[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2064535] [NEW] jammy update from 23.0.4 to 23.2.1 dropped transitional packages

2024-05-01 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

I happened to notice that the bump from 23.0.4 to 23.2.1 in jammy
included a change that dropped a number of transitional packages:

mesa (23.1.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Diederik de Haas ]
  * Drop transitional libegl1-mesa package (Closes: #1032712)
  * Drop transitional libgles2-mesa package (Closes: #1032718)
  * Drop transitional libwayland-egl1-mesa package (Closes: #1032737)
  * Drop transitional libgl1-mesa-glx package (Closes: #1032738)
  * d/README.source: Update git repo location to Salsa

Since I did not see that discussed in the SRU bug 2037604, I thought I'd call
attention to it. No objection to this being closed as Won't Fix.

I don't think this impacts any supported upgrade paths - focal GA'd w/
20.0.4-2ubuntu1 which seems to have already had these transitional
packages in place. This is presumably a practical regression for someone
upgrading an old bionic install straight to jammy but that, of course,
is not supported.

** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2064196] [NEW] Can't change display position to "right of"

2024-04-30 Thread Skrzatu
Public bug reported:

I have two monitors (Iiyama and Philips).
In 22.04 I had two separate pulpits on each monitors.

Currently in "Settings -> Displays" I can set it to "duplicate" or "joined".
joined option is inconvenient because, every window I open is by default in the
center of the gap between two monitors.

I'am able to change it manually via nvidia-settings but it isn't
persistent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2064146] [NEW] Screen shows orange snap to place wrongly

2024-04-29 Thread Antti
Public bug reported:

I have "Active screen edge" -feature enabled.
First bug:
I had 2 instances of transparent orange snap to place appear for no reason in a
strange place.
Second bug:
I have transparent orange snap to place appear twice when trying to snap window
to left, top and right. Bottom appears only once correctly. The animation is
also shown twice. Screen capture is not possible during this window snap so I
took photos on phone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend)

2024-04-29 Thread Philip M
I was able to get something working on my win 11 i9-13900H discrete
RTX2000 laptop.

I used:
mks.enable3d = "TRUE"
mks.enableDX12Renderer = "TRUE"
mks.enableDX11Renderer = "FALSE"
mks.dx12.vendorID = "0x17AA"

and I also had to do:
settings->system->dislay->graphics
entries for both vmware.exe and vmware-vmx.exe (its in a subdirectory)
Both entries specify that vmware must run only on RTX2000 and not the cpu GPU.

Still seeing
MESA: error: ZINK: failed to choose pdev
glx: failed to create drisw screen
but that might be known?
I dont think linux will be stable until you back off mesa to not have that
error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2064017] [NEW] Xserver Display flickers when mouse pointer is inside narrow horizontal range band (kernel related)

2024-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My machine information is following :
HP EliteBook 840 G3
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520]
xrandr -q active mode on laptop display : 1368x768 60.01

Tried using 6.8.8-060808 kernel (instead of the lubuntu 24.04 default shipped
kernel 6.8.0-31), same issue.
Rolling back the kernel to 6.7 fixed the problem,maybe there were some video
driver changes from kernel 6.7 to 6.8 ?

While using the 6.8 kernel I did some experiments:

disabled picom in startup , no effect

Tried changing display resolution, just moves vertical position of band.
(at the above resolution 1368x768 vertical mouse pointer flicker range is
around 640 ( measured running watch -t -n 0.0001 xdotool getmouselocation from
a bash terminal)

Tried moving refresh rate slightly around 60 Hz by creating a new
modeline using cvt tool and adding new mode with xrandr, no effect.

tried connecting external display on laptop VGA port and duplicating
screen and the issue seems to disappear.

tried capturing a video of the desktop using ffmpeg with x11grab, but
it does not show the issue.

I attached a short video of the laptop display flicker I recorded using
my phone

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as during install

2024-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The crash (bug 2062146) is now awkwardly entangled with this bug. It
occurs at the same time as, or usually instead of corruption. Bisected
in Mesa:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/11033#note_2385595

Prior to that regression, I still believe the corruption probably
started around:

https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/commit/8b0ce3683045d93cd365e91a4299f7e9babfc126

If you need a workaround for both issues then the best I have found is
environment:

  WEBKIT_DMABUF_RENDERER_FORCE_SHM=1

2024-04-26 Thread Talha Can Havadar
On Mantic,

I installed the package from mantic-proposed and applied the same steps as I
did in jammy (mentioned in comment #19).
```
ubuntu@kria:~$ apt policy xserver-xorg-core
xserver-xorg-core:
  Installed: 2:21.1.7-3ubuntu2.10
  Candidate: 2:21.1.7-3ubuntu2.10
  Version table:
 *** 2:21.1.7-3ubuntu2.10 100
100 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports mantic-proposed/main arm64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
```

After removing all connected usb devices from the board did a
suspend/resume test and everything is working fine in mantic version of
the package as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in vmware with 3d on (GTK ngl backend)

2024-04-26 Thread Philip M
Also tried virtualbox this morning on a different win 11 machine with an
nvidia laptop gpu and same thing.

No 3D acceleration is not stable on vmware (crashes after a while)
With 3D acceleration black screens really fast on vmware and virtualbox (which
uses the vmware driver by default)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2056331] Re: [SRU] fix suspend/resume when there are no input devices

2024-04-26 Thread Talha Can Havadar
Hello Timo,

On jammy,
```
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Release:22.04
Codename:   jammy
```
I was able to reproduce the issue using old version of the xorg-server
package(2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7~22.04.10), for the ones who are curious about the
bug, first you need to boot the board with keyboard/mouse connected to usb and
display attached and then login as usual. Then remove all usb device and follow
the steps in bug description through tty console.

After enabling -proposed and updating xorg-server packages to
2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7~22.04.11, I followed the same steps to reproduce the bug.

I can confirm that the bug has been fixed with
2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7~22.04.11

Thank you all!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2063501] Re: Sometimes gnome-shell crash upon unlocking session from suspension

2024-04-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as during install

2024-04-24 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
This is one of those first-touch experience items that, since this is
Edubuntu's first foray into the Raspberry Pi experience, I'd rather get
right the first time. Unfortunately, the corruption on the slideshow is
sub-par and looks amateurish for us. So no, this needs to be
reprioritized.

Well, my specific problem might be related to the Thinkpad model:

Suspend works perfectly on my other computers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as during install

2024-04-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as
+ during install.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ 1. Open the default Help app by clicking the question mark icon in the
+ dock or by running 'yelp'.
+
+ 2. Verify it didn't crash and the window contents are not corrupt.
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ The fix is limited to webkit2gtk so can only affect apps such as yelp or
+ the Raspberry Pi installer.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
  During the initial configuration of the Ubuntu Desktop for Raspberry Pi
  (the oem-config process, derived from ubiquity), on the Mantic beta
  images, after the various pages of information have been filled out and
  the process moves onto configuration, the "slide deck" that is usually
  displayed during the process appeared corrupted as if a horizontal
  stride were incorrectly set somewhere.

  I'm attached a photo of the screen (as, while I could take a screenshot
  during the process, it evidently wasn't saved somewhere persistent).

  I originally thought this might be a regression of LP: #1924251 as the
  corruption in the window looks very similar (incorrect horizontal stride
  causing "banding"), but I tested the embedded browser (via the help
  system) after completing setup and it worked perfectly so that's
  *probably* unrelated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2063228] [NEW] screen sometimes blinking

2024-04-23 Thread dom21121
Public bug reported:

My screen sometimes starts flashing strongly. I move the mouse cursor, it
stops. I put the cursor back in its place, it starts again.
I notice this with Firefox because I use it a lot, I don't know if this happens
with other software.
I'm under wayland (xwayland?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2056331] Re: [SRU] fix suspend/resume when there are no input devices

2024-04-23 Thread Lukas Märdian
Thanks! The rebased patches do still apply cleanly and build fine.

- I fixed the Mantic debdiff SRU version "2:21.1.7-3ubuntu3" ->
"2:21.1.7-3ubuntu2.10"
- I fixed the Jammy debdiff d/changelog to reference this bug report

Re-sponsoring for Mantic & Jammy and unsubcribing ~ubuntu-sponsors.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of webkit2gtk apps in X11 on Raspberry Pi, such as during install

2024-04-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The plan is to SRU since the installer is not the only app affected.

It's non-fatal, 23.10 was released with the same bug. But I expect to
have it fixed in time for 24.04.1

** Summary changed:

install

** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of slides during install on Raspberry Pi

2024-04-22 Thread Steve Langasek
This is targeted to 24.04 and marked as 'in progress' but is definitely
not landing before 24.04 GA on Thursday. What is the overall plan here?
should this go to SRU? (It can, but in that case doesn't benefit users
wrt the corruption issue in the *installer* until 24.04.1.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2063143] [NEW] Frequent boot to black display

2024-04-22 Thread theofficialgman
Public bug reported:

Hardware: AMD Framework 13
OS: Ubuntu Noble 24.04
DE: Plasma Wayland
BIOS: version 3.03 and 3.05 (latest new release)
Kernel: 6.8.0-31-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Apr 20 00:40:06 UTC
2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This issue started about 2-3 weeks ago I believe around the time that
Ubuntu updated Noble to linux kernel 6.8 and linux firmware packages.
This issue may not be a kernel regression but instead a wayland
regression but I am not certain and looking for help.

The issue is that on boot the (internal laptop and external displays if
connected) are black but backlight is lit. I am able to boot into
recovery mode without issue since the graphics drivers are not loaded in
that case (only amd framebuffer driver and userspace mesa llvmpipe).
Cold boot from OFF seems to be the most common case for this issue and
it happens about 50-75% of the time from there. I have to force power
the device off and try again in this case. I don't know how to get
proper bootlogs from the previous boot when this is the case since
/var/log only seems to contain logs from the current boot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2062950] Re: RE: Flickering problems on external monitor with HDMI after installing Ubuntu 23.10

2024-04-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Most likely the problem is an HDMI connection
problem. Please try a new HDMI cable if you can. If you can't then
please try temporarily running the external monitor at a lower
resolution to see if the flicker then goes away.

If the flicker still persists then please attach a video of the issue
(recording on a phone is fine).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1788044] Re: task kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds nouveau

2024-04-21 Thread Rick Sayre
I have found a fix.
First I tried adding "nouveau.modeset=0" to bootflags, which got me to boot but
no greeter.
sddm appeared to be happily running but it failed to start the display server
restarting it did not help
"startx" worked, which gave me hope

It appeared the session "seat" had been determined by systemd to have
"CanGraphical" false

Then I found this:
https://github.com/mikhailnov/systemd/commit/c00bf275fdfbad3a9db8934b5e266b6abbdb8443

There's a heuristic hack which sets CanGraphical when the kernel starts
w/o graphics, but only if this is done via "nomodeset" rather than the
driver-specific ".modeset" flags

So I just added "nomodeset" to boot flags, and now not only does
6.5.0-28 boot and land at a working greeter again, but all the weird
sddm graphics bugs i'd been encountering since 6.5 are gone.

Hope this helps someone else... And maybe this kernel issue will get
fixed, some day

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1788044] Re: task kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds nouveau

2024-04-21 Thread Rick Sayre
This is the closest, most recent report I could find with something which also
appears kernel related
Kernel 6.5.0-27  -- works fine
Kernel 6.5.0-28  -- graphics hard-hangs - sddm never displays, vtty can't be
activated
   shh works, sddm and x11 processes can not be killed, reboot hangs, hard
power cycle required

I see reports like this literally for years, yet seemingly no resolution. Now
I'm bit, in a way suspiciously kernel version related
Common internet "use nvidia drivers" wisdom is unworkable as old nvidia
hardware is not supported on 22.04
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation MCP89 [GeForce 320M] (rev
a2)

Again, for me, this is with 22.04, kernel 6.5.0-28

All the various combinations of nouveau flags to kernel boot which have
helped reduce garbage or sddm troubles don't help.

Here's a relevant boot log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2063005] Re: Some shell elements don't respond to touchscreen in Xorg sessions

2024-04-21 Thread theofficialgman
apport information

** Tags added: third-party-packages

** Description changed:

  Starting in GNOME 46 touchscreen input on the X11 session has become
  unusable

  the touchscreen is responsive on the desktop itself (moving the cursor)
  but does not interact with most things

  on GNOME 46 on the current version of Ubuntu Noble, touch input does NOT work
with:
  - On screen keyboard (touch is registered but no keystrokes get input)
  - clicking options in gnome appindicators (indicators can be opened but
clicking any option does nothing)
  - interacting with application overview (cannot press left and right buttons
or search bar)
  - selecting textboxs
  - any of the touch gestures (eg: swipe up from bottom to bringup keyboard)

  All of the above worked just fine on GNOME 45 on Ubuntu Mantic (and
  Ubuntu Noble from March and earlier before it was "upgraded" to GNOME
  46).

  Tested on a fresh image as well as an old image from February running GNOME
45 upgraded to the latest packages with GNOME 46

I've confirmed the issue on multiple devices with touchscreen now
(x86_64 laptop with touchscreen and an ARM64 tablet with touchscreen)

The attached info above is from the x86_64 laptop.
