[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365336] Re: Lightdm update=No desktop

2014-09-10 Thread Robert Ancell
I've made the CanGraphical support optional and off by default as
suggested by Laércio. However, it is still good to update the various
drivers to register with udev so this feature can work. This feature is
likely to be useful in speeding up boot and making sure we're not racing
the drivers. It may provide solutions to bug 969489 or bug 873495.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1341309] Re: [965gm mesa] TotalBlackCrash_or_IntermittingScreenView, GPU lockup in Chromium

2014-09-10 Thread pino
Genoa-Italy, 911 2014 -- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, dual boot (XP also) with
dedicated partition.

Half an hour ago, I had again the same subscribed crash, Chromium browsing an
MSN OutLook Webmail (account *@live.it), just before the click on button for
sending a message, which i later found has been correctly sended.
_

Only for help <>:

a) Few minuts ago Firefox crashed twice, and i had reported it.

b) Often, while booting, i see message about not ready or not existing
/tmp.

c) The LibreOffice suite was not working, i uninstalled it, then
reinstalled, but still not working; now is not installed, and i see a
"white shit" launcher icon (LibreOffice title appears when pointing
mouse on it) which came after LibreOffice 3.5 installation even not
working (LibreOffice 3.5 - Fatal Error -The application cannot be
started. An internal error occurred.), which i uninstalled, from Ubuntu
Software Center, in which seems not installed in spite of the icon still
existing. Nor is working a try for installation of the suite dowloaded
from Apache site.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2014-09-10 Thread Adam Purkrt
Found partial workaround today.

It _is_ possible to setup xkb so that the group (i.e. layout) switch
occurs on + (which means press and hold Shift, then press
Alt - order matters) - and still ++ (first alt,
then shift, then something) shortcuts work. All this without the need to
recompile xserver.

Here's what I did:

$ setxkbmap us,cz
(just load the layouts I want to the server, switching not working yet)
$ xkbcomp $DISPLAY xkbdesc
(list the xkb description from server to a file named "xkbdesc")

Now two little changes to xkbdesc:

change1:

 key  { [   Alt_L,  Meta_L ] };
to
 key  { [   Alt_L,  ISO_Next_Group ] };

change2:

  key  {
  type[group1]= "TWO_LEVEL",
 type[group2]= "ONE_LEVEL",
 symbols[Group1]= [   Alt_R,  Meta_R ],
 symbols[Group2]= [ ISO_Level3_Shift ]
  };
to
  key  {
  type[group1]= "TWO_LEVEL",
 type[group2]= "TWO_LEVEL",
 symbols[Group1]= [   Alt_R,  ISO_Next_Group ],
 symbols[Group2]= [ ISO_Level3_Shift, ISO_Next_Group ]
  };

then
$ xkbcomp xkbdesc $DISPLAY
(load kbdesc to the server; ignore the warnings)

and voila! Shift+Alt (in that order) switches us<->cz keyboard and
Alt+Shift+Tab works like it should.

I was actually quite surprised when I found this.

PS: Next time you start X, you can do just the last step, supposed you
keep the xkbdesc file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367870] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 system with Radeon HD 6330M hangs regularly, especially when using Google Chrome

2014-09-10 Thread Lucas Partridge
Public bug reported:

I'm reporting this bug at the request of k...@chromium.org at
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=404357#c34 . Please
see https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=404357 for
details. The appropriate package for this bug might be xserver-xorg-
video-ati but that's a guess.

Summary:
Using Google Chrome 36+ on an ubuntu 14.04 system with an AMD Radeon HD 6330M
graphics card has been regularly causing system hangs. These appear to be
particularly likely when playing Flash-based games such as those on Facebook.
Scroll up and down using the vertical scrollbar or the mousewheel and chrome
will segfault.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367825] [NEW] Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system

2014-09-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04

apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1.1

System: Shuttle XPC SZ77R5 with 32 GB of memory installed (x4 8GB matched kit
of sticks).
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Kernel: 3.13.0-35-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP

I am experiencng random lock-ups/crashes when using this system and the
i915 video driver is active. This results in a fully corrupted screen
and no ability to do anything. The only remedy is to restart the system
by holding down the power button. I have tried a number of different
ideas from different bug reports but they all seem to be different
regarding the i915 driver. The screen corruption can be seen in the
attached grab.

My last resort to see if it was this driver being responsible was to
remove it from the system and make use of the regular vesa drivers. I
have been using the vesa driver for a week now with no further crashes.

All memory sticks are confirmed as good. I have maxed out the memory
running 8 different virtual machines to prove to myself there wasn't a
bad stick of memory. Also memtest86+ does not show any faults.

This problem has been apparent from kernel 3.2.x right up to not with
3.13.x installed. At various points I did test with kernels from
Liquorix to see if the problem was resolved (or in the kernel at all).
The crashes have happened in Gnome and KDE with different window
managers which suggests it's related to xserver (driver).

The crashes can come at any time under any kind of load. Sometimes just
scrolling a window or entering some text. The only constant seems to be
that something on the screen has to change. If left alone with no
interaction the machine would run just fine. I have used it remotely
with X forwarding without problem.

This definitely seems to be an i915 issue, or something closely related to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2014-09-10 Thread Fabio
@Dragoneyes, are you sure that the problem came with version 7 and not
version 6? Can you check if version 6 still works for you? About using
older kernel I think that's because the nvidia dkms gets installed only
in the latest kernel and not in the older ones.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared

2014-09-10 Thread Thomas Carlisle
I just loaded Ubuntu 14.04LTS 64-bit on a Dell D630 with an integrated
Nvidia Quadro NVS 135m display adapter, removed nouveau completely and
installed 340.32 from the Nvidia site (not the edgers PPA), andthe
flicker was present. A common suggestion is to disable dithering in
nvidia-settings, which did not help. The workaround posted by Alexander
Pavel above resolved this. I previously was running an Ubuntu 14.04LTS
64-bit build using the latest properietary driver that is native to
Ubuntu 14.4 (331.something) and did not have this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1342605] Re: [MIR] libepoxy

2014-09-10 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I've tried running the tests, but it would require a real xorg-server
with opengl support. This would be massive overkill for the things these
tests cover.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2014-09-10 Thread Dragoneyes
I have the same problem. Updated yesterday from nvidia-common 0.2.91.6 to
0.2.91.7 and then restarted the computer. I see the loading logo of ubuntu,
then a black screen, with no possibility to run a shell. All freezed.
Assuming the problem may be the new kernel also installed 3.13.0-36.63 I tryed
the a previous version, but it filed again.
So I tryed the kernel 3.11.0-20 and finally I was able to login, but I have no
hardware acceleration (with the typical warning message). Apport also made a
crash report relative to xorg, but I'm no able to find the report in local or
in launchpad.
Any idea how to get that bug report? I think it could help.

2014-09-10 Thread Fabio
The .Xauthority and .xsession-errors have been created Saturday, that
means that probably they have been created before that the bug happened
or at the first occurrence of the bug. Now I try to remove .Xauthority
to check what happens.

The version that I'm using when reporting is 1:0.2.91.7 (trusty
