[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905686] Re: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.
I don't know if this is at all relevant, but I also got the error message: xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed after rebuilding and running an OPEN Windows (xview) application as a 32-bit executable on a CentoS 6.4 x86_64 architecture. There is apparently no native 64-bit xview - presumably because the data structures inherent in the package assume 4 bytes for address pointers, and too much trouble to re-engineer, hence the 32-bit build and the error here. The problem was resolved here by explicitly linking to the dynamic run time library: /usr/lib/libX11-xcb.so.1. The linker does not require the libX11-xcb.so.1 to be specified, but it clearly defaults to the 64-bit /usr/lib64/libX11-xcb.so.1 version. For users where they only have a 32 bit binary xview application, there is probably some Linux command to reset the default libX11-xcb.so.1 dynamic library path. Frankly I don't know much at all about the inner workings of Linux, but this post may be hepful to anyone else who is having similar problems. If irrelevant, please ignore. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/905686 Title: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
Hi Vincent, If I understand correctly your docking station performs the role of a dp mst hub (can you please confirm this with the documentation of your docking station or provide its model to verify this online?), so it should be a good setup to test. Ideally to make this working you would need 2 things: 1. Patched kernel (I am hoping the one from my ppa is sufficient) 2. MST-aware intel driver (available from the xorg-edgers repository). Can you please confirm that both conditions are satisfied in your test case? Hi Elvis, Looks like you have the perfect setup to test this case. Please make sure you have ppa-purge installed so you can revert the package updates if anything goes wrong. Please follow these steps: 1. sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst 2. sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa 3. sudo apt-get update Make sure that the output of: 4. apt-cache policy linux-image-3.16.0-19-generic states Candidate: 3.16.0-19.26~14.04hf71858v20141008b1 5. sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.16.0-19-generic 6. reboot to use the new kernel 7. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel 8. reboot to use the new intel driver Assuming that you are connected to Monitor #1 and it is daisy-chained to Monitor #2 you should see 2 monitors available in the Ubuntu display settings panel. I would appreciate your feedback. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
Hi Dariusz, I think I have this part: Manufacturer Part# : XX6F0 | Dell Part# : 331-6307 I am not sure if that is a DP hub, it is beyond my knowledge. I used your kernel and the xserver-xorg-video intel driver from URI was: http://ppa.launchpad.net/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.99.916+git20141016.6b98f162-0ubuntu0sarvatt~trusty_amd64.changelog How does the xorg-edgers repo provide a driver? I don't see it, while the repo is enabled. When I had a fully working situation the last time, I did not see any xserver-xorg-video-intel driver installed. Is it another driver or package you are referring to? I have an Intel Haswell based NUC connected over mini-displayport to the display containing the hub, then the second display is plugged in that one over DisplayPort. DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful logs I could find. My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2 on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display. UPDATE: Updated the bug report after it was pointed out that the original test hardware, a Lenovo x230 isn't DP 1.2 capable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
VIncent, according to [1] this hardware is displayport 1.2 compatible. Plus, the Display Port 1.2 adds the ability to daisy chain displays (4 displays via 1 connector). However, I have not been able to determine whether this works in such a way that it takes MST output from your laptop's displayport and distributes it via vga and dvi ports. Do you remember what feature have you been cherry picking to your patched kernel? Maybe you were using another feature. The perfect setup to test this feature is the one Elvishas - daisy chained Dell monitors. Regarding your question on the xorg-edgers driver: can you please try sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel Please provide the output of the last command. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.18 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314367] Re: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared
My 14.04 system also suffers from a variation of this problem. FWIW, I find that the flicker problem is tied to the PERFORMANCE LEVEL of my GTX 275. If I watch the GPU from the PowerMizer panel of the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, the flicker problem appears when the Performance Level drops to 0. At Performance Level 1 or 2, the problem disappears. By flicker problem, I mean that the screen erratically switches between a partially-updated display and a fully-updated display. All applications that don't sufficiently challenge the GPU, and cause the nVidia Performance Level to climb, suffer from this problem! However, if I run one of my high frame-rate OpenGL programs, the problem disappears, until I exit the application, and give the nVidia driver stack a chance to settle back down to Performance Level 0. BTW, none of the Compiz tweaks mentioned in this thread, or any other, has helped my situation, only the Performance Level matters. I'm now running nVidia Driver version 340.46, but the problem existed when I was running 331. My system is an old LGA 1366 Quad Core i7 with 12GB of memory, and a GTX 275. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314367 Title: Flickering with Ubuntu 14.04 and nvidia card reappeared To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1314367/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
