Every Ubuntu-distro I tried has graphical issues directly after install,
see here for example:

Debian also have had problems, also had problems with lot of other
distros. Now I am on Mint Mate, where the desktop works - but no games,
games have graphical problems and are unusable:

I attach some pictures.

Any ideas how to fix? Is it Mesa-related? radeon-driver related? Any
ideas?

In Blender 2.56 selecting objects is verry slow.
Maybe this has someting todo with the "r600: fix blender picking" patch from
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=cf8af9bcf127e170b64112bd548d5d4e79c8e894
not applied to the gallium driver?

This is with:
mesa-dri-drivers-7.10-0.26.fc15.x86_64
on an HP Compaq 6830s
with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3430.

This is *really* annoying, because it makes working in Blender's "object mode"
nearly impossible.

So it could be that this bug is specific to r600, or (hopefully) that

Thanks for testing Sven!

Can you try the following in Blender:
- Add a multiresolution modifier (with at least 7 subdivides) to the default
cube to get a lot more vertices.
- In object mode, select/deselect via viewport clicking several times.
This crashes here *verry* often.

Thanks,
Lars

ps. In Blender preferences>system i use the triple buffer window draw method.
With the other settings the gui slows down a lot.

Public bug reported:

Running Linux Mint 17.3 based on Ubuntu 14.04.1. Just updated on
February 21st, 2016 through the update manager. Next time I attempted to
log into Cinnamon Desktop, it was unable to start and all 3d dependent
programs were non-functional. The system defaulted to the basic 2d
drivers. 3d dependent WINE programs such as WoW failed to start and
system acts like 3d hardware acceleration isn't even there. Had to
install LXDE and revert to recommended xserver drivers in order to make
system usable again.

If you are having an xorg crash issue, it will help immensely if you filed a
new report with Ubuntu by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed,
and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging
information running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235818] [NEW] Xorg segmentation faults when using Synapse

2016-02-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

## Description

For the past few months I have been experiencing a sporadic but very
dangerous and critical issue. For some unknown reason my Xorg server
will sometimes crash when attempting to open the drop-down list in
Synapse. This usually happens after the system has been up for a while.

Downgrading Synapse to the build in the Ubuntu repos didn't help.
Neither did upgrading the kernel and graphics stack to the latest
hardware enablement stacks (I tried both Quantal and Raring. I am
currently on the latter.)

Do you think this is a fault on Synapse's part or will I have to report
this with X.org?

In any case I sincerely hope there is some way to fix this and I'd
appreciate any help.

## Additional information:

weirdness of how it's implemented in hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547235] Re: 1002:7942 [Samsung NP-R40FY0E/SEG] Graphical corruption

2016-02-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Micha, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please
report this problem via
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg&component=Driver/Radeon
(not make comments on preexisting bug reports)?

Please provide a direct URL to your bug report once you have made it so
that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1545834] Re: Session exits when removing external monitor

2016-02-22 Thread Szilard Novaki
I've attached my Xorg.0.log after the session exited and I saw the new
login screen (switched to console CTRL-ALT-F1, and copied the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log* to a safe location).

Imho, this is the log of the new Xorg instance. I suspect that as there
is a file Xorg.0.log.old with the same timestamp as the new one.

Unfortunately there is no backtrace, it detects that the monitor is removed:
[ 33982.721] (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 1366x768
[ 33982.724] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1366x768@60.1 on LVDS1 using pipe 0,
position (0, 0), r
otation normal, reflection none

[ 33983.696] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Atmel Atmel maXTouch
Digitizer (/dev/input/even
t10)

Whats worse it seems that the server terminated successfully:
$ tail -10 Xorg.0.log.old
[ 33987.674] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
[ 33987.674] (II) evdev: ASUS USB2.0 Webcam: Close
[ 33987.674] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
[ 33987.674] (II) evdev: Sleep Button: Close
[ 33987.674] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
[ 33987.674] (II) evdev: Power Button: Close
[ 33987.674] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
[ 33987.674] (II) evdev: Video Bus: Close
[ 33987.674] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
[ 33987.714] (EE) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

However there isn't any crash files in /var/crash. Any ideas? Should I
start a session from command line?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel

2016-02-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Darko Veberic, to clarify, only on the MacBookPro3,1 (not other
hardware) does using the nouveau driver allow x to start?

If not, you would want to file a new report about that not working by ensuring
you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for
attaching additional debugging information running the following from a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

When using trusty on my M3800 (4k screen) with an external monitor (also

somehow related to GPU memory. This is really a productivity killer!

How do i close or redraw this bug request?

Or have you already done that by changing the status in invalid?

Well, it isn't actually a virtual buttons. It's part of touchscreen but is
outside of screen display area, like in this picture:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel

2016-02-22 Thread Darko Veberic
ok, i purged all nvidia related packages and installed your request. the
packages now are

libcuda1-340 340.96-0ubuntu2
nvidia-340340.96-0ubuntu2
nvidia-opencl-icd-340 340.96-0ubuntu2
nvidia-prime0.8.2
nvidia-settings361.28-0ubuntu1

unfortunately, the x11 still does not start. the Xorg.0.log is the same
as above but the journalctl --dmesg is slightly different:

kernel: NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory.
kernel: NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0x:747)
kernel: NVRM: rm_init_adapter failed for device bearing minor number 0
kernel: NVRM: nvidia_frontend_open: minor 0, module->open() failed, error -5

i hope this helps. it was really nice to revive these old macs with
ubuntu...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1229761] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2016-02-22 Thread Jay Eichelberger
The other day, did a normal update and upgrade.
This included:
 2016-02-19 13:35:38
Upgrade: fglrx-updates:amd64 (15.200-0ubuntu0.6, 15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1),
fglrx-updates-core:amd64 (15.200-0ubuntu0.6, 15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1),
fglrx-amdcccle-updates:amd64 (15.200-0ubuntu0.6, 15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1)

today I did a dpkg-query -l | grep -v ^i

 and looked for discrepancies.

Saw:
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)

Architecture Description

rc fglrx 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.3
amd64Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators
rc fglrx-core 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.3
amd64Minimal video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators

I realize that fglrx and fglrx-updates are incompatible.

*Assumed* that it would be good to purge and remove fglrx and fglrx-
core.

got this error
Errors were encountered while processing:
 fglrx
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:

state was then:
pc fglrx 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.3
amd64Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators

The *assumed* it would be good to remove fglrx as:
sudo aptitude remove fglrx

No error on that.

Then *assumed* OK to reinstall fglrx-updates as:
sudo aptitude reinstall fglrx-updates
No error here.
But somewhere, the crash and error report was generated...

I'm running Ubuntu
Release 14.04
Kernel Linux 3.16.0-60-generic
Mate 1.8.2

on an AMD64 machine.
Hope this helps...

Christopher, thanks for the hint.

Dell ships a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (DP-mDP) with the display.
The mDP cable is connected to the X250 and the DP cable is connected to the
