[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1464365] Re: Resolution is incorrect; screen mostly occluded

2015-09-12 Thread Barry Warsaw
A few more data points.

I booted stable Vivid, then dist-upgraded to Wily. When I open the
Displays setting, the highest resolution I'm offered is 16:9 at
2560x1440. There's no option to go to 3440x1440, which is the native
resolution of this monitor.

Debian unstable seems to have no problems displaying at the native
resolution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-12 Thread Venetin Konstantinov
Comment #37: Yes, there is only one display port and one vga port. Since
the only display port to vga adapter that I found localy available costs
around 15 euros i decided to buy a new video adapter instead. I bought
the cheapest low profile Nvidia g210 based video adapter and solved the
issue for me. As I said before the bug is most likely not to be solved
soon. Only three people are "affected". Maybe the bug is specific to our
M58P only and not all the users of this PC are running Ubuntu with Unity
or gnome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2015-09-12 Thread dino99
The binary drivers should get more frequent updates as some users
want/need a recent kernel for some reason. So most reports are due to
the lack of support for the kernels installed from outside the related
ubuntu release (backport, vanilla, custom compile, ...)

It sould be usefull that all these similar reports not being declared as
'duplicate' when they are related to a different ubuntu release.
That way each nvidia driver version should have there own 'duplicate'

The binary drivers really needs to be less restrictive about the
dependencies version and kernel support (could limit to 2, 3 kernel
family, instead of the real version, like 3.15 for example)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338492] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2015-09-12 Thread Luca Ciavatta
On my Ubuntu 15.04 over a MacBook Pro 8.2, this error appears trying to make
Radeon GPU working. This machine, actually, works only with Intel graphics and
with the Radeon disable by this trick in the grub:
 outb 0x728 1
 outb 0x710 2
 outb 0x740 2
outb 0x750 0 #this disable discrete Radeon gpu graphics

Unable to work with Radeon only or with Hybrid graphics. Also with
nomodeset the system boot into a black screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1481129] Re: System freeze when using Libre Office

2015-09-12 Thread Witold Szczeponik
The bug is not only triggered by LibreOffice: I managed to crash my
machine simply by putting load on it ("git gc --aggresive") and trying
to change Nautilus' preferences.

It seems as if upstream kernel commit

needs to by back-ported in order to fix this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-12 Thread jerrylamos
Comment #36, this is a desk top so the display is hooked to the VGA
port. I think there's only one display port on this Lenovo M58p.

Interesting, boot with Wily kernel,
Background Wallpaper hashed
Settings Appearance Wallpapers thumbnails hashed
Files Pictures displays same jpg fine
command line Gsettings fails screen all brown does not display the desired jpg
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

Reboot with Utopic kernel
Background Wallpaper still hashed
Settings Appearance Wallpapers thumbnails fine
Wallpaper displays just like Files Pictures
gsettings still fails: brown screen instead of the desired jpg
with Utopic kernel,
Settings Appearance Wallpaper works fine.

How come with Wily kernel Files Pictures jpg's display fine but Settings
Appearance Wallpapers is hashed?

What's the difference in the code to display with Files vs. Settings Appearance?
Even in Settings Appearance, the little monitor picture is O.K. but the
thumbnails are all hashed?

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738526]

Allow font library to return Suspended more than once per request

fonts: Continue when font calls return Suspended more than once

Patch 3ab6cd31cbdf8095b2948034fce5fb645422d8da fixed Xinerama
interactions with font servers by not putting clients to sleep
multiple times. However, it introduced additional changes dealing with
libXfont routine returning Suspended more than once for the same
request. This additional change was to abandon processing of the
current request and free the closure data by jumping to
'xinerama_sleep' in each of the functions.

Font library functions shouldn't return Suspended more than once,
except for ListFontsWithInfo, which produces multiple replies, and
thus ends up returning Suspended many times during processing.

With the jump to xinerama_sleep occurring after the first reply was
processed, the closure for the request was freed and future calls into
the ListFontsWithInfo callback resulted in dereferencing freed
memory.

This patch removes the added branches, reverting the code to its
previous behaviour, which permitted multiple Suspended returns and
simply waited for the client to be signaled again so that the callback
could continue processing the request.

I am curious did someone test how the things are whit the display port,
not the d-sub output? Is there any picture at all on the display port?
