[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774295] [NEW] Computer becomes slow

2018-05-30 Thread Ivan Pedroso Barreto
Public bug reported:

After 20 - 30 min of use (heavy graphic usage - photos), the system
becomes very slow. Sometimes even in the right click of the mouse the
menu takes a long time to be shown. It disappears if the machine is
rebooted but after 20 - 30 min. it start over again.

PS - It is not a fresh install. I used the upgrade mode in software
update (using LTS 14.04 before). This problem starts after the upgrade.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760104] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV

2018-05-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I had some luck with this not pausing/blinking gnome-shell:

$ sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
$ sudo udevadm trigger --subsystem-nomatch=input
$ sudo udevadm trigger --property-match=ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK=1

Alan, perhaps you can upgrade to core from edge (since it does some
things with ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK) see if you can crash your system by
doing:

$ for i in `seq 1 100` ; do sudo udevadm control --reload-rules ; sudo
udevadm trigger ; done

If you can, please see if this doesn't crash it:

$ for i in `seq 1 100` ; do sudo udevadm control --reload-rules ; sudo
udevadm trigger --subsystem-nomatch=input ; sudo udevadm trigger
--property-match=ID_INPUT_JOYSTICK=1 ; done

If that works, I'll give some thought to updating the udev backend to
only call 'sudo udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input' when absolutely
needed (eg, when install mir, X or wayland snaps).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760104] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV

2018-05-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I noticed I could prevent gnome-shell from blinking/pausing if instead
of 'sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger' I
instead did 'sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger
--subsystem-nomatch=input'. I'm not sure there is much that snapd can do
with that information, but it might be a clue to make gnome-
shell/X11/nvidia to behave better.

1) That is correct. Only rebooting into Windows will trigger the bug when you
go back into Ubuntu. I've tested this just now to confirm it.
2) OK. Will take note.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760104] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV

2018-05-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I suspect this is because snapd will do 'sudo udevadm control --reload-
rules && sudo udevadm trigger' on interface connections. These
operations are supposed to be safe but I've seen with my Intel graphics
that gnome-shell/X11 will blink when this happens (due to the 'udevadm
trigger') but it doesn't crash. I suspect that your particular
combination of gnome-shell/X11/nvidia isn't responding particularly well
when this happens.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774242] Re: Wacom touchscreens should use libinput, not wacom driver

2018-05-30 Thread Shawn Rutledge
I verified that the stylus does still work OK (using the Qt tablet
example which demonstrates pressure-sensitivity etc.) So I think it's
probably OK to remove that stanza completely: there's probably no reason
to use wacom.drv for the touchscreen, just let it fall back to libinput
or evdev, whichever is installed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774265] [NEW] Heavy flicker/flashing on external monitors using resolutions higher than 1920x1080

2018-05-30 Thread Beau Graham
Public bug reported:

Laptop model: Lenovo P51 20HH0011US
OS: Fresh install from USB ‘Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.4 LTS’
Monitors: Dell U2415b at 1920x1200, Asus PB278 at 2560x1440

Expected behavior: We install Ubuntu 16.04.4, plug in additional
monitors and those monitors work at the native resolution.

Actual behavior: This one is going to be hard to describe. But when we plug in
a monitor, that monitor will flicker/flash extremely fast. With both HDMI and
miniDP outputs. Most of the company has two external monitors and when we plug
in a second monitor one or both of the external monitors flickered on 14 of the
15 machines that we tested. We also tested with 20 or so monitors through our
process of trying to isolate the problem. I will leave links of the video that
we took of the issue. From the online preview you cannot tell what the problem
is, but if you download the videos and play them with VLC or something locally,
you should be able to see what we are talking about.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oZQwIf8uaUEytQPQdihIy3eCpVRLe7-T/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eBrfXouqXhddobGHZijM_G4qNIKiLtaI/view?usp=sharing

We have noticed that if we change the resolution down to 1920x1080 the issue
goes away.

The monitors do not flicker on other models of Lenovo’s that we have tried.
They also do not flicker with the same computer but running Windows or on any
macbook that we have tried. The other weird issue is that once the monitor
starts flickering, it stays flickering for about an hour even without a
computer plugged into it or if we plug in a different computer that did not
make that monitor flicker before it was plugged into a P51 running Ubuntu gnome
16.04.4.
Our current workaround is to install Ubuntu MATE 16.04.4 instead of gnome. The
monitors work at native resolutions with MATE.
Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774242] [NEW] Wacom touchscreens should use libinput, not wacom driver

2018-05-30 Thread Shawn Rutledge
Public bug reported:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wacom.conf as shipped, has this:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Wacom touchscreen class"
MatchProduct "Wacom|WACOM|PTK-540WL|ISD-V4"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
MatchIsTouchscreen "true"
Driver "wacom"
EndSection

The result is that on my Yoga 920, in a plain X11 session (running
openbox in my case), the touchscreen acts like a broken mouse: there is
no multi-touch capability in Qt Quick applications, and clicking isn't
quite right either. I also verified it with Peter Hutterer's old cairo-
based mt-touch test program.

I suspect we will get some users mistakenly writing up Qt bugs about
this if you don't ship a fix. (Seems to me that already happened at
least once, actually.)

Yes, the touchscreen is made by Wacom, but wacom_drv.so has historically
been only for Wacom tablets and in-screen stylus digitizers, and IMO
that continues to be the case. libinput is a much better choice of
driver for this hardware (so is evdev for that matter), so I changed it
to Driver "libinput" and got it working. (Wayland uses libinput, so in
a wayland session, touch already works fine in Qt apps on this
hardware.)

I'm one of the Qt Quick maintainers, most concerned with touch handling,
and I've also written some of the Qt xcb code for dealing with XInput
touch and tablet devices. So if you think that there's something wrong
with Qt, such that it should still work anyway to use a wacom driver for
a Wacom touchscreen, let me know. These AES devices are still new to me
(that's why I got a Yoga, to try it out).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768976] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 is overheating after upgrade from 16.04

2018-05-30 Thread Mauro
I have the same heating issue after a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04.
Before that I was using Ubuntu 16.04, without this problem.

Fans are more active than before and the laptop is constantly
overheated, with 70-80 degrees doing nothing but only Chrome or even
with the shell opened.

Nvidia drivers has been removed (I can live with the integrated Intel).
Kworker issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/887793)
already fixed.

This happens on a Samsung 7 Chronos NP700Z7C (CPU i7 3rd gen)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1771204] Re: Horizontal lines on Samsung Laptop np900x3f after Update to 18.04

2018-05-30 Thread Thomas Diesenreiter
Hi there,

I fear that I do not have the time to do such in-depth debugging atm. As I
said, I used the latest kernel with my previous 17.10 install without this
problem, and it occurred with the first kernel of the 18.04 release. I know
that it would be easier for you to know the specific kernel version where the
digression was introduced, but maybe it would be possible to have a look at the
old bug here (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64332) and take a
look at the specific files which got patched back then to find the digression.
I'm just a php coder, so my knowledge about kernel development is too limited
to take a look into it myself.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1773744] Re: Desktop session crash

2018-05-30 Thread Sami Pietila
Hi

1) I did run given commands.

2) I rebooted the machine with three monitors connected. I tried with
both Metacity and Compiz options which had appeared. Trying to log in
resulted crash and returning back to login screen.

3) HP ZR2440, HP 27i, Dell UltraSharp U2515H

4) Monitors are connected with Display port cables. Two of displays are
connected to the integrated intel graphics controller. One display is
connected to Radeon card.

5) No.

6) The 16.04.4 live cd seems to work just fine with my three monitors.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29

2018-05-30 Thread Hans Hansen
I have a variant of this problem that I can not find anywhere else:

I have the same problem of black screen (white cursor not blinking in
the left upper corner) when I do a lock screen!

Suspend problem is also present. Computer goes down correctly after
pressing suspend, but when it is supposed to wake up, I get the above
described screen (NO splash screen, NO message from grub).

I am not sure if I should open a new bug for this

Kernel: 4.15.0-22
OS: Xubuntu bionic
PC: Lenovo P51
GDriver: NVidia proprietry, Lenovo BIOS already set to NOT use CPU internal
graphics

Happy to provide further infos if anybody is interested.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774170] [NEW] Applications block on eglswapBuffers due to buggy mesa version

2018-05-30 Thread Mohamed Sharaf-El-Deen
Public bug reported:

The mesa version that is available after installing packages has a bug
that leads to wayland applications blocking on eglSwapBuffers if egl
swap interval is set to Zero.

Ubuntu version: 18.04 LTS
Currently available mesa version for installation: 18.0.0~rc5

Versions where the bug is fixed:
17.3.8, 18.0.2, 18.1.0, or later

More details about the bug, how to reproduce it and the right mesa versions to
use in here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106719

Would be so good if it is possible to provide one of the mesa versions
where the problem does not exist as a package for installation.

Thanks

Output from running:
apt-cache policy libegl-mesa0

libegl-mesa0:
  Installed: 18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752938] Re: Upgrading Ubuntu 18.04 disables GPU hardware acceleration

2018-05-30 Thread Wladimir J. van der Laan
For me, "apt-get remove libnvidia-gl-390" solved it. No idea how it came
to be installed, but for some reason the active EGL driver was nvidia,
and that interfered with the X start sequence.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen

2018-05-30 Thread Chris Guiver
The time of the Xorg crash file is ~correct for the crash that logged me
out (between 1st & 2nd line in my syslog snippet). I was using XFCE or
Xubuntu-session login (this issue only ever happened with XFCE/Xubuntu
but I can't guarantee it was XFCE the first in list & not Xubuntu-
session; they look & act identical [for me] after login)

the other one (light-locker) I can't recall. Yes I've been testing sleep
(inc. other DEsktops but not at that time (I don't remember, this recall
is from scanning syslog messages). I can see I hand't put my machine to
sleep for some time before or after it, and the next minute opened a
terminal (common behavior), hence don't believe it's related.
