[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1656623] [NEW] create new folder, text display disapears

2017-01-15 Thread Stephen Matthias
Public bug reported:

After the most recent upgrade (It is now January 15, 2017 at 2:45 EST),
I right-click on the desktop. Then I select the "Create New Folder"
value. When I select the "Rename..." value and then click on the text
box, the monitor display disappears from view, although the keystrokes
are recorded. The folder name appears after I press Return but I have
no feedback from the monitor as I press they keyboard keys.

A fix for bug 1388490 now exists, so if this one becomes reproducible
then it might be fixed too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1553441] Re: [Asus K55DR] When VGA plugged into laptop, only one monitor working at a time

2017-01-15 Thread lazanet
** Description changed:

- When my ASUS VW183 external monitor is connected to the VGA port of my
+ When my ASUS VW193 external monitor is connected to the VGA port of my
laptop (AMD Radeon 7470m) internal laptop monitor stops working. Using
the Unity Control Center I'm able to set laptop monitor as primary which
disables external monitor (and vice-versa). Tried manual switch to
mainline Linux 4.5 kernel, same thing. Tested on 14.04, 15.10, 16.04
  with same results.

However, if I plug the Asus monitor into the laptop via VGA, plug my Vox
TV into the laptop via HDMI, and set the resolution to 1280x720, it
displays fine on both the monitor and TV.

Also, the internal monitor and just HDMI together show properly.

However, if I adjust to 1080i, the above working dual screen configurations
show a graphical glitch:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1656658] [NEW] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang

2017-01-15 Thread GSJ
Public bug reported:

After sleep/wake cycle, switching windows and text scrolls become very slow.
Ubuntu GUI feels quite sluggish to the point of being unusable. I've been
living with this issue for months, hoping next update might fix the problem,
but no such luck! I've searched far and wide looking for a solution but
everything I read so far doesn't appear to address the issue in current
release. I believe I've all required updates(see below) but still no joy. In
case I missed something, please point me to the solution.

I used 'ubuntu-bug xorg' so I'm assuming all required logs/info is
already attached. In case not, I'm attaching dmesg.txt,
i915_error_state, Xorg.0.log. Please let me know if you require any
additional information.

Regards,
GSJ.

Juan's fix does the trick for me! Thank you so much!

The only drawback is that I can't inverse the scroll direction with two
fingers anymore. Under Settings > Mouse & Touchpad the checkbox "Natural
Scrolling" is gone. But I'm just glad that I can now use the touchpad at
all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-01-15 Thread Juan Hernández
Philipp, I'm using Cinnamon instead of Gnome and the option is still
present.

Anyway I guess you could try Ubuntu Tweaks to change this property or
simply set the option by editing the configuration file installed with
the package (I think it should be
"/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf") and adding the following
line inside the "InputClass" section:

   Option "NaturalScrolling" "true"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1656155] [NEW] System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a 1-month old Acer Aspire F5-573-58VX that came with Win-10
installed. It relies on its Intel i5-7200u for its graphics (HD 620). It
runs Win-10 with no problems (other than Win-10 itself), so I do not
suspect the hardware.

I succeeded in dual-booting Ubuntu 16.04 with EFI and secure-boot both
enabled, but was suffering random freezes at 3-30 minutes of use, even
after setting the c-state limit in grub. It hangs both with and without
Intel microcode. So I upgraded to 16.10 hoping that a newer kernel would
have a fix in it.

It's still freezing at random (many apps, and sometimes using only the
desktop controls). It still has the c-state parameter in grub.

It appears that if I leave the system untouched with the cursor in an
empty area, then no freeze will occur (I can see display changing) as
long as I don't touch anything. Bittorrent runs reliably overnight, and
then the machine can freeze within seconds of my moving the cursor to a
control in the morning.

Thunderbird is also suspicious: I can work most of an hour OK as long as
I never move the cursor over the scroll slider in the folder pane.
However, bringing the cursor close enough to change the slider's
appearance will usually freeze the machine. Update: I've now experienced
a freeze while the cursor was stationary and I was merely typing into an
email message window.

When it freezes, the machine goes quiet (it's not spinning). There's no
message to the GUI, only a sudden halt. When frozen, soft restart and
reboot (ctrl-alt-back & ctrl-alt-del) both fail. Only a forced power-off
has had any effect. (I'll try your alt+sysreq combos in my next freeze).

Synaptic says I have an intel driver update utility installed, but I
don't know if it has run. When I try to sudo it, I am told that the
command is not found. I have been unable to locate it in the file
system. If anyone knows where that goes (or where to hunt), that might
be helpful.

I do not (yet) know how to ssh into the sick machine to get kernel logs
or crash dumps. I'm a user-space programmer, not a sysadmin, so I have a
learning curve to open the firewall enough to allow an intrusion, and
more learning curves for the cryptic debugging tools.

There's one suspicious line in the boot log: "drm:parse_csr_fw
[i915_bpo]] ERROR Unknown stepping info, firmware loading failed". I
wonder if that's related to the driver for Intel chip's embedded
graphics.

My current work-around is to do as much work as possible in Win-10 :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1656155] Re: System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-01-15 Thread Jeffry R. Fisher
FindRightPackage suggests "kernel DRM driver (linux package)". Since
similar bug reports seem to be clustering on Intel CPUs that have on-
board GPUs, I can only guess that it means the Intel-specific libdrm.
However, I wonder about the i965-va-driver on my Kabylake i5-7200u.

X .Org Server 1.19 was released on 2016-11-15
1.19.1 was released on 2017-01-11

Can we have the latest version compiled for Ubuntu so it can be tested if this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
I've got this problem on Linux Mint 18 Xfce (sorry...), German keyboard,
for kde based apps, ever since I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04.

konsole and kate are the applications where it hurts most.

Neither Compose key+accent+char nor typing the accent, then the char,
work for me

(I only need ^, ´ and `, which work fine in other apps. I'd like to be
able to use regexes in kate and write the occasional French
translation...).

@Pierre: our problems appear similar. Did you find a solution?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1560498] Re: Unity8 using vmwgfx_dri.so crashed in mir::graphics::nested::detail::DisplayBuffer::make_current() -> eglMakeCurrent() -> ... -> dri2_image_get_buffers() [platform_mi

2017-01-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I chose Medium on the assumption that the only Mir code affected here
was a couple of examples (and that the real problem is Mesa bug
1480755). However the issue affecting Unity8 might be the same mistake
from the examples also made in real_kms_display_configuration.cpp and
elsewhere. So yeah that would qualify as high then.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
@Gunnar Hjalmarsson:

It was set to 'none' before, so maybe mine is a different bug, then?

(XIM wasn't available for choice in the LM settings dialog for input
method, I didn't know how to find out if it was used, but not
displayed.).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Hachmann: Well, I forgot that you are on Linux Mint...

At the release of Ubuntu 16.04 "none" meant actually "XIM". It has been
changed via updates, so on an updated Ubuntu 16.04 you have both a
"none" option (actually setting "none") and a "XIM" option. I suspect
that those changes have not been taken into account on Linux Mint. (They
use a modified package.)

So probably also you had a XIM problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working with XIM after upgrade to 16.04

2017-01-15 Thread Hachmann
Thank you, @Gunnar Hjalmarsson. I'm still on LM18, maybe update to 18.1
when available for Xfce version will take up those changes.

Unfortunately, fixing this caused a different kate problem now... Can't paste
with Ctrl+V (just in case anyone encounters the same as a result of following
my path: pasting works for me when kate's snippet dialog isn't visible).
Now I'll need to decide which problem is the one that bugs me more - no
accents, or no pasting with snippet dialog open... Seems these input methods
are entangled with very unexpected things. Must be a programmer's hell...! I
think I'll create a snippet with accented letters and go with XIM :-\
