*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1479913 ***

My system also doesn't boot because of the driver problem. The boot is
halted somewhere before the login screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1480924] [NEW] fglrx-core 2:15.200-0ubuntu4.1: fglrx-core kernel module failed to build

2015-08-03 Thread Ari Torhamo
Public bug reported:

I changed the graphics card of my computer from Nvidia to Ati. I changed
the driver from proprietary Nvidia to Nouveau before changing the card.
After putting in the Ati card, there were no displaydrivers available in
Additional Drivers. Because of this, I used Software Center to install
fglrx driver. Something seems to have gone wrong with the installation,
because automatic error reporting was triggered. Software Center says
fxlrx is installed.

2014-11-09 Thread Ari
Hey Brian,

thanks for your comment. It's been a while since I've reported this bug.
Luckily I've been able to resolve it by switching over to the open-
source radeon drivers. Haven't had a crash of this sort (or any X.org
crash for that matter) for almost a year now!

You said that switching graphics drivers didn't work for you, but the
open-source radeon drivers have come a long way over the past couple of
years. If you are still experiencing this issue on your WM of choice and
holding out on Cinnamon, I'd recommend giving the FOSS drivers another
try.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236922] Re: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while

2013-10-22 Thread Ari
Because the crashes seem to be caused by libpixman here's some more
information on the revision installed on my system:

$policy libpixman-1-0
libpixman-1-0:
  Installed: 0.24.4-1
  Candidate: 0.24.4-1

I am getting weekly crashes now and I sincerely hope there's a way I can fix
this without having to abandon Synapse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163981] Re: Xorg crashes when maximizing/resizing windows in openbox

2013-10-22 Thread Ari
Janis, any chance you have been able to find a workaround/fix in the
meantime? The crashes have gotten more frequent for me and it's now at a
point where I am considering dropping Synapse for good (which I would
hate to do).

I tried uploading my stack traces to launchpad but unfortunately apport
didn't give me the option to add them to an existing bug report so I had
to open a new one:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163981] Re: Xorg crashes when maximizing/resizing windows in openbox

2013-10-22 Thread Ari
On a second thought, this bug is likely unrelated to the one I am
experiencing. I don't have any crashes with applications other than
Synapse and your problem seems to be identical to the one described in
the following bug reports:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openbox/+bug/997212
https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5460

Please note that the bug has been fixed in the latest openbox releases.

I hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163981] Re: Xorg crashes when maximizing/resizing windows in openbox

2013-08-24 Thread Ari
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS with openbox 3.5.0-7
installed.

For me this bug is most often triggered either by resizing a window or
expanding the list view in Synapse launcher.

Attached to this comment are 4 Xorg backtraces.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191563] Re: xserver-xorg-lts-raring cannot be installed due to unresolvable dependencies

2013-08-24 Thread Ari
I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (originally 12.04.1, then
upgraded to Quantal HWE). The workaround in #2 worked for me but during
installation I encountered some errors which had the following form:

  ...
ERRORS: clementine depends on libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1; however:
  Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
  Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1-mesa-glx
is not installed.
Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is to
be removed.
  Package libgl1 is not installed.
Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1 is not
installed.
Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1 is to be
removed.
 compiz-plugins-main-default depends on libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1; however:
  Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
  Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1-mesa-glx
is not installed.
Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is to

Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1 is not
installed.
Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1 is to be
removed.

Fortunately when the installation completed these dependency were
resolved on their own.

This is the second time I encounter serious dependency issues while
trying to install a hardware enablement stack. (previous issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-lts-
quantal/+bug/1125413). I sincerely hope that these problems will be
fixed by the next HWE release cycle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 939858] Re: Switch user does not work

2012-03-20 Thread ari e
I am using a single-monitor 1280x1024 setup with a 256M FireGL V3700,
and a similar issue is exhibited (differing only in log output). I have
successfully used a dual-monitor setup with this card where _both_
monitors had higher resolution than this one; I agree that this is not
likely to be caused by a lack of sufficient memory to start an X server.

The issue remains when no compositing manager is running, and on a
system that has been booted recently.

Logs:

(==) Log file: /var/log/Xorg.1.log, Time: Tue Mar 20 05:52:50 2012

me afterJune 2009 concerning this bug report. I don't currently have an
access to the computer which the report is about. That may change later,
and in that case I will update this report. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422780] Re: nvidia settings ignored on reboot.

2009-10-12 Thread Ari Torhamo
I have two systems with the Nvidia 185 driver installed, and both have
this problem of settings disappearing, when done with the supplied
Nvidia display configuration tool. The problem is nothing new - I
remember having it in a couple of previous Ubuntu versions.

The settings indeed stay when I use the regular display configuration
tool. That isn't free of problems either, though. The available refresh
rates aren't normal: 64, 63, 62, 61, 60 and 59 Hz. Those aren't real,
however. When I choose the smallest one, I actually get 90 Hz (which is
good for my CRT monitor). The largest, 64 Hz actually gives 65 Hz. Many
users probably will try the largest number (if they aren't already
scared away when they see the strange numbers) and then give up. But I
think I'll make a separate bug report of this issue.

Hardware involved:
Graphics cards Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT and Nvidia Geforce GTX 275
CRT monitors Hitachi CM823F 21 and another one of 19

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 450000] [NEW] [Karmic] Available refresh rates named wrong in display settings

2009-10-12 Thread Ari Torhamo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Driver: Nvidia 185
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT, Nvidia Geforce GTX 275
Monitor: Hitachi CM823F 21 CRT, 19 CRT

Expected behaviour:
Open the regular display configuration tool (not the one supplied by Nvidia)
and have reasonable refresh rate options available for my monitor, which can
handle 90 Hz @ 1600x1200. Typical options might be something like 90, 85, 75,
70, 65 and 60 Hz. Also expect the selected refresh rate and the one the monitor
is using to be the same.

What happened:
Opened the regular display configuration tool, and found that available refresh
rate options were seemingly very low. When I actually tried them, the refresh
rates were different from what the numbers suggested. Here are the presented
numbers on the left column and the actual refresh rates on the right:

64 60
63 65
62 70
61 75
60 85
59 90

Steps to repeat:
 - Go to System - Settings - Display
 - In Display Settings, open the drop-down list
 - Observe the available refresh rate options. If the bug manifests, they are
too small.
 - Compare the selected refresh rate with the actual refresh rate of your
monitor. If the bug manifests, they are not the same and the rate goes smaller
when you choose a larger one.

same way and as quickly.
Slower AGPModes (2, 1) are rejected by the driver with this card.

With:
---
Section Device
   Option BusType PCI
   Option AGPMode 1
EndSection
---
the crash stays essentially the same, maybe it lives longer for a second or two.

The above were repeated with Devie/Monitor/Screen sections added so that
'Virtual 1920 1080' can be defined; the driver defaults to:
---
(II) RADEON(0): Max desktop size set to 2560x1200
(II) RADEON(0): For a larger or smaller max desktop size, add a Virtual line to
your xorg.conf
(II) RADEON(0): If you are having trouble with 3D, reduce the desktop size by
adjusting the Virtual line to your xorg.conf
---
Adjusting the Virtual size makes no difference, still crashes.

I think I'm just going to give up since the user of this machine has
previously used IceWM environment and is not actually expecting any
3D...after switching over to GNOME it was just easy experiment with nice
3D screensavers... I've left the xorg.conf at 'Disable dri' so for
example the screensaver modules still work, albeit slowly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374831] Re: Jaunty locks up

2009-09-24 Thread Ari Mujunen
We have exactly the same kind of ATI board (01:00.0 VGA compatible
controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]) which we can
quite reliably and quickly crash in Jaunty by just taking Preferences /
Screensaver and with Preview previewing some 3D-intensive
screensavers; SkyRocket seems one of the quickest to kill the machine
and turn off DVI signal to the LCD monitor.

We will experiment with 'Option NoAccel / DRI false /
RenderAccel' and with 'Disable glx' but I'm suspecting that
disabling anything which prevents screensavers from using OpenGL with
direct rendering is going to help...
