[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1189230] [NEW] [arrandale mesa] Dell Vostro 3700: GPU hangs after starting Cairo-Dock in OpenGL mode

2013-06-09 Thread Alexander Schlarb
Public bug reported:

When running Cairo-Dock in OpenGL mode, the GPU hangs sometime within the next
1-120s. After a few more seconds all applications using 3D OpenGL graphics
acceleration (including Cairo-Dock) crash with intel_do_flush_locked failed:
Input/Output error. If any of these applications are restart they terminate
with the same error message.
Previously this behaviour could also be triggered by some other application
behaviour (but its all fixed now it seems): High GPU load, Compiz, Google
Gravity WebGL demo running in Firefox, ...
This may also be related to bug #1119793.

Please leave a comment if you need any additional information.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1119793] Re: [arrandale mesa] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x02000000

2013-06-08 Thread Alexander Schlarb
I'm not sure if this is related, but I can still reproduce a GPU hang (which
results in no graphics acceleration and a lot of intel_do_flush_locked failed:
Input/Output error messages terminating programs) by running cairo-dock in
direct OpenGL mode (indirect works fine...).
However, a lot of other things that would previously cause this crash (high GPU
load, cairo-dock in indirect-rendering, Google Gravity demo running in Firefox,
...) now work fine. :-)

2013-03-18 Thread Alexander Schlarb

Public bug reported:

I was just working my was through all the apport-gpu-hang-intel.py
crash reports that happen when the GPU hangs again. This was the only
crash report that did not send me to bug #1119793 so might be a
duplicate, it might also be a duplicate of bug #976489, which I had
reported some time ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156428] [NEW] [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x78080003

2013-03-17 Thread Alexander Schlarb
Public bug reported:

Happend while switching windows. Probably a duplicate of bug #976489 but
I can't tell...

How to produce a similar result:
 * Buy a Dell Vostro 3700
 * Install Ubuntu on it (any recent version)
 * Install cairo-dock (havily uses 3D compositing)
 * Launch cairo-dock in OpenGL mode
 * Collect another bug report

I've reported this issue a year ago, therefore #976489 should probably
be added as a duplicate bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976489] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000000

2012-08-31 Thread Alexander Schlarb
No, having experienced this for several weeks after I reported this bug,
my experience is that this bug is more likely to occur if you have many
different 3D programs open at once. The load and broken queries the more
likely is this bug to occur. Going in powersaving mode greatly speeds up
the process (Sometimes even only 10 seconds after login!).

The following kernel command-line is a working work-around for this problem:
(Not sure which parts do the magic yet)
 i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 i915.i915_enable_fbc=0 i915.semaphores=1 acpi_osi=Linux
pcie_aspm=off

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976489] [NEW] [arrandale] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000000

2012-04-08 Thread Alexander Schlarb
Public bug reported:

This bug seems to happen quite often when using several 3D applications
at the same time if an external monitor was plugged in at some point but
was removed later. I always had GNOME shell, cairo-dock and Minecraft
running while I experienced the lookup.
