[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1376903] Re: Caps lock delay
So is this halted again? Is there basically no hope to fixing this bug that drives me crazy day and night? I'm honestly starting to feel Windows and Macs have better support and faster responses. But then I guess that's the penalty of having an open source OS. Just frustrating how I really need the bash of Ubuntu but not only games but also the keyboard isn't fully supported on Ubuntu. At least the mouse is supported though I must add my touchscreen too is worthless on Ubuntu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639517] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting
I suggest to change the importance of tis bug from "low" to "high"! I bought this notebook in May 2016; installed was windows 10. I hardly use windows. Additionally, for "productivity" work, I installed 3x linux - at that time kubuntu and ubuntu 14.04 with amd driver fglrx. I upgraded 1 installation to 16.04, because while working 14.04 often suddenly "died", i.e. no further keyboard or mouse input was possible; no reboot was possible, I had to shutdown by pressing the off-button for several-seconds. 16.04 does not support fglrx, it can only be started by using kernel parameter nomodeset. Hoping this situation would change, I tested all new kernels and versions. One effect was, three times I had to set up the pc completely, also recovering win 10 - that lasted every time about one week: E.g. installing 16.10 at a seperate partition and starting without any workaround parameters, the esp (efi system partition) was destroyed, I was not able to repair the installion. Meanwhile, for productivity use, I have changed to a tower. The hp pavilion is only used for testing graphic driver support! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1639517 Title: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1639517/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Also installation ISO contains these packages and everyone downloads something that will not be used in most if not all desktop setups. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701747 Title: Remove hard dependencies on libmir* in relevant packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1701747/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card
@Kai-Heng: I do use a mini Displayport Cable with a Lenovo Thinkpad T460S. In the meantime I tried every kernel I could install using ukuu. However, none of them worked. Prior to Ukuu I did use a kernel from the nightly builds (drm-intel) and the monitor worked but WLAN not. Therefore, I deinstalled it. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which kernel it was. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1686189 Title: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1686189/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1701747] Re: Remove hard dependencies on libmir* in relevant packages
the libraries are tiny, why are they an issue for you? it's the way linux binaries work, if you use symbols from a library it needs to be installed. the library doesn't pull in the server though so it shouldn't be an issue. you have a probably other libraries installed on your system for similar reasons since that's something quite usual. Nautilus for example leads to have libsmb installed for people who need to connect to samba/windows remote share...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1698287] Re: VA-API fails to initialize in a Gnome Shell Wayland session
Without sounding too defeated, I think it might be a good idea for us to not use the patch in comment #5 any time soon. The reason is that while the patch is correct, it triggers bigger issues in clutter-gst. And that starts to make me think I'm going too deep down this rabbit hole. It probably doesn't make sense to fix gstreamer/clutter stuff if it's too time consuming, when we already know gstreamer lacks a variety of working demuxers, and is already so unpopular that it's not part of the long term plan anyway (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntelQuickSyncVideo). The only real problem is that 'totem' is still our default video player. And if clutter-gst is a mandatory requirement for that then I either need to not give up yet, or we should consider changing default video players in future (ideally to something that's more purely FFmpeg instead of GStreamer). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to intel-vaapi-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698287 Title: VA-API fails to initialize in a Gnome Shell Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libva/+bug/1698287/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1701747] Re: Remove hard dependencies on libmir* in relevant packages
IMO this is a design issue in Mesa - it hard links to all the backends enabled at build time. That also means, for example that a Mir based system pulls in a bunch of X libraries. The same is true for Wayland. A runtime dependency would be more satisfactory for everyone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531224] Re: lightdm-gtk-greeter flickers once little after lightdm starts
Can confirm this bug persisted on my Thinkpad L430 with Xenial 16.04.1 with kernel 4.4.0.81. However, it was fixed by manually updating the kernel to the latest version (4.8.0.58) by running sudo apt-get install --install-recommends xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 Now, I don't see the flicker anymore.
