Idles at around 70°C at room temperature of ~22°C, have BIOS set to shutdown at 95°C to avoid hardware damage. Computer will shut itself off due to temperature under moderate load such as viewing flash video in Firefox on hulu.com. This has been repeated at least 3 times. Running the proprietary fglrx driver 2:8.721-0ubuntu7 (with no other software changes), the computer idles @ 45°C (20°C cooler) at room temperature of ~22°C. Watching video on hulu.com does not cause overheating issues. This is something that could damage computers. If it's under warranty but Ubuntu is found on the hard drive the manufacturer will probably void the warranty. I certainly don't want Ubuntu to get that kind of reputation. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560056] [NEW] [RV770] Lucid beta 2 unbootable from LiveCD/LiveUSB
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I downloaded the beta 2 ISO from the servers and made a LiveCD for fresh install of 10.04. The boot process is carried out until near the end, the purple plymouth screen goes away and then all I get is flickering screen with lines running across it. I did a few things like "nomodeset" and "pci=nomsi" but nothing does. The later one sends the monitor into power saving mode and the only way out is a hard reboot. I tried to drop to the terminal when the screen starts to flicker and ran #dmesg | grep drm and there are error messages related to my graphics card. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless
Hi, This problem is still present in Xenial Xerus daily-build (I'm using the MATE flavor). I found that by changing, via update-alternatives, the x86_64-linux- gnu_gl_conf and i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf link-groups back to the Mesa choices, with the fglrx (or fglrx-updates) package still installed, and then rebooting, the virtual consoles now work and lsmod shows that the fglrx module is still being used (and the radeon module is not). So I guess this shows that the OpenGL configuration that uses fglrx is somehow related to the problem, and that the fglrx module is capable of having working virtual consoles. Just to note, after changing those alternatives: - My x86_64-linux-gnu_gfxcore_conf alternative is still the choice for fglrx-core. - My OpenGL is Mesa of course and is much slower (unusably slow, as usual) than using fglrx for OpenGL. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1470862 Title: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1470862/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1545834] Re: Session exits when removing external monitor
Szilard Novaki, please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash Where FILENAME is the actual name of the file found in the folder. However, this report is being closed since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1526079] Re: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible
Could you share a little technical background on how the BIOS could affect what seems to be a problem manifested either in X or the Intel display driver? I'm not saying it couldn't play a role, but it seems extremely likely that the problem lies in one of those places. I've been unsuccessful so far in attempts to update the BIOS, as Lenovo makes this process somewhat more difficult for users without Windows. The problem happened again today; While moving the cursor from monitor to another, it disappeared, and now it is only drawn on the external display. I can still hover/select/click things on the primary display, but the cursor is not drawn graphically. I would still greatly appreciate any suggestions for things that I can do when this does happen which would help narrow down what is happening and lead me closer to a repro. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1526079 Title: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1526079/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel
after some more digging the problems might be related to the fact that the disk partition table was left in the hybrid GPT/MBR format and thus the mac is booting in the efi mode. according to http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/ this might cause limited support for nvidia graphics card and related bios rom problems. in other words, the mac is not booting in the bios compatibility mode. since ubuntu is the only operating system on the machine, i will reinstall it by wiping the disk and using a dos partition table. this should force the mac to boot into the bios mode. unfortunately, since ubuntu 16.04 desktop dvd does not boot via the optical drive, i have to use ubuntu 15.10 server cd and then do-release-upgrade since 16.04 desktop does not fit into a standard cd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547599 Title: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1547599/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1548845] [NEW] [FFe] mesa 11.2.0
Public bug reported: Mesa 11.2.0-rc1 was released yesterday. The release schedule towards 11.2.0 final is as follows: "The plan is to have one release candidate every Friday, until the final release on March 11th 2016." which means there will be two release candidates before the final. First point release will happen two weeks after, so we can have that too in 16.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1545834] Re: Session exits when removing external monitor
Finally, I made some progress, hope it helps you. I've checked the daily image, this is what I've found: * In the default config, there removal of default external monitor is handled correctly. * Then I arranged my displays as I use it every day (see attached image) * The unity-settings-daemon has crashed after disconnecting the external monitor (apport popped up, but I did not file a new bug). So I thought that I have the same thing with 14.04 too, but maybe I have disabled reporting errors for settings-daemon earlier. I've found a file called ~/.apport-ignore.xml, and yes, it contained the settings daemon. I removed it from ignore and now I have crash file around the time of monitor removal, and its the crash of settings daemon. ** Attachment added: "Display arrangement" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1545834/+attachment/4579047/+files/Screenshot%20from%202016-02-23%2013-47-07.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1545834 Title: Session exits when removing external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1545834/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 589485] Re: Ignores physical display size and calculates based on 96DPI
Hi All, I'm jumping in this thread because I think this 'bug' is the source of many scaling issues. I'm the owner of a 13" laptop with a 3200x1800 native resolution. As recommended elsewhere, I set the scale factor to 2 and most applications are readable now. However, readable is does not mean correct. Using 3 different tools, I get 3 different DPI.
