Public bug reported: Xorg: ../../present/present.c:489: present_flip_notify: Assertion `vblank == screen_priv->flip_pending' failed. I encountered X server abort above many times when changing layout and resolution of the screens. Though it is quite random. But it is already fixed in the next X server version 1.19. While Ubuntu 16.04.2 uses X server 1.18. The patch is https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=e473b2bc016adacfe3fa47fdf6a8ce9f8cddff62 . I tried and it applied cleanly to branch 1.18 and I solved the issue for me. The patch above contains a reproduction test. I have this problem on my Dell XPS 15 9560 running Ubuntu 17.04. It occurs specifically when I am moving the pointer with one finger and I click with another finger before lifting my original finger. The only workaround is to only have one finger on the touchpad at a time, which is very slow-going. Hi all,
I look deep into the problem and I'm not sure if it is the kernel issue or Xorg
issue.
We might need to spend more time on this issue to tracing into the Xorg code.
The problem happens to the modesetting driver in Xorg. So if you remove
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so it will use the fbdev driver
and the X will start.
When modesetting is there, we got a SIGSEGV. And it happens to a line
that shouldn't have any problem.
