I disabled the kernel option quiet.
After switching to tty console, dmesg | grep fb_fix returns :

There seems to be an ibus problem with similar symptoms:

workaround there, but that workaround doesn't fix this issue).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328898] Re: VMware guest video broken by the 3.2.0.64 kernel update

2014-07-03 Thread cfriedt
Oh dear...

It seems like we're narrowing it down at least, but it definitely seems
to be limited to older VMWare versions and possibly only Windows hosts.

@cedricg91 would you be able to follow up with Thomas Hellstrom's
request for a VM image? In fact, would you be able to just put it up
publically via FTP, because I'd certainly like to test this out myself.

https://communities.vmware.com/message/2398248#2398248

Also, for anyone who has experienced this issue, would you please post
your exact VMware Player version, I guess the VMware .vmx file version,
and possibly also your host OS?

2014-07-03 Thread rojer
Chris, as mentioned above, my host is a modified Ubuntu 12.04 (with a newer
3.13 kernel), amd64.
i'm afraid i cannot post exact build details because it's an internal corporate
build.
my player version is 6.0.2 build-1744117, guest os is a vanilla 12.04 amd64

the image i'm using was created a couple years ago using earlier
versions of vmware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314213] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad X220] External DP1 monitor extremely unstable since upgrade to 14.04

2014-07-03 Thread pureblood
For some weird reasons, by deleting all configuration files in my home
directory, the behavior reverted to what it was with Ubuntu 13.10. I
cannot reproduce the crash anymore. I still need to add the correct
resolution with xrandr as it is not detected correctly. Somehow there is
a lurking bug in i915, but this must have been triggered by some weird
settings I had in Unity. This is my best guess.

Public bug reported:

Hello,

Sometimes my X crashes and restart automatically and give me the error
message Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource
temporarily unavailable) on X server :2.#012.

Sometimes my X partially freezes like my mouse is working, but I can't

I'm running on a laptop and I have a second screen using laptop
displayport.

It happens very often since I switched to Ubuntu 14.04. On 13.10
sometimes my X crashed but few times only and it was related to
LibreOffice only (at first glance...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1337420] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't work with Nvidia GeForce GT 610

2014-07-03 Thread Alan Robertson
Public bug reported:

After getting no response on my previous complaint about xorg in 14.04
(and ATI/AMD dropping Linux support), I decided I needed to replace my
video card. So, I got an nVidia GeForce GT610.

It doesn't work with the installed 14.04 system, and it doesn't work
with the installer either. I've attached a picture from the installer.
And I will attach a picture of the box that the video card came in - so
you can see some details about it.

** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: picture of the installer screen - a few minutes after the
DVD stopped running...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1337581] [NEW] Wacom mouse does not allow screen saving

2014-07-03 Thread tiar
Public bug reported:

If a normal mouse remains still, screen saving will activate in Ubuntu
as user has defined.

If a Wacom-mouse is left on the tablet and remains still, screen saving
will not activate in Ubuntu (14.04) as user has defined. Unfortunately I
can not remember if this was an issue with Ubuntu 12.04.

Tested with Wacom Bamboo Fun A6, Wacom mouse and 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1337586] [NEW] Mouse loses focus when multiple windows are open

2014-07-03 Thread Brian Gerdes
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I have done a little research and it appears
that this could be related to my USB headset and mouse. I am using a
Logitech G930 wireless USB headset and a Logitech G9x wired mouse.

When I first boot into Ubuntu everything works fine, even with one
window open (i.e. Firefox). I can browse the internet, open new tabs,
etc., and everything functions as expected. As soon as I open another
window or program (i.e. System settings, Terminal) I am unable to select
any options in the focused window. If I click something on the focused
window (the window in front of another window) the mouse click will
actually register on the window below.. if that makes sense :/ However,
I am able to select things using the keyboard.

I am also unable to open any new programs on my quick launch bar, alt-
tab doesn't work.. right-click on empty desktop won't open the menu,
etc.

The only way to fix this is to restart the X server or reboot.

My headset and mouse function properly in the Windows OS. I have also
tried them together using Linux Mint 17 w/ Cinnamon desktop and had the
same problem.

One thing I noticed with Linux Mint 17 was that everything appeared to
work properly until I updated the kernel via software update and
rebooted. I then started encountering the mouse/window focus issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1337609] [NEW] Laptop lid standby issue on Kubuntu 14.04 LTS

2014-07-03 Thread Stefano Balzan
Public bug reported:

Hello,
this is the first issue/bug I report to the developers team, I hope I'm
reporting it the right way.
I've been trying to find an answer to the issue described here (
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2232672 ) but nothing similar was
found by google or in the forum.

Any help or suggestion is welcome

Best regards

Accurate description of the issue (from the linked topic):

Kubuntu 14.04 on laptop goes into standby again when lid reopened

I have this problem with my ASUS K54HR Laptop: when I close the lid
it goes into standby mode but when I open the lid again it power up for
a second (the screen lights up for exactly 1-2 secs) and then falls back
into standby. I have 2 partitions, root and home, so I decided to
reinstall the system keeping all home files. If run the original kubuntu
14.04 image from a usb stick there's no problem with standby. Also if I
login as a different user everything works fine. I think it could be
related to some user configuration or some file in my home folder.

I found out someone with the same problem on Xubuntu but it wasn't
helpful. Did anybody else found the same issue?

Any suggestions are more than welcome
