[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe

2015-01-29 Thread Paul Abrahams
Re #74 (Roland Meier): the message in #37 is Could no open output
pipe, which is somewhat different from the broken pipe message.
Interestingly, I've also seen the broken pipe message in an older 13.10
system, which brought up the graphical interface but froze after a
while.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe

2015-01-29 Thread Roland Meier
Paul (#69), for me the message occurrs in a freshly installed 14.10 system
(which boots fine after the message).
I think there may be multiple conditions for the error message (broken pipe),
some possibly related to the nvidia driver (according to the position in the
message log, see #37), others not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1415958] [NEW] Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-01-29 Thread Colin Law
Public bug reported:

Running up to date Vivid on laptop with external display, closing the
lid does not suspend even though suspend is selected in the power
settings for lid close. The display flashes and apps move to external
display. Syslog shows no attempt to suspend.

With no external display connected the laptop suspends as expected.

In the logs the lid was closed on Jan 29 15:04:00 and opened at 15:04:30
There are messages of the form
i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment
in syslog at that time but I suspect they may be a different issue.

Not sure whether xorg is the correct package for this, hopefully someone
will redirect if appropriate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400626] Re: Please backport xtrans, libdrm, x11proto-{fonts, core} packages for 14.04.2

2015-01-29 Thread John Gilbertson
The new xorg/mesa packages should, but don't, have a Provides: name-
of-package-being-replaced field in the Debian control file, to avoid
breaking other installed packages which depend on the older xorg/mesa
packages by name; for example, the lib-gl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic package's
control file should contain Provides: lib-gl1-mesa-glx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-29 Thread gnustavo
Timo, I think you misunderstood Celian's description. He isn't using 3rd
party drivers. He's using Ubuntu 14.10 native drivers just as almost
everybody else in here. He just pointed out that some foruns advised to
use Intel's drivers but those are older than the driver in Ubuntu 14.10.

I may be wrong, but please, read the description again to check it.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176043] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-removal-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2015-01-29 Thread test051102
I have recently upgraded my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS on my Lenovo
E525. The system was running perfectly on 12.04. Unfortunately, the were
several problems after upgrading. Google Earth did no longer work. I was
required to install the recent version. After that, Googe Earth did
crash with the infamous SIGSEGV. A flash application did crash under
reproducible conditions.

I have resolved all of these problems by installing the nouveau driver.
This resulted in a complete removal of the not working fglrx driver
which did cause this 2 year old bug. I think it's a shame for ATI/AMD
that these guys are still producing drivers which are far away from
beeing production ready.
