[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1673649] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2018-04-09 Thread Daniel Hollocher
I've been getting this when waking from sleep. I have a weird
experience before with sleep on this computer, where I was running linux
mint 18.something, and I noticed that it wasn't going to sleep all the
time. It was a weird thing where opening the laptop when a sleep was
already initiated would pause the sleep from happening even if the
laptop was closed again. I was playing with this, opening and closing
the laptop when I noticed some errors. It wasn't recovering, and things
were getting weird, so I decided to reboot... I never did boot off that
ssd again. Luckily, I was able to read ALL the data off the drive, just
couldn't write to it, or boot off it.

So I'm not going to test this. Maybe there is some weird hw bug.
Hopefully me sharing this story provides some kind of useful data point.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1757180] Re: nvidia-prime can't switch off the discrete GPU

2018-04-09 Thread YAFU
Well, I have been able to solve the problem and I am able to use nvidia driver
again. The problem is that nvidia-prime blacklist nvidia driver. The file is
"/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf" with content:
# Do not modify
# This file was generated by nvidia-prime
blacklist nvidia
blacklist nvidia-drm
blacklist nvidia-modeset
alias nvidia off
alias nvidia-drm off
alias nvidia-modeset off

File was never re-established, even when uninstalling/purging nvidia-
prime package. I think that this file should be re-established/deleted
when you uninstall nvidia-prime.

Thanks Alberto and other maintainers for your hard work maintaining
nvidia packages (

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761593] Re: Uninstall left nouveau blacklisted

2018-04-09 Thread Adam Conrad
This is very much a bug in nvidia-graphics-drivers-340. One can debate
if software-properties should or shouldn't purge (though traditionally,
the argument was that silent frontends shouldn't purge because the user
hasn't explicitly asked for that), but if a removed package's unpurged
conffiles cause the system to misbehave, that package needs to be
rethought to avoid that situation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-09 Thread Renaud Lepage
By accident, I upgraded some parts to 390, so I just gave up and tried
to upgrade *all* the packages to 390, instead of having some from
graphics-drivers and some from partner. Lo and behold, I think I'm on
partner-provided drivers now, because everything works on 390.48 and I
have multiple independent packages for the nvidia drivers, instead of
the (simplified) limited number graphics-drivers provides.

No idea if I'm a unique case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1762447] [NEW] System sometimes freezes after startup

2018-04-09 Thread Justus Rajan
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this bug belongs in this section.

System sometimes freezes after startup, but it's still active. I can see
visual changes made around the UI when the cursor is moved, but it's
still very stuttered and unusable. Perhaps some process is using too
much of the hardware (or something similar). This happens occasionally,
at other times it works just fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1762360] [NEW] EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 - nouveau symbol lookup error causes X failure

2018-04-09 Thread Ryan Hoover
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of Ubuntu Studio 18.04 - xorg crashes just after login and
returns to lightdm. Moving to a TTY and attempting to startx returns
the following:

/usr/lib/Xorg: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so: undefined symbol:
exaGetPixmapDriverPrivate

Installing nvidia-driver-390 and rebooting resolves the issue.

apt update && apt full-upgrade performed @ 03:54 EDT (I didn't think to
check which versions the updates were at, as there were something like
145 of them)

GPU:EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Kernel: 4.15.0-13-lowlatency
OS: Ubuntu Studio 18.04 Bionic
CPU:Intel Core i5-4690K @ 3.5GHz

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1746740] Re: XPS13 L322X Bionic (daily dev) touchpad laggy

2018-04-09 Thread seanlano
Yeah I also see the OSD keyboard backlight issue - but I actually have
been seeing that from time to time even in Artful and possibly before. I
assumed it was my hardware playing up, but seems like maybe not. At any
rate, it's not very frequent for me - only a couple of times after boot.
