[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531029] Re: Random Xorg crash while using Chrome

2016-01-27 Thread devbie
I cannot trigger the crash (it happens randomly)

As per your instructions, running:

sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

shows the attached pop up window and I get the following message on the
terminal:

'Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is
discouraged.'

Nothing is actually saved to /var/crash

Since I originally reported the crash, Chrome has been updated to
48.0.2564.82 (64-bit) but Xorg is still 1:7.7+7ubuntu4. I don't think I
have had any more crashes since then (but I haven't been using
Ubuntu/Chrome as much)

I originally had the following files in /var/crash:

-rw-r- 1 devbie whoopsie 1712230 Jan 17 15:17
_opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash
-rw-r- 1 devbie whoopsie 613910 Jan 22 22:28
_usr_bin_atril-thumbnailer.1000.crash
-rw-rw-r-- 1 devbie whoopsie 0 Jan 22 22:28
_usr_bin_atril-thumbnailer.1000.upload
-rw--- 1 whoopsie whoopsie 0 Jan 22 22:28
_usr_bin_atril-thumbnailer.1000.uploaded
-rw-r- 1 devbie whoopsie 7143430 Jan 22 23:38
_usr_bin_mate-panel.1000.crash
-rw-r- 1 root whoopsie 4204066 Jan 18 22:17 _usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash
-rw-r--r-- 1 root whoopsie 0 Jan 18 22:17 _usr_bin_Xorg.0.upload
-rw--- 1 whoopsie whoopsie 0 Jan 18 22:17 _usr_bin_Xorg.0.uploaded

Presumably they relate to the bug and I have saved them for the time
being. Would they be useful & should I upload them (how would I do
this)?

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531029] Re: Random Xorg crash while using Chrome

2016-01-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
devbie, to advise, _my_crash_report is a placeholder for the actual file
name found in the folder.

It's not to be used as the filename itself.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531029] Re: Random Xorg crash while using Chrome

2016-01-27 Thread devbie
> devbie, to advise, _my_crash_report is a placeholder for the actual

I understand.

I have followed your instructions which include deleting the contents of
/var/crash before reproducing the crash, then calling

sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

but there are of course no files there as I haven't been able to trigger
the bug.

2 questions:

1) Given I cannot trigger the bug in a reproducible way - it happens
'randomly' - shall I use the files that were originally in /var/crash
before I followed your instructions (see my previous posting with the
list of those files). Something along the lines of:

sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash

2) Do I tag the crash reports with 'Bug 1531029' ? If so, how?

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1538700] [NEW] Possibly related to frequent freeze-ups during high GPU usage; possibly independent. The error reporter appeared after a forced reboot.

2016-01-27 Thread James
Public bug reported:

I have had frequent problems with graphics drivers in general and fglrx
in particular. Lately, the system freezes (beyond even the mystic
powers of the SysRq) after random lengths of time spent playing any
graphics-heavy game (straight video seems to be alright, and sites like
google maps). I can't say for sure that this report is related; it
appeared after I was forced to do a hard reboot. But it's the first
hard evidence the machine has barfed up this week, as I've inexpertly
trawled the logs, so this report is a bit of a hail mary.

working in the full install.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1436590] Re: Intel Display i915 driver crashes, Thinkpad X1 carbon Gen 3

2016-01-27 Thread Guy Taylor
Hi,

If this is the same issue that
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85583 fixed (commit
ac88cd738425e04dbed3706621cf613a00708834) then
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.1.4 suggests it
should be in the upstream 4.1.4 kernel. However I got this same issue
(or same stack trace) on Ubuntu wily "4.2.0-25-generic #30-Ubuntu". This
maps to mainline kernel version 4.2.6 (via
http://people.canonical.com/~kernel/info/kernel-version-map.html)
suggesting the commit did not get the the Ubuntu kernel or there is
another issue.

Is there a way to check that ac88cd738425e04dbed3706621cf613a00708834
got the the Ubuntu kernel? Would you like me to open a new bug?

I am currently testing http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v4.5-rc1-wily/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1538823] [NEW] Menu bar menu options are small and do not reflect system font changes

2016-01-27 Thread Tony
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10

The individual menu bar menu options are very small. I am not talking
about the menu bar title or the menu names e.g. "File" "Edit" etc., I'm
talking about the individual options within each menu. I expect the
text of the menu items to be the same as other UI text, e.g. the Ubuntu
Default font.

Also, I would expect the size of the menu options text to change with
the setting System Settings > Universal Access > Large Text but it does
not.

See attached image for two screen shots, one with Large Text disabled
and one with it enabled. The text "Contents", "Universal Access", and
"Quit" is the text that I expect to be bigger, and that I expect to get
larger when enabling the Large Text setting.

Further, the size of the menu item text is not affected by any of the
font settings exposed by the app "ubuntu-tweak" which lets you change
the default font, etc.

This problem exists whether the menu bar is pinned to the top of the
screen, or to the title bar of the individual application windows.

I think this is a bug in xorg, but I am not sure.
