Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1739322] Re: Hazardous displays when coming back from sleep state

2018-02-17 Thread Pierre Wilch
Christopher M. Penalver,

- I tried to reproduce the problem after login with GNOME Flashback
(Metacity) for 2 days.
I tried many things, but without success, everything worked perfectly.

- By awakening with Unity, the display comes back during one second,
then every time becomes black again during another second, and then
stays on with or without the blinking problem of parts of the screen.
With Metacity, as a normal behavior, the screen does not become black
again during one second, and the display is immediately good, as expected.
The screen becoming black again is not normal and is a sign for a not
mastered screen processing, pieces of code taking their liberty for
undesirable results.

- I have noticed that the problem has more chance to occur after opening
and closing several windows, and switching between them. Again today.

- It is possible that the problem appeared with the kernel release which
began to manage Intel graphic cards.
I remember, without warranty, having feared the worse at that moment,
_before_. Since, perhaps with Unity a crazy process is remaining on
awakening.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens

2018-02-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
nukedathlonman, to advise, given there are no debugging logs provided,
developers are unable to work on this issue. Hence, please answer all of
the following questions:

1) Could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the
sticker of the computer itself (not from the Bug Description, or the
result of a terminal command)?

2) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
for this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to
the results?

3) If reproducible, could you please provide the missing information
from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash ?

** Description changed:

I'm having a hard time tracing this down. I updated to Kubuntu 16.04
(from Kubuntu 15.10 - that was using the Linux Crimson 15.12 driver) a
couple days ago on my notebook (HP Pavilion, A10-8700P APU), and ever
since I've been having random black screens.

I started debugging the driver, then thought it might be a DPMS issue
(it's not - I have DPMS fully disabled currently), and now I'm back to
  debugging the driver.

I don't have any remnants of the former closed Crimson display driver
and never had an xorg.conf file (I made a small one that I'm using at
the moment consisting of only a server layout to ensure screen savers,
  DPMS, etc are all off).

The Black screen can happen any time from the login screen until hours
later. I can ssh into the system to shut it down. And just discovered
that if I unplug the system from it's power brick, I can close the lid -
the system will goto sleep. When I flip the screen back up, the system
wakes up and the screen works again for 1-2 minutes.

I don't see any errors in the log files (well, outside some nasty
  looking ACAPI errors in dmesg).

  HOT TO REPRODUCE:
Boot system and use normally or simply leave system alone. Blank screen will
happen any time after x comes up.

-
  EXPECTED RESULT:
Screen doesn't blank unless a screen saver or power saver kicks in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1631236] Re: Xorg freeze with Nvidia 960m on Dell Inspiron 15-7559

2018-02-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
gpone, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please
undo your WORKAROUNDs, update your HWE stack as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the
results?

2) If still reproducible, could you please provide the missing
information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot ?

** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.2.7

** Summary changed:

- Xorg freeze with Nvidia 960m on Dell Inspiron 15-7559
+ [Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559] Display freezes when booting with nouveau

** Description changed:

- Posted first about this issue at
- https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2339198
+ When attempting to boot, the display freezes on the Ubuntu splash screen
+ after entering my disk password.

- Pasted post below:
+ WORKAROUND: When using nouveau remove "quiet" and "splash" from my grub
+ configuration.

- "I installed Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop alongside Windows 10 Home on a Dell
- Inspiron 15-7559 with an Nvidia 960m card and embeded Intel Skylake
- graphics.
-
- When I first installed Ubuntu and attempted to boot, the display would
- freeze on the Ubuntu splash screen after entering my disk password.
- Strangely, by removing "quiet" and "splash" from my grub configuration
- during my next boot, I was able to finally boot to the login screen and
- access the desktop. I installed the Intel and Nvidia drivers in the
- "Additional Drivers" app and now I can boot to the login screen with no
- issues.
-
- Now, when closing the laptop lid to suspend the system, it resumes to a
- blank screen and I can't get it to recover from this state without
- holding the power button to force shutdown. I verified that it is a
- display issue because I was able to ssh into the machine while it had
- the blank screen.
-
- I was able to install and boot into the latest (4.8) mainline kernel,
- which also gave me a warning/error because of my installed proprietary
- drivers. I tried uninstalling the Nvidia drivers to see if Nouveau had
- been fixed/improved, but the previous splash screen freeze returned; I
- was able to reinstall the drivers by booting into 4.8 recovery mode and
- using the Failsafe graphics mode to reinstall the Nvidia drivers.
-
- Any help on getting Nouveau to work nicely with the 960m so I don't have
- to run proprietary drivers or solve the suspend issue?"
-
- Now, I sometimes cannot shutdown properly without getting warnings about
- cpu soft lockups from gpu-manager. I also get these when I boot without
- nvidia drivers with "quiet" and "splash" options removed from my grub
- config.
+ WORKAROUND: Use nvidia proprietary driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1749893] Re: d

2018-02-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Pedro Rodriguez, thank you for taking the time to report this and
helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1750110] [NEW] Touchpad detected as mouse, webcam as keyboard

2018-02-17 Thread Muhammad Sabih
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have chuwi lapbook 12.3 with ubuntu 17.10. On my ubuntu 17.10 as well
as earlier 16.04, the touchpad was recognized as mouse. The problem is
not in libinput because I have tried to change its rules as well. The
problem seems to be with the kernel. This is my output of

cat //proc/bus/input/devices

I: Bus=0003 Vendor=058f Product=5608 Version=0003
N: Name="USB 2.0 Camera: USB 2.0 Camera"
P: Phys=usb-:00:15.0-8/button
S: Sysfs=/devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/usb1/1-8/1-8:1.0/input/input15
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=kbd event15
B: PROP=0
B: EV=3
B: KEY=10 0 0 0

I: Bus=0003 Vendor=258a Product=1205 Version=0110
N: Name="HAILUCK CO.,LTD Usb Touch"
P: Phys=usb-:00:15.0-1/input1
S:
Sysfs=/devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.1/0003:258A:1205.0002/input/input5
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse0 event5
B: PROP=0
B: EV=17
B: KEY=1f 0 0 0 0
B: REL=143
B: MSC=10

As a result of this, touchpad only has basic pointing features.
Properties like disable touchpad while typinge etc are not applicable.
Because touchpad is treated as a pointer.
