[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
I am still observing the problem on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 x86 desktop, which has C77 [GeForce 8300] (rev a2) graphics. I assume this is because 304.134 has not yet been backported to 16.04.1 LTS. I hope the bug is fixed soon, as it's a little disconcerting that the latest stable Ubuntu release does not work on my non-bleeding-edge desktop. (Nouveau crashes too often to be useful, and the more up-to-date proprietary driver has so many artifacts on the screen that it is unusable.) For now, I have worked around the problem by using the recipe in #20 to go back to 304.131-0ubuntu3. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639180 Title: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1639180/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655752] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count()
Public bug reported: Using Xubuntu 16.04, including light-locker, whenever the screen has been locked the X server will SIGABRT crash as soon as the user has entered their credentials. This happens 100% of the time. The only related information I can find is a Debian bug report: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=838462 I ran the crash report through gdb and it seems there is a null pointer dereference attempt for the 'device' without checking the pointer is valid. signo = 11 #6 No locals. #7 libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count (device=0x0) at libinput.c:3075 No locals. #8 0x7fcb5c100953 in xf86libinput_parse_tap_option (device=0x0, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:1686 tap = #9 xf86libinput_parse_options (device=0x0, driver_data=0x5616b23406a0, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2134 options = 0x5616b2340700 #10 xf86libinput_pre_init (drv=, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0, flags=) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2465 driver_data = 0x5616b23406a0 shared_device = libinput = device = 0x0 path = #11 0x5616b0d0f998 in xf86NewInputDevice (pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0, pdev=pdev@entry=0x7ffce92a7c60, enable=) at ../../../../hw/xfree86/common/xf86Xinput.c:900 drv = 0x5616b1c9a840 dev = 0x0 paused = 0 rval = path = 0x5616b2092fb0 "libinput" #12 0x5616b0d1091e in NewInputDeviceRequest (options=, attrs=0x5616b23a4ad0, pdev=pdev@entry=0x7ffce92a7c60) at ../../../../hw/xfree86/common/xf86Xinput.c:1049 pInfo = option = rval = is_auto = #13 0x7fcb5c0ff5e7 in xf86libinput_hotplug_device (hotplug=0x5616b23482c0) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2224 dev = 0x5616b10c8a40 #14 0x7fcb5c0ff82c in xf86libinput_hotplug_device_cb (client=, closure=) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2241 hotplug = #15 0x5616b0cc5c71 in ProcessWorkQueue () at ../../dix/dixutils.c:526 q = 0x5616b23a4960 p = 0x5616b10c15d8 #16 0x5616b0e1c6dd in WaitForSomething (pClientsReady=pClientsReady@entry=0x5616b208caf0) at ../../os/WaitFor.c:176 i = waittime = {tv_sec = 0, tv_usec = 32} wt = 0x0 timeout = clientsReadable = {fds_bits = {0 }} clientsWritable = {fds_bits = {0 }} selecterr = nready = 0 devicesReadable = {fds_bits = {0 }} now = someReady = 0 ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.18.4-0ubuntu0.2 Uname: Linux 4.9.0-040900rc5-lowlatency x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.4 Architecture: amd64 CrashCounter: 1 Date: Wed Jan 11 18:06:23 2017 ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg ExecutableTimestamp: 1478124781 ProcCmdline: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -core :0 -seat seat0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch ProcCwd: / ProcEnviron: Signal: 6 SourcePackage: xorg-server StacktraceTop: libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count (device=0x0) at libinput.c:3075 xf86libinput_parse_tap_option (device=0x0, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:1686 xf86libinput_parse_options (device=0x0, driver_data=0x5616b23406a0, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2134 xf86libinput_pre_init (drv=, pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0, flags=) at ../../src/xf86libinput.c:2465 xf86NewInputDevice (pInfo=0x5616b20d54e0, pdev=pdev@entry=0x7ffce92a7c60, enable=) at ../../../../hw/xfree86/common/xf86Xinput.c:900 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count() UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xorg-server (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Tags: amd64 apport-crash need-amd64-retrace third-party-packages xenial ** Information type changed from Private to Public ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #838462 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=838462 ** Also affects: xorg-server (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=838462 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1655752 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1655752/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655709] [NEW] Spurious crash report dialog on every login
Public bug reported: For the last few years, on nearly all my computers, ubuntu has rewarded my logging in with a crash dialog. Nothing's actually wrong; xorg probably trips over its shoelaces every time it shuts down, but so late in the process that it doesn't matter. Today I went through the crash upload procedure, but no web browser window opened, so either I did something wrong, or the bug is marked 'ignore uploads' somehow... hence this manual report. This bug has to have been reported before, but has probably been marked WONTFIX or something because it is benign. But it does matter, and it's not benign, because I, my wife, and my son get those darn crash dialogs. It doesn't seem to matter what graphics card or driver is in use. Want the crash file left behind after the last upload? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1597437] Re: X with nouveau driver, 2 nvidia cards, 4 monitors, does not use all monitors
I met with the same bug in Ubuntu 16.04.1 (amd64): 2 NVIDIA adapters with DVI and HDMI connectors on each of them, 4 identical Samsung monitors, 4th monitor is dead, 3rd is sometimes garbled, sometimes is OK. All the error messages described by Martin are the same. Luckily in #2 he provided the method which cures the bug with ATI cards in Fedora. I decided to try it with Nouveau driver in Ubuntu and it worked! I downloaded the sources using 'apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-nouveau', found the string in drmmode_display.c which checks whether HAS_DIRTYTRACKING2 is defined and fixed it. Then I compiled the driver and replaced '/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so' with the fixed version. After reboot all 4 monitors were working on login screen, '~/.config/monitors.xml' was created properly and all monitors were present when I logged in. I'm attaching the patch. Maybe the developers will notice it and fix the Nouveau driver? (BTW, ATI driver in Ubuntu 16.04 seems already fixed - I checked its sources and the mentioned string is already in place in drmmode_display.c) ** Patch added: "Fixes improper handling of 3rd and 4th monitors" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1597437/+attachment/4802770/+files/nouveau_drv.patch ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1597437 Title: X with nouveau driver, 2 nvidia cards, 4 monitors, does not use all monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1597437/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
