Teo, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.21). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Daniel Gußmann, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1331360] Re: Touchpad does not work correctlyafter suspend/resume
Eric Maeker, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1329741] Re: After the update for version 14.04 the PC is rare,
Pedro Ortiz, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and it does nothing, you may be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash Please follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash when you file this crash report so the necessary information is provided. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1330128] Re: Enabling 'radeon.dpm=1' kernel parameter makes Xorg full crash
Ḷḷumex03, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1330128 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1327644] Re: Return from suspend mode in 14.04 LTS does not display logon screen
Michael E. Slowinski, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please let us know your results. bi-abba, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1327112 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417651] Re: Lenovo W520: display for one screen stretched over both when docked
Rockwalrus, just to advise, you don't have to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. Despite this, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem to them following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Reporting_an_upstream_bug ? Please provide case number of your report once you have made it so that it may be tracked. Thank you for your understanding. ** Description changed: When using the proprietary Nvidia drivers 331.113, the output from one window is often stretched to cover both by Unity. One thing that I noticed is that the standard xrandr-based Displays panel in System Settings shows both outputs, but nvidia-settings shows only the external monitor. WORKAROUND: Use another window manager. WORKAROUND: In Unity, manually configure the display output locations and sizes in ccsm. + + WORKAROUND: Use nouveau. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1402551] Re: High memory usage of Xorg and kwin after Xorg security updates [nvidia]
** Also affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: upstream ** Description changed: Hello, since the Xorg/nvidia security updates last week, I encounter a problem with growing Xorg and kwin memory usage. In one hour the memory consumption is at Xorg ~ 270 MiB and at kwin: 300 MB , so the system responds slowly and scrolling is very slow in in dolphin, kwrite, firefox, etc. After several hours the system is so slow, that only a restart helps, and then the growing of memory starts again. *** My Tests; I tried several nvidia drivers, but without success (from: https://launchpad.net/~xorg- edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+index?field.series_filter=precise) 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.1~xedgers12.04.1 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.1~xedgers12.04.1 346.22-0ubuntu1~xedgers12.04.1 (With purging each nvidia driver and fresh installing it) *** My configuration; Two Kubuntu 12.04.5 PCs with a nvidia card; nvidia driver 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.0.3 and 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.0.1 One pc with the Trusty Xstack (HWE) with Trusty kernel (3.13.0-43.72~precise1) and the other one with the stock kernel (3.2.0-74-generic #109) and stock xstack. I use one pc in my office, so it disturbs my work because of the slowness and restarts. + + Nvidia Forum Post: + + https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/797547/linux/memory-leak-in- + kwin-and-xorg-after-xorg-security-updates/ + + Thank you for your help!
