[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315006] Re: Installing fglrx makes the system unbootable, even in failsafeX

2015-05-02 Thread Martin Steghöfer
Do you use any encrypted disks that require you to provide a password
during boot? It seems that after installing fglrx their password prompt
never makes it to the screen, causing them to wait forever for a
password and thus blocking the further boot sequence.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-05-02 Thread Dmitry
Thanks very much for working on this.
The package from trusty-proposed installed, but it put me into a login loop. I
would type in my password or select the Guest option, the screen would go
black for a second, then it would kick me right back out to the password prompt.
I uninstalled the fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle packages, and that resolved the
login loop.
Has anyone seen this happen? If you could suggest any troubleshooting I could
do to get the driver to stop crashing, it would be great. My Ubuntu
installation is pretty new, but I've spent some time setting everything up
already, and would prefer not to reinstall the OS.

Thanks for the workaround. Just an additional note about it: In 15.04
(vivid) this only works when booting using upstart (not with the new
default systemd). Besides, the lines load_video and gfxmode have
to be removed from grub.cfg (or the script 10_linux that generates

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448116] Re: Pointer missing on login

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
themusicgod1, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448412] Re: A crash report is generated after a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop resumes from suspend

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Matt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However,
your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport
report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kaanpakpum Kamonrotchai, thank you for taking the time to report this
and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't
include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to
report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-05-02 Thread QIII
Dmitry --

Unfortunately, your GPU is no longer supported by AMD with a driver that
will work with the current version of X server. There is nothing anyone
at Canonical or any other Linux distributor can do. That is really not
related to this particular bug. Since you have already removed the
fglrx driver, you can keep using the open source driver.

2015-05-02 Thread Nick Mann
Could you guys fix this already? Using an excuse that it's not broken in
15.04 is total BS. 14.04.2 is supposed to be a LONG TERM SUPPORT version
and one of the most important parts of a desktop system has been unable
to be installed for like 2-3 months now. This is pathetic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2015-05-02 Thread Paul Nielsen
After update of 12.04 LTS from kernel 3.8.0-44-generic to kernel
3.8.0-51-generic the video no longer works on my Dell M65 with nvidia
graphics card. Upgrade to 14.04 LTS completely kills the graphics also.

I wonder if all these problems reported don't have something to do with
the kernel version as well. I've attached the log generated by the
graphics system when it won't start. in the case of the upgrade from
3.8.0-44 to 3.8.0-51. I hope this means something to the experts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1447938] Re: Mouse and keyboard not always loaded correctly

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
simone, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450712] Re: its lots of little things that keep going wrong

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Miss Wendy, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.21). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-02 Thread Morten Hundevad
Not sure how to recreate it. I am using default system.

I have not installed many extra things other than few php and android
developing tools and play on linux and steam and things of that nature.

compizconfig - general - display settings - Register output

by default this is checked (detect_outputs)

if i check this then the error happens where monitor 1 and two over
lap. and appear as one.

I have to manually configure outputs

tested 346 same thing

after then trying 304 my second monitor no totaly stopped working.

 having just one cursor displayed.
     2) Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to tty1 console.
     3) Observe that you have two cursors on the black screen: the square one
is probably from gpm and responds to mouse movements, while the arrow one is
as in X, is centered, and it does not move with the mouse. The screen foto is
 attached.

Expected: exactly one cursor under X, exactly one cursor on each

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450565] Re: Purple hanging screen on startup and black screen when awakening from suspend

2015-05-02 Thread The Unknown
Sorry, I was unable to use Apport because when using it in a general and
non-specific way I encounter this bug which I reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1450558

But luckily when using it the way I had to here, it worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1450565] Re: Purple hanging screen on startup and black screen when awakening from suspend

2015-05-02 Thread The Unknown
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu vivid

** Description changed:

I am finding that after upgrading from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04 that
when my machine starts up and I get to the login screen that the entire
screen just suddenly goes purple, although I can see and move the mouse.
And when awaking my machine from suspend that I get the same, except it
is a black screen, and unlike with the purple screen, does not flash the
login screen before becoming the solid colour. I first noticed the
purple screen today (and have had 15.04 for 4 days now), but since I
upgraded I have been having the black screen when awaking from suspend,
sometimes I worry that the black screen will just never go away, because
each time it stays there slightly longer, probably the first time was
about 5 seconds, now maybe 15, I dread to think what it will get to, and
I suspect that I will be seeing more of the purple screen too now that
  it has showed its face.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448116] Re: Pointer missing on login

2015-05-02 Thread themusicgod1
Because it was an intermittent problem it's unclear that I could tag one
way or another whether it's fixed. I have began with 4.1.0-040100rc1 --
I cannot reproduce so far, I will continue down the list, though to see
if I can reproduce with one of the earlier kernels, too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1451117] [NEW] ubuntu 15.04 CPU has one core constantly over 80% usage

2015-05-02 Thread Juan Rada-Vilela
Public bug reported:

Trying or installing ubuntu 15.04 on MacbookPro 11,2 maintains the first
core (out of eight cores) at over 80% its usage even when there are no
running applications. This constant CPU usage contributes to heating my
laptop.

To reproduce, try or install Ubuntu 15.04 on MacbookPro 11,2, and either
open the System Monitor application or run `top` from Terminal.

I will examine if this issue also affects my office desktop computer.
