It also needs to apply

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

2019-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. If there's a relevant message in the kernel log then if will be
obvious -- filling it up. Though if you have a full syslog already then
that might contain the answer, so yes please attach it.

2. I guess log in via ssh and stay logged in before the problem starts.

4. We still need to test Wayland as a confirmation that the problem is
confined to Xorg. It's not a matter of Ubuntu not recommending Wayland,
it's to help us triage and understand this bug so it can be assigned to
the right package and communicated clearly to the right upstream
project.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

2019-07-23 Thread Alex Tu
1. When the problem is happening, does the kernel log show any problems?
(run: dmesg)
When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type
command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to
handover this machine to another guy today.

Before that, can you get message you need in syslog? or I can upload
kern.log for your reference.

2. When the problem is happening, what do you get from running these
commands?

   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd | wc -l
   ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd

When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type
command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to
handover this machine to another guy today.

Is there other way to get information you need in next boot? So that I can
provide more on current environment that next boot of issue happened.

3. When the problem is happening, what do you get from:

   ps auxw | grep Xorg

Same response as 2.

4. Please try the same test with "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if it
has the same bug.

This would be my lower priory, the target of my testing is to make sure end
user's experience on LTS.

2019-07-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephan Fabel, could you please advise to all of the following:

1) Has the issue been tested with using the latest DisplayLink driver
(now 5.2.14)?

2) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

3) Would the following WORKAROUND work with your environment following

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V

2019-07-23 Thread Quoc Khanh Le
I experienced the same issue on my Dell XPS 13 (9350) running Kubuntu
18.10 (4.18.0-25-generic), KDE Plasma 5.13.5. My laptop was connected to
the 2nd monitor using the VGA port on the Dell 4-in-1 adapter with the
DisplayLink driver 5.2.14

I followed the comment in this link
(https://github.com/DisplayLink/evdi/issues/29#issuecomment-479529359)
and mannually added /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-displaylink.conf file
with the content below:

Section "Device"
  Identifier "DisplayLink"
  Driver "modesetting"
  Option "PageFlip" "false"
EndSection

After rebooting, the mouse no longer flickers when connecting to the 2nd
monitor using the DisplayLink adapater so it could be a solution for
this problem.

2019-07-23 Thread Timo Aaltonen
You won't be getting it fixed unless someone tells me what's needed from
mesa upstream which is missing from 19.0.8. 19.0.x series is dead and
won't get new upstream versions anymore...

** Package changed: libdrm (Ubuntu) => mesa (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1683383] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen)

2019-07-23 Thread Norbert
Just a silent reminder: I have created a PPA (
https://launchpad.net/~nrbrtx/+archive/ubuntu/xorg-hotkeys ) with
patched packages for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (xenial, with HWE) and upwards
(including upcoming 19.10), use its description for instructions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1837170] Re: Kodi package crash after the update of libdrm-amdgpu1

2019-07-23 Thread Tom Lake
Currently I found that downgrading these packages:

libgl1-mesa-dri_18.2.8-0ubuntu0~18.10.2_amd64.deb
mesa-vdpau-drivers_18.2.8-0ubuntu0~18.10.2_amd64.deb

I can run Kodi with every single Ubuntu package updated, including
libdrm-amdgpu.

**Note: from oibaf's ppa I need only libdrm-amdgpu1 libdrm-common
libdrm2 libgl1-mesa-dri vdpau-driver-all mesa-vdpau-drivers upgraded to
have it running well.

I'll give disco a try, but personally I prefer LTS versions for a more
solid UI experience.

I'll be here, patiently waiting for the next updates to see if I got it
fixed. ;)

Daniel, I understand from your change that you think this bug does not
affect cosmic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005321] Re: Several pointing device related problems occur when a touchscreen is installed

2019-07-23 Thread Brandon Istenes
Is there any way I can add a bounty to this bug? It's been seven years
since it was filed and it makes LibreOffice Calc more or less unusable
for anyone with a touchscreen device.
