-mailhot-laposte 1013...@bugs.launchpad.net: (In reply to comment #75) Nicolas, Where does the need to *have* a key for nbsp come from? What if nbsp is accessible using AltGr+Space or AltGt+Shift+Space ? 2014-05-07 14:00 GMT+02:00 Emmanuel Castro emmanuel.cas...@laposte.net: However, for most French people, standard Right-Ctrl key is more important than Nbsp. I confirm that the Qt from https://launchpad.net/~canonical-x/+archive/x-staging does XISelectEvents on the master pointer (instead of the touchscreen slave device, as previously) and that the resulting behavior of the xserver is good. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
Problem solved for me: Lenovo Ideapad s10-3 with fresh install of Lubuntu 14.04. Wouldn't suspend from the shutdown menu, nor would it standby/suspend when the lid was closed. I installed xscreensaver, made sure it was set to activate after 0 mins, inserted an entry for xscreensaver under menupreferencesdefault applications for lxsessioncore applications, and hit reload. Rebooted to make sure, but it now suspends from menu, and when the lid is closed. Under /etc/default/grub I took out a nomodeset start code, but that probably hasn't had anything to do with this as the symptoms are replicable either way, and also fixable either way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283938 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-trusty/+bug/1283938/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315156] Re: nvidia-331 selected but nouveau loads
Found how nouveau was being loaded while blacklisted: it's in the initramfs and nvidia-331_hybrid.conf wasn't. This can be fixed by updating the initramfs (sudo update-initramfs -u, assuming the kernel you are currently running is the one you want to use nvidia-331 with), but my system also seems to have forgotten that nvidia-* needs the text-only splash screen (bug 1063969), causing it to drop into a low resolution graphics mode. This can be worked around by disabling the splash screen entirely (remove splash from the kernel command line in /etc/default/grub then run update-grub). ** Description changed: After upgrading to Trusty, I briefly used the nouveau driver to check whether bug 1243557 still existed; after finding that it did, I switched back to nvidia-331. Touch events are reported to both qmlscene (from the slave device) and to compiz (from the master device). compiz rejects the touch sequence and it's not delivered to anyone else 2- user now presses on the desktop background. TouchBegin, TouchOwnership and further TouchUpdates are sent to compiz. 3- compiz rejects the touch sequence. TouchPuntToNextOwner fails to emulate a pointer and pass it to nautilus as it still thinks that touch 1 is active. And as per pointer emulation rules, only the oldest active touch is used for touch emulation. From the logs, the lines are: [ 9223.917] (II) TouchPuntToNextOwner: touch 2 [ 9223.917] (II) - Not all older pointer emulated touches have been seen yet. Oldest touch(client_id=1, active=1, pending_finish=0, emulate_pointer=1). 4- user lifts his finger So that scenario on touch 1 clearly left xserver in an inconsistent, buggy, state. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1286372] Re: In Lubuntu, Synaptics touchpad double-tap to open works badly
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1286326 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286326 It seems that the synclient MaxDoubleTapTime setting (or setting MaxDoubleTapTime in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d\50-synaptics.conf) does not govern the Synaptics double-tap. Instead, the Synaptics touchpad is responding to a GTK2 setting.in which the default double-tap time is 250 ms. To change that per-user (and there is probably a global setting somewhere -- wish I knew where), create ~/.gtkrc-2.0 with the content like: gtk-double-click-time=400 though values up to 1000 are sometimes suggested.
