[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389512] Re: Xorg freeze
kurt stoller, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.msi.com/support/mb/K9N2GMFD.html#down-bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.8). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389512 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1389512/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1389215] Re: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg because of Nvidia proprietary driver.
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected possible-manual-nvidia-install ** Description changed: Brightness controls are not working in Unity / Xorg. When pressing the keys fnhome and fnend on my Lenovo W510, I see the indicator on the screen showing the level of brightness changing, so key mapping is not the problem. However, the brightness is not changing. On the kernel level, I have the single following device: # cd /sys/class/backlight # ls -l total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Nov 3 17:16 acpi_video0 - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/:01:00.0/backlight/acpi_video0 When playing with the fnhome and fnend, the value of /sys/class/backlight/brightness changes accordingly. The screen brightness does not change. Performing: # echo 10 brightness ...does not have any effect (regardless of the value provided, 10 being just an example). WORKAROUND There is an odd workaround. Simply go to the console using CTRLALTF1 and using the fnhome and fnend keys, brightness then changes. Return to Unity / Xorg with CTRLALTF7 and the selected brightness persists. NON WORKING WORKAROUND On the web, I read that adding: Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1' in xorg.conf might fix the problem. I do not have an xorg and when I let the proprietary Nvidia driver generate one and add this option, X does not start anymore. Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS with latest updates as of this writing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1339778] Re: Plugging in Logitech H340 USB headset breaks mouse click behaviour
Sorry, I am not going to take a few hours out of my workday to test this issue, especially when coupled with the chance of bricking my machine with a live dev-release of the OS. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388412] Re: Not all the screen displays
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Hello, I recently upgraded to Trusty Tahr 14.04 and feel I may have a slight issue with the screen size. Such an example would be like dialogue boxes or messages from certain softwares or programs don't completely display. It would be nice to use System Testing to maybe work out how to deal with the screen size but I'm unable to proceed past the start page - where it requires you to press continue, but I'm guessing the button is at the far bottom of the dialogue box which I cannot press and there's no way to scroll or tab to the button. Any answers or help is much appreciated! I'm hoping I've reported this minor issue to the right place. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1409222] Re: kubuntu live desktop iso xorg crashes upon launching installer
ok, downloaded vivid-desktop-i386.iso dated 2015-02-24 Tue 11:04:11, and booted it. it is different. the installer launches fine, xorg stays alive. but icons and buttons are all black, and when hovering over the taskbar the window previews that popup contain graphical nonsense. in a terminal i installed xdiagnose and python-apport. the installations completed successfully. i then launched apport-collect -p xorg 1409222. the output is: ERROR: Could not import module, is a package upgrade in progress? Error: No module named PyQt4.QtCore the installer was still up, waiting for me to answer the dialog: The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions:. after exiting the installer, the same apport-collect command still gets the same error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409222 Title: kubuntu live desktop iso xorg crashes upon launching installer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409222/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1369103] Re: brightness keys don't work after resume from hibernate
Denis Prost, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1368329] Re: After soft reboots, sometimes screen is blank
Robert Wall, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1368329 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. José Luis Quevedo, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1369222] Re: xorg random crash
teo1978, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1403228] Re: unable to connect external monitor
I did what you said penalvch and booted from USB http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/vivid-desktop-amd64.iso, as the bug previously was also present when booting from USB. The bug does not exist in that ISO. However in earlier versions I fixed it by making a custom display configuration upon booting; so there seemed to be an indecision loop when connecting the monitors without any previous configurations, in 14.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388557] Re: Ubuntu freezes randomly
Henri Seppänen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX32VD/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (214). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388647] Re: DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10
Dominic Chambers, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1388647 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding.
