I've nominated both utopic and trusty series for better tracking.

Ben, according to your logs:
[ 11.322] Current Operating System: Linux dib 3.16.0-25-generic
 #33hf73386v20141106b1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 6 14:20:03 UTC 2014 x86_64

you have used the previous kernel again. Maybe you made your attempt
right before the packages were published in my ppa.

Looks like they are published now. Can you please make sure that you use
the 3.16.0-26.34hf73386v20141126b1 version?

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Ben Hearsum
Sorry about that. 3.16.0-26.34hf73386v20141126b1 is much improved. I'm
able to set modes on my external monitors now, but whether or not they
work is somewhat inconsistent. For example, right now my configuration
is like this: http://people.mozilla.org/~bhearsum/sattap/ae5e1315.png,
but the yellow vertical monitor has no picture. If I fiddle with
settings, move monitors, I get different results. The built in always
works, but one of the external monitors almost always doesn't. All 3
were active at one point, but in a very wrong configuration. There's
also some other weirdness like the rotation on the green monitor not
always matching what's shown in the display settings. I'll attach a log
from an attempt at configuring things as I'd like them.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Ben Hearsum
And here's X logs from around the same time:
[ 520.969] (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 3120x2751
[ 521.017] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1200@60.0 on DP1-1 using pipe
0, position (1920, 0), rotation left, reflection none
[ 521.420] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@60.0 on eDP1 using pipe 1,
position (0, 1671), rotation normal, reflection none
[ 522.460] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1200@60.0 on DP1-8 using pipe
2, position (0, 471), rotation normal, reflection none

Something else interesting that I just noticed is that while the 3rd monitor
has no image, it's there as far as X is concerned. Eg, I can mouse over to it,
I can move windows to it with my window manager's shortcuts.

One final thing: the display that is on is consistent. When I logged out
of my normal window manager (awesome) and switched to Unity, the yellow
monitor turned on and the green one turned off. Even after logging back

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Ben Hearsum
Apologies for the spam, but I just fixed it. Turns out my video adapter
was only set to 256MB. Changing it to 512MB in the BIOS has all three
monitors working consistently \o/.

Thanks so much Dariusz, it's great to have this set-up going finally!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
I'm glad it works for you Ben.

To everyone: if we want to get this to the Ubuntu kernel we need more
feedback from people testing this.

Please give the Utopic kernel (3.16.0-26.34hf73386v20141126b1) a try and
leave a comment here. This is a big feature and it would help us to have
it tested.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313155] Re: Screen stays blank after screen saver triggered

2014-11-26 Thread Sylvain Falardeau
On Ubuntu 14.10, compiz 1:0.9.12+14.10.20140918-0ubuntu1, I just tested
a couple of times to let the screen saver turn off the screen and I can
show the lock screen again.

The bug seems resolved in this version.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1396684] [NEW] synaptic driver hinders wake from sleep

2014-11-26 Thread Björn Carlsson
Public bug reported:

xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2: amd64, stops my
Dell Studio XPS 1645 (Late 2009) to wake up from sleep.

The screen stays black, but the computer starts, I can wake the screen
if I connect an external monitor. Of course I first thought the problem
was the graphics driver. But I got the same problem in Windows 8.1 when
I installed the latest Synaptics driver (which is not signed, perhaps
for this reason?).

And the problem disapeared when I uninstalled that driver.

So I tried the same in my Linux Mint 13 installation, downgraded
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5, and the problem was
history.

I was not able to report it using ubuntu-bug since it is not an official
LinuxMint package. So I'm not sure what to do. But I report it anyway,
so everyone else with this problem can find my workaround.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
Elvis, no, sorry, not yet. I was focusing on Utopic as it is the first
step to get it accepted to Ubuntu.

What worries me is that the current build for trusty 3.13 worked for
Wouter (comment #78) and does not work for you. That makes me wonder if
your configuration is even supported by this feature.

Have you been able to make it working on any kernel version? Do you have
possibility to give Utopic a try and confirm that your hardware should
be supported?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Elvis Morales Fernandez
Because of work I have no time to upgrade into 14.10 just because of the
kernel 3.16, I think in some point soon 3.16 should be available also
for 14.04 trough the standard repositories channel. 14.10 is kind of new
and I'm aware if will be buggy or not for my particular setup, in the
past I had to many bad experiences and time waste keeping my system
always in the last release, so I prefer only to upgrade and run the risk
of the new release install only when an LTS version comes out.

Anyhow I will make another tryout to this last build you made for kernel
3.16 on your ppa and see if now it works for me still under 14.04.

I'm also on the doubt if my system supports DP 1.2. But, for being a
DELL XPS 14 a modern laptop I'm 90% sure it should. I think I will be
asking to DELL support if they can provide me a confirmation about this
for my particular hardware.
