[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349866] Re: display blank after resume (consistent)
Confirmed as per duplicate report #1350910; as suggested there, I flashed new BIOS to F.28 without any improvement; the changelog [1] does not mention anything display-related either. (The flash BIOS utility can be run in Windows (on any computer) to create USB flash, which can be used in the Linux machine to update the BIOS, without depending on the OS.) I confirm that installing fglrx or fglrx-updates (which was previously, when trusty first came, freezing the system at boot-time IIRC) works around the issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal+
djchandler, I understand completely your predicament, as I am in the same situation (Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934). What I did to WORKAROUND the Radeon overheat issue was to utilize cpu governoring, as outlined in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/ReducedPower . Despite this, as is known, the root cause remains is that AMD has made a conscious decision to not continue support of their closed source, proprietary drivers (fglrx-*) for later kernel versions with the HD 2000-4000 graphics cards. As a best possible, but infinitely unlikely case, the Ubuntu Community could implement (and already initiated via PPAs) hack-arounds, where tweaking open source packages that interact with fglrx enables it to work on later kernel versions. The problem with this of course is that we have no formal support from AMD, and the Ubuntu Community would be solely responsible for formally maintaining this heroic effort. This is not getting into the discussion of how would AMD perceive, let alone sanction this action if formalized (kind of embarrassing that an open source community is picking up the slack for something one would argue AMD should be maintaining). While I would absolutely love to see this type of support, I would never expect this due to the above, and given if the hack-arounded packages require a security package that breaks this functionality many people would rely on, it could be quite some time before a fix would be in place, if ever. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 Title: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal+ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1058040/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@scottrichie: Yes, this should probably still be SRU'd for Trusty, but I'm reluctant to do it on its own as nvidia-304* doesn't provide libcuda-5.5-1 and so only nvidia-331-* should directly be affected by this bug. Ubuntu 12.10 reached End of Life (EOL) on May 16, 2014 and is no longer supported. In order to continue using it (not recommended because of potential security issues), you need to change your apt sources to point to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ If you need help doing that, please use a support resource, such as https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu or the sites suggested at http://community.ubuntu.com/help-information/ If you don't like to upgrade often, a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is highly recommended, since it will be supported until 2019. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1360851 Title: Unable to update either OS or any app, APT is also disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1360851/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1360998] [NEW] [Nvidia Quadro FX 3500] lockups - Ubuntu 14.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I am having a similar issue to the bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1310762 ; Lockups that can sometimes be resolved by hitting Alt+F1 and going to the console, then hitting Alt+F7 to go back to the gui. Sometimes the screen should've been updated to the logon screen after the screensaver kicks in and I move the mouse, but instead I occasionally see garbage, then have to hit Alt+F1, and Alt+F7, and it will bring me to a black screen with a mouse cursor that if I type my password in will bring me to the desktop (although sometimes that doesn't work). It apparently should be displaying the logon screen, but my actual screen never gets updated. Hardware Configuration: *Quadro FX 3500 on a Dell Precision 390 desktop *DVI to HDMI cable *Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty) ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Nvidia Quadro FX 3500] lockups - Ubuntu 14.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1360998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
