[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5
Thanks very much for working on this. The package from trusty-proposed installed, but it put me into a login loop. I would type in my password or select the Guest option, the screen would go black for a second, then it would kick me right back out to the password prompt. I uninstalled the fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle packages, and that resolved the login loop. Has anyone seen this happen? If you could suggest any troubleshooting I could do to get the driver to stop crashing, it would be great. themusicgod1, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448412] Re: A crash report is generated after a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop resumes from suspend
Matt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. Upgrade to 14.04 LTS completely kills the graphics also. I wonder if all these problems reported don't have something to do with the kernel version as well. I've attached the log generated by the graphics system when it won't start. in the case of the upgrade from 3.8.0-44 to 3.8.0-51. I hope this means something to the experts. ** Attachment added: failsafeX-backup-150502103827.tar https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates/+bug/1365695/+attachment/4389611/+files/failsafeX-backup-150502103827.tar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1365695 Title: No longer able to use GUI after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates/+bug/1365695/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

John Rose, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4505#bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (FB). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1447938] Re: Mouse and keyboard not always loaded correctly
simone, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. leex, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Sorry, I was unable to use Apport because when using it in a general and non-specific way I encounter this bug which I reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1450558 But luckily when using it the way I had to here, it worked. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450565 Title: Purple hanging screen on startup and black screen when awakening from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1450565/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450565] Re: Purple hanging screen on startup and black screen when awakening from suspend
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu vivid ** Description changed: I am finding that after upgrading from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04 that when my machine starts up and I get to the login screen that the entire screen just suddenly goes purple, although I can see and move the mouse. And when awaking my machine from suspend that I get the same, except it is a black screen, and unlike with the purple screen, does not flash the login screen before becoming the solid colour. I first noticed the purple screen today (and have had 15.04 for 4 days now), but since I upgraded I have been having the black screen when awaking from suspend, sometimes I worry that the black screen will just never go away, because each time it stays there slightly longer, probably the first time was about 5 seconds, now maybe 15, I dread to think what it will get to, and I suspect that I will be seeing more of the purple screen too now that it has showed its face. --- OS Information: Description: Ubuntu 15.04 Release: 15.04 Package Information: xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 Candidate: 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status + --- + .tmp.unity.support.test.0: + + ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + CompositorRunning: compiz + CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' + CompositorUnredirectFSW: true + CurrentDesktop: Unity + DistUpgraded: 2015-04-25 22:47:31,871 DEBUG enabling apt cron job + DistroCodename: vivid + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0116] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:5002] + InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-04-25 (7 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn - Release amd64 (20141022.1) + MachineType: LENOVO 62742SG + Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-15-generic root=UUID=b2f59f26-880b-4508-a58e-e3e34aecd020 ro + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-15.15-generic 3.19.3 + Tags: vivid ubuntu compiz-0.9 + Uname: Linux 3.19.0-15-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to vivid on 2015-04-25 (6 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 11/15/2012 + dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.bios.version: H5ET69WW (1.12 ) + dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available + dmi.board.name: 62742SG + dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.board.version: Win8 Pro DPK IPG + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.chassis.version: Not Available + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrH5ET69WW(1.12):bd11/15/2012:svnLENOVO:pn62742SG:pvrLenovoB590:rvnLENOVO:rn62742SG:rvrWin8ProDPKIPG:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: + dmi.product.name: 62742SG + dmi.product.version: Lenovo B590 + dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO + version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.1+15.04.20150410.1-0ubuntu1 + version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A + version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.60-2 + version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.5.2-0ubuntu1 + version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A + version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.5.2-0ubuntu1 + version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu3 + version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 + version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0-1ubuntu2 + version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917-1~exp1ubuntu2build1 + version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1 + xserver.bootTime: Sat May 2 21:41:41 2015 + xserver.configfile: default + xserver.errors: + + xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log + xserver.outputs: + product id 827 + vendor LGD + xserver.version: 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu3 ** Attachment added: BootLog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450565/+attachment/4389712/+files/BootLog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450565 Title: Purple hanging screen on startup and black screen when awakening from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1450565/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1451117] [NEW] ubuntu 15.04 CPU has one core constantly over 80% usage
Public bug reported: Trying or installing ubuntu 15.04 on MacbookPro 11,2 maintains the first core (out of eight cores) at over 80% its usage even when there are no running applications. This constant CPU usage contributes to heating my laptop. To reproduce, try or install Ubuntu 15.04 on MacbookPro 11,2, and either open the System Monitor application or run `top` from Terminal. I will examine if this issue also affects my office desktop computer. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Screenshot from 2015-05-03 12:58:59.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451117/+attachment/4389782/+files/Screenshot%20from%202015-05-03%2012%3A58%3A59.png ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) = ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451117 Title: ubuntu 15.04 CPU has one core constantly over 80% usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1451117/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
