[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448939] Re: tint2 taskbar boots irregularly with xserver-xorg-video-ati, boots fine with proprietary driver
Regarding 3, I tried to fix this problem in the latest version (I'm the current dev of tint2). However there is no package available for 14.04, nor a PPA, so if you would like to try it out the only way is to compile from source. Normally I don't recommend this unless you know what you are doing, as it is sometimes difficult to remove from the system software installed from source and there are other things that can go wrong. In the case of tint2 it should not be so complicated. If you want to do it, here is a page with instructions: https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2/wikis/Install#install-from-source You will have to configure tint2 in your startup applications to run from the new path (/usr/local/bin/tint2) and remove the sleep then relog. If it has problems please let me know. If you don't want to try this it's perfectly fine. I am just curious if this solves the problem in your case, which is a bit strange -- normally tint2 should just draw itself without transparency if the compositor is not detected correctly at startup; it should not dissapear completely. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448939 Title: tint2 taskbar boots irregularly with xserver-xorg-video-ati, boots fine with proprietary driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1448939/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501276] [NEW] No Screen or Blank Screen instead of Login Screen
Public bug reported: Release 15.10 Wily Beta 2. GPU R9 290. Hawaii Core. When switching to fglrx from radeon, I get no graphics. Scenario 1: Use the "Additional Drivers" push-button to change to fglrx ; do not create xorg.conf. Result: On reboot, both the Displayport and DVI screens turn off ( disconnect ), and the keyboard becomes unresponsive ( caps lock and other toggles stop working ). Cannot switch to other VTs, but can use the Alt-PrtScrn(RSEINUB) safe reboot method. Scenario 2: Use the "Additional Drivers" push-button to change to fglrx ; use amdconfig --initial to create xorg.conf. Result: On reboot, both the Displayport and DVI screens remain active but blank, and the keyboard becomes unresponsive ( caps lock and other toggles stop working ). Cannot switch to other VTs, but can use the Alt- PrtScrn(RSEINUB) safe reboot method. I originally had this behaviour when I tried to build Catalyst 15.9 ( which I think you are using in wily) from the AMD website against Ubuntu 15.04. I assumed there was a problem with Kernel DRM components, so I tried it in the wily beta in case the new kernel solver the issue, but have exactly the same result. This version of Wily beta 2 is installed from the DVD ISO, not upgraded from 15.04 ( although I did use the option to retain existing personal files ). I doubt this is an Ubuntu-resolvable issue, but if it is an AMD issue you are more likely to get them to fix it than individual users. Sebastian Rohde, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.28). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1479627] Re: X boots to black screen with cursor
Aaron Staley, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops- and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t440p an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.34). Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-2.34 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1479627 Title: X boots to black screen with cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1479627/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Riyaz, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all- in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/thinkcentre-m58p an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (5CKT77A). Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/701772 Title: Samsung SyncMaster B2030 Monitors native resolution is not detected by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/701772/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501346] Re: Gimp fails to start w/ Xmir running in '-rootless -flatten' mode under Unity 8
That's odd. I've been testing gimp a lot. Although testing on wily. And it works fine. Still, -flatten mode should be considered just a workaround. The real solution involves fixing bug 1497085 instead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501346 Title: Gimp fails to start w/ Xmir running in '-rootless -flatten' mode under Unity 8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1501346/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1497621] Re: Unity display corrupted on login or switch user
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu ** Description changed: I have a new install of 15.04. I am using lightdm with a unity desktop (default). I have two users on my system. Often when I log in or switch user unity or lightdm (I don't know enough to understand which one) will freeze on a corrupted display. The launcher icons and the launcher will be overwritten with some pseudo-random pattern. the bar across the top of the display will also be corrupted. Sometimes the display has both my desktop and the unity-login greeter mixed. I usually can't type or do alt-f2 for several seconds. At some point (usually several seconds later) the display will appear to "reset," sometimes once, sometimes several times and eventually will settle on an uncorrupted, usable screen. If I switch user 10 times this will happen on 8 of them. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1499245] Re: Xmir has its own modified copy of libdri2
This is because the DRI2 code in hw/xfree86/dri2 is no sufficiently generic to be shared. Drivers rely on the symbols in the DRI2 code to work, so splitting it out would require us to keep odd symbols around and have to be very careful not to break anything. I discussed this in XDC 2015 and people agreed it wasn't really suitable to be split out. Hopefully we can switch to DRI3 at some point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1499245 Title: Xmir has its own modified copy of libdri2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1499245/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
