[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389512] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kurt stoller, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://www.msi.com/support/mb/K9N2GMFD.html#down-bios an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.8). If
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = Low

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389215] Re: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg because of Nvidia proprietary driver.

2015-02-25 Thread Hans Deragon
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected possible-manual-nvidia-install

** Description changed:

Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg. When pressing the
keys fnhome and fnend on my Lenovo W510, I see the indicator on
the screen showing the level of brightness changing, so key mapping is
not the problem. However, the brightness is not changing.

On the kernel level, I have the single following device:

  # cd /sys/class/backlight
  # ls -l
  total 0
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Nov 3 17:16 acpi_video0 -
../../devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0

When playing with the fnhome and fnend, the value of
  /sys/class/backlight/brightness changes accordingly. The screen
  brightness does not change.

  Performing:

  # echo 10 brightness

...does not have any effect (regardless of the value provided, 10 being
  just an example).

  WORKAROUND

There is an odd workaround. Simply go to the console using
CTRLALTF1 and using the fnhome and fnend keys, brightness
then changes. Return to Unity / Xorg with CTRLALTF7 and the
  selected brightness persists.

  NON WORKING WORKAROUND

On the web, I read that adding:

  Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1'

in xorg.conf might fix the problem. I do not have an xorg and when I
let the proprietary Nvidia driver generate one and add this option, X
  does not start anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1425596] [NEW] fglrx 2:8.970-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2015-02-25 Thread Pascal Leclerc
Public bug reported:

I am a french newbie on Ubuntu/Linux. I'm trying to install my ATI graphics
card driver amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
My release is : 14.04 (Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS)
My system works properly.

Reading a french tutorial on http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/catalyst , I typed
  sudo sh ./amd-driver-installer-* --buildpkg
  sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Some errors appeared, telling me something would be done on next reboot (sorry
I don't remember what).
Then I was warnes about dependencies problems.
I rebooted.
The tutorial says that in case of dependencies problems, I must type :
  sudo apt-get -f install
I obtained (containing french and english) :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1339778] Re: Plugging in Logitech H340 USB headset breaks mouse click behaviour

2015-02-25 Thread Michael JasonSmith
Sorry, I am not going to take a few hours out of my workday to test this
issue, especially when coupled with the chance of bricking my machine
with a live dev-release of the OS.

However, on a brighter note, the issue seems resolved for me with Ubuntu
14.04.2 using the 3.13.0-45-generic kernel. I discovered that the
headset worked normally sometime this month. I am unsure when.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388412] Re: Not all the screen displays

2015-02-25 Thread Ayeshah
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Hello,

I recently upgraded to Trusty Tahr 14.04 and feel I may have a slight
issue with the screen size. Such an example would be like dialogue
boxes or messages from certain softwares or programs don't completely
  display.

It would be nice to use System Testing to maybe work out how to deal
with the screen size but I'm unable to proceed past the start page -
where it requires you to press continue, but I'm guessing the button is
at the far bottom of the dialogue box which I cannot press and there's
no way to scroll or tab to the button.

Any answers or help is much appreciated!

I'm hoping I've reported this minor issue to the right place.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1409222] Re: kubuntu live desktop iso xorg crashes upon launching installer

2015-02-25 Thread gregrwm
ok, downloaded vivid-desktop-i386.iso dated 2015-02-24 Tue 11:04:11, and
booted it. it is different. the installer launches fine, xorg stays
alive. but icons and buttons are all black, and when hovering over the
taskbar the window previews that popup contain graphical nonsense. in a
terminal i installed xdiagnose and python-apport. the installations
completed successfully. i then launched apport-collect -p xorg
1409222. the output is:

ERROR: Could not import module, is a package upgrade in progress?
Error: No module named PyQt4.QtCore

the installer was still up, waiting for me to answer the dialog: The
installer has detected that the following disks have mounted
partitions:. after exiting the installer, the same apport-collect
command still gets the same error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1383690] Re: Brightness and lock [fn] hotkeys don't work until first suspend

2015-02-25 Thread Franko Burolo
Thank you for your answer!
However, I must say I don't feel comfortable with flashing BIOS right now,
because I don't really know how to do it, and I am in a mission critical
situation ATM, so I would rather not risk ending up with an unbootable laptop.
I do understand, after your response, that a BIOS upgrade could fix this, but I
would rather postpone it for after I am done with my critical tasks at hand.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1369103] Re: brightness keys don't work after resume from hibernate

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Denis Prost, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Description changed:

- This is an hibernate specific problem. After resume from suspend to ram,
brightness keys do work.
- So I guess this is a different problem than issue
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/935778.
- (I tried the different solutions described in this bug comments, such as
modifying /etc/default/grub default command line, adding a script in
/etc/pm/sleep.d, creating a special xorg.conf file, none worked).
- My computer is a Toshiba Tecra A10-11T laptop.
+ This is an hibernate specific problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1368329] Re: After soft reboots, sometimes screen is blank

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Robert Wall, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1368329

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1368720] Re: I am having problems when booting for keyboard and mouse to be detected Also my screen is resolving to wide.

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mark Simon, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DP45SG
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(0125). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1291106] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel-py

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
José Luis Quevedo, thank you for taking the time to report this and
helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug
because your description didn't include enough information. You may find
it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1369222] Re: xorg random crash

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
teo1978, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However,
your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport
report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-02-25 Thread jerrylamos
Comment #7, where is the update history found?
Likely hundreds of updates in December.
This install is a couple days old, still has the problem.
What packages are involved in Set Wallpaper?
Any way to put Set Wallpaper back to early December? All my vivid iso's are
now in February.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389215] Re: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg because of Nvidia proprietary driver.

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Tags added: needs-vivid-test

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = Low

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete

** Description changed:

Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg. When pressing the
keys fnhome and fnend on my Lenovo W510, I see the indicator on
the screen showing the level of brightness changing, so key mapping is
not the problem. However, the brightness is not changing.

On the kernel level, I have the single following device:

  # cd /sys/class/backlight
  # ls -l
  total 0
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Nov 3 17:16 acpi_video0 -
../../devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0

When playing with the fnhome and fnend, the value of
  /sys/class/backlight/brightness changes accordingly. The screen
  brightness does not change.

  Performing:

  # echo 10 brightness

...does not have any effect (regardless of the value provided, 10 being
  just an example).

  WORKAROUND

There is an odd workaround. Simply go to the console using
CTRLALTF1 and using the fnhome and fnend keys, brightness
then changes. Return to Unity / Xorg with CTRLALTF7 and the
  selected brightness persists.

  NON WORKING WORKAROUND

On the web, I read that adding:

  Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1'

in xorg.conf might fix the problem. I do not have an xorg and when I
let the proprietary Nvidia driver generate one and add this option, X
  does not start anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1403228] Re: unable to connect external monitor

2015-02-25 Thread Arlen
I did what you said penalvch and booted from USB
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/vivid-desktop-amd64.iso, as
the bug previously was also present when booting from USB.

The bug does not exist in that ISO.

However in earlier versions I fixed it by making a custom display
configuration upon booting; so there seemed to be an indecision loop
when connecting the monitors without any previous configurations, in
14.04.

This bug does not exists in Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Daily Build

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388412] Re: Not all the screen displays

2015-02-25 Thread Ayeshah
Hello Christopher,

Apologies for the delay in response, I have yet to use my system at the
moment.

However, I do still experience the problem. It can be a pain when
trying to scroll down and click the arrows because they are not always
visible and the windows don't fit my screen size.

I would try and do the Ubuntu official steps through the software
program but like I said the box to click next is not visible. When I'm
in my system I'll run the command you've told me and post the results.

Thank you for your response.

This is... nightmarish. @nukedathlonman, why don't you state clearly
which package needs to be compiled and what needs to be modified in
debian/control?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388557] Re: Ubuntu freezes randomly

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Henri Seppänen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX32VD/HelpDesk_Download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (214).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388647] Re: DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10

2015-02-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dominic Chambers, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1388647

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
