[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-10-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Wolf,

Most likely the staggered rollout of mutter 3.36.6 has not reached you
yet. Just check the version of package libmutter-6-0 you have installed.
If it is 3.36.6 or higher then perhaps open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug mutter

And please open a separate bug for each issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-10-13 Thread Wolf
nvidia 340 driver, GT218M / 3100NVS card on HP 8440p laptop,
System: focal

Have still the "corrupted desktop" problem; changing to "proposed" made
that I could no longer resume from hibernate. With "proposed", screen
would power on back light for a few seconds and then remain dark.

Unticking the "proposed" box with update luckily led to a resuming
system again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-10-13 Thread jbuncle
I had the same issue (with both Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10). It does seem to
be resolved after installing a 5.9 Kernel with the above patch applied
(from @coiby https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg69458.html.

I have scripted the process I used (download, patch, compile and install
the kernel) for anyone else that's eager to get a working Touchpad on a
Ubuntu 20 installation on Lenovo Legion 5 (Obviously there may be
unwanted side effects of doing this). This will probably require Secure
Boot to be disabled in the BIOS.

See GitHub Gist here:
https://gist.github.com/jbuncle/7dacde983b3c33b3b816b10e2fd2308a
Command for convenience: `bash <(curl
https://gist.githubusercontent.com/jbuncle/7dacde983b3c33b3b816b10e2fd2308a/raw/build-patched-kernel.sh)`

Note the need for updating GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT with i2c-
hid.polling_mode=1

(First time I've built the Linux Kernel myself or even commented on
here!)

Thanks to @Coiby Xu (coiby)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1663922] Re: random freeze

2020-10-13 Thread David Aguiar de Aquino
Updating on my side:

When i update to nvidia 450 and reboot, my system starts to freeze.
Most of times i can't even really start the session and have to do a forced
reboot because nothing works, not even using CTRL+ALT+F2.

Go this bug with Kubuntu focal fossa and KDE. Tried with Gnome (with
xorg) and had a similar issue, i did started the session but after some
time it's freezes and i can just move the mouse and nothing else. Having
to force reboot my computer.

I will try some alternatives: Downloading from nvidia website, using 450
server, using 440, using 430 and will update here if some of this
solutions works.

With nouveau i have no issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873052] Re: Showing two cursors after login when fractional scaling is enabled

2020-10-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looks like we might have confused at least two different issues.

For systems using the 'amdgpu' kernel driver, supposedly a fix is coming
in kernels 5.9.0, 5.8.13 & 5.4.69.

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Committed

** Summary changed:

- Showing two cursors after login when fractional scaling is enabled
