[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1839253] Re: Excessive screen tearing and flickering

2019-08-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. The videos seem to show this is a problem with aligning the
entire display image. So it's not traditional "tearing", but I totally
agree that "tearing" and "flickering" is the best description.

Please try logging in to "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if that avoids
the problem.

Please also try installing a newer kernel such as:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.3-rc3/

If the problem still continues then please open a Terminal window and
run:

  dmesg -w

Now do you see any new messages appearing in that window when the
flickering happens?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1839253] Re: Excessive screen tearing and flickering

2019-08-07 Thread Ethan Walker
It's not clear to me how to change the driver to 'modesetting'.

What I did was edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel-graphics.conf
and changed the line:
Driver "intel"
to
Driver "modesetting"
and I didn't see any change.

2019-08-07 Thread Ioann
@Norbert
I have Laptop with 16.04.
And Alt+Shift, Alt+Shift+Tab are working ok.
I have also tested it with new default installation in Virtualbox.
And it also works fine.
And it doesn't matter if i use Mate or Unity.

Apologies, comment #32 is incorrect, this worked a couple times but the
problem is still present intermittently. I have since downgraded to BIOS

Note also the 'intel' driver for Xorg is deprecated. You should be using
the default 'modesetting' driver for the best experience. If you can
then please go back to using that, not 'intel'.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1839174] Re: Xorg crashes in stdio functions under pci_device_vgaarb_set_target() from VGAGet() from VGAarbiterSpriteMoveCursor()

2019-08-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If you want the fix and still want to stick with version 18.04 then you
should get it by installing 18.04.2 instead:

  http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/

Alternatively you can install the HWE packages, but I don't have
instructions prepared for how to do that reliably.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1818816] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS + "lspci: Cannot open /sys/bus No such file" on Dell 5820 Tower

2019-08-07 Thread Jay
Any update on this request. We have more users reporting the issue on
Ubuntu 16.04 UEFI instalallation. As a workaround, we are installing as
Legacy mode.

No issue with 18.04 UEFI.

Kindly fix this.

~~~
Lspci: Error: command ['lspci', '-vvnn'] failed with exit code 1: lspci: Cannot
DELL 5820 Tower Workstation. Please fix this. We have more users using
this model.
