[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1580219] Re: screen switches off

2016-07-03 Thread esparky
I have a update about this behavior - problem exists only if power
supply is connected. It is ok if notebook is powered by battery. I tried
two power supplies, but both causes same problem.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1587749] Re: random 1-2s black screen

2016-07-03 Thread Haug Bürger
Hi Christopher,

I'll check if I'm able to update, it's a business notebook where I have
limited access. I have to check what's possible there.

What I tried is the latest stable mainline kernel 4.6.3 which improves
the situation significantly. At least the NB doesn't crash any more
putting it back to the docking station.

The mainline kernel doesn't support Docker (AUFS missing) which makes it
problematic for me.

I keep you posted
Haug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1589893] Re: Xorg crashes

2016-07-03 Thread Kevin
Hi Christopher, thank you for taking care about this issue.

Unfortunately I cannot say if occurred prior to 15.10.
My latest Ubuntu on this device was 15.10, which also had some issues.
But I'm not sure if they were related to [Bug 1589837] or this bug.

This issue occurs 10-20 times a day and is very annoying.
I worked with MacOSX on my device for one day, to be sure that's no hardware
related issue.
With OSX everything works stable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 602809] Re: add Mouse Click Debounce Feature?

2016-07-03 Thread Eric Sandall
I'm still seeing this issue with a Logitech G700 with Linux Mint 17.3
(based on Ubuntu 14.04). I did not need Whitlock's patched evdev driver,
but adding Comment #4's xorg.conf work-around seems to have alleviated
this issue for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-07-03 Thread Ty Young
1). I'm currently using an Nvidia driver from the Official Ubuntu Driver
PPA here: https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

I have used driver versions that are just in the normal Ubuntu
repositories and they still have graphical glitches.

2). No, not that I'm aware of.

As said before, the graphical glitches in 16.04 isn't as bad or frequent
as in 15.10. However, the overview corruption, bootloader screen being
shown up until the login screen, and the bootloader cutout on each TTY
screen is the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ty Young:
1) To clarify, did you install the nvidia drivers from upstream or the Ubuntu
repositories?
2) Is there an older version of the driver that doesn't demonstrate this
problem?

** Tags removed: bios-outdated-p03.a2l

** Description changed:

When launching certain OpenGL games, graphical glitches consisting of
current or recently closed applications can be seen at the very bottom
of the screen as the window goes fullscreen.

This mostly only happens on games that load a lot of data before
starting. Smaller games usually start with little or not graphical
  glitches.

While I am not 100% sure, this bug may also be causing a cut-out of the
bootloader on all TTY console screens, making them very hard to use as
well as the bootloader screen showing until the Gnome shell loads.

Mirrored displays is not accessible (grayed out) when trying to activate

It maybe an error with the package xfce4-display-settings, but I am not
sure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1240869] [NEW] nouveau spits errors and hangs when ubuntu search window is openned

2016-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Every time I open that Ubuntu search thing computer starts to lag.
Sometimes blurred backdrop disappears, sometimes other random controls
turn green (that is, solid rectangle instead of graphics). Computer even
completely froze once.

The video adapter is GeForce 8400 GS. Desktop resolution is 1920x1200.
I've got an impression that this didn't occur with previous, much
smaller screen (the PC is at work, and that monitor got replaced soon
after I started to work there). So this might be caused by lack of
resources or something.

For instance, Workspace Switched doesn't cause anything, even though
it's probably graphics intense, too (tossing 8 full HD images of
desktops around, after all)

If I do `tail -f /var/log/syslog', I notice that nouveau spits a lot of errors.
Here is excerpt from the log (the full log is attached):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-07-03 Thread Ty Young
I attempted to upgrade the BIOS but I received an error saying that the
ROM size is not the same as the BIOS size. The current version of my
BIOS is PO2-A3, if it helps any.

My laptop (HP Pavilion 15-ab141na) is simply booting to a black screen
on 16.04, the backlight is on but there is no display. Sound is working
so I can hear the ubuntu logon noise and can SSH from another machine.

During boot the screen on the laptop looks as if it is flashing off and
on trying to set modes or something similar, I'm guessing this is the
looping shown in the output below

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577170] [NEW] screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some time of inactivity

2016-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I did a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04 on my old dell computer in which
there is an ati radeon X1300 graphics card.

Whenever the screen turns off due to inactivity, it cannot be woken up
by moving the mouse or by hitting a key.

When I kill the Xorg process via ssh with another computer, the screen
then comes to life again and I can log back in.

When I remove the graphic card from the computer and use the built in
graphic card instead, the bug doesn't occur. So I guess it is related to
the radeon driver.

Oddly enough, there is no problem waking the screen when I type "xset
-display :0.0 dpms force off" in a terminal. Moreover typing gnome-
screensaver-command -a in a terminal turns my screen off and after
typing this line, the screen can be woken up by moving the mouse or by
hitting a key. I'm confused.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1552693] Re: Radeon driver only provides 1024x768 resolution

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
iceboy, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue,
at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1554509] Re: Screen remains black after resume from hibernation

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
YS1:
1) Did this issue not occur in a Ubuntu release prior to 16.04?
2) To keep this relevant to upstream, could you please test the latest mainline
kernel (4.7-rc5) and advise to the results?

** No longer affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- I ran sudo pm-hibernate, then rebooted.

The hibernation part itself seems to work nice.

+ Resuming presents the following behaviour:
   - the booting sequence starts
   - the console shows the progress of the resuming process (10%, 20%, etc.)
   - my monitor switches to graphical mode like I would expect, but it then
remains black instead of showing my desktop. It does not go to "sleep mode"
like it does when the computer is off or the DVI cable is disconnected.

The computer remains responsive, and if music was playing when
hibernation started, it properly resumes. I can also use the keyboard
(to run sudo reboot now, for example). Switching to another virtual
console (Ctrl+Alt+1, Ctrl+Alt+7) does not improve the situation.

I have also rolled back to SNA and haven't yet had a crash so 16.04
seems to have solved the issue. I will probably have a crash now as
soon as I post this comment.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590432] Re: elan touchpad freezes randomly on ubuntu 16.04

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
lillo82, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue,
at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598593] [NEW] No video acceleration for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300)

2016-07-03 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

After updating the Ubuntu HWS stack in 14.04 to Wily (kernel 4.2 and
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-wily), system boots up fine, but screen is
laggy; although DRI3 is now enabled (according to Xorg.0.log), 2D
acceleration seems to be gone.

System is an older Pentium laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote) with a Radeon
Xpress 200M chip (r300 driver). Video acceleration was working with DRI2
under the Vivid stack (kernel 3.19-64-lowlatency + xserver-xorg-video-
radeon-lts-vivid).

I'm using a 14.04 LTS-based distro, ElementaryOS, with vanilla HWS stacks.
(Testing with Oibaf's PPA or Xorg-edgers repo did not solve the problem either,
so I purged the PPAs and reverted to official Ubuntu sources)

Here's Xorg.0.log: (with /etc/X11/xorg.conf; removing it did not solve
the problem)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1579182] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A

2016-07-03 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
Ok, I don't know exactly what triggers this error... I think that Chrome
showing Tweetdeck or some big flashing-ad does it, because the screen
flickers/breaks a lot (and in Ubuntu 14.04 didn't)... anyway, now I've
installed 4.7.0-040700rc5-generic kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc5-yakkety/ and I'll report if I have this
error in a week of work.

I've had 7 errors like this in 4 days of regular work, so I'll come back
with news in a week or so.

Regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598507] Re: while downloading material from synaptic .

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kotaeus, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ty Young, as per http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update
to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available
(P03.A3). When you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1575412] Re: Graphical glitches when certain OpenGL games go fullscreen

2016-07-03 Thread Ty Young
You mean reinstalling/switching driver versions? Yes, it is... sort of.

Steam(and thus the openGL games I play) don't work with open source GPU
driver,

The graphical glitches seem to depend on what was/is going on in the
GPUs memory/framebuffer. If you have chromium open or opened recently
you might see parts of Chromium mixed in with the graphical glitches.
Same thing for every other application.

Switching between TTY and Gnome shell or switching users causes
graphical corruption in overview. restarting the shell fixes it(see
attachment).

This bug also happens on the GTX 750 TI as well that I had before.

I'm not on an expert on these things, but I really this needs to fixed
ASAP. If the GPU is displaying information like this of previously
opened applications or currently open then personal information could
*potentially* be leaked via a corrupt but readable image of a word
document or something.

Please consider giving it a higher importance level/rating!

2016-07-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Darin Gillenwater, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Could you please capture the crash following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSystemCrash ?

** Description changed:

- I tried submitting a bug on this a few days ago but it seems it never
- went through. At any rate, my system will freeze completely at random
- anytime I'm using a graphic intensive program. For example, the Steam
- app, SuperTuxKart or most recently while watching a movie online in
- Firefox and while using my HDMI output to TV. This happens with or
- without the HDMI, in case that's important.
-
- At any rate, when the freeze occurs, there is nothing short of holding
- the power button and doing a hard reboot that will stop it.
-
- I am relearning Unix and feel comfortable doing any debugging required,
- given instruction. I really love my Ubuntu and don't want to go back to
- Windows, but this is shackling me!
