[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1311569] [NEW] in ubuntu 14.04 xkbcomp has no compat/default file

2014-04-23 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

xkb-data 2.5.1-3ubuntu2 (as provided by ubuntu 13.10) had file
/usr/share/X11/xkb/compat/default.

The file is not provided in xkb-data 2.10.1-1ubuntu1 (ubuntu 14.04).
This breaks xkbcomp loading of custom keymap:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious "*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle" messages in dmesg when using compiz

2013-06-18 Thread Arie Skliarouk
On Lenovo g570 ubuntu 12.10 worked perfectly.

After upgrade to 13.04 X-Windows started locking up (only the mouse
cursor was reacting to mouse movements, but nothing else). The lockup
occurs after couple of minutes working in gnome-classic-fallback window
manager, no 3D activity was done at the time (at least intentionally).
The X lockup is accompanied by messages like these in dmesg (every
second or so):

[ 533.963858] [drm:i915_hangcheck_ring_idle] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... render ring idle [waiting on 25899, at 25898], missed IRQ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072148] Re: Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card

2012-11-13 Thread Arie Skliarouk
During my experiments with kernel 3.2.0, the xorg also crashed. I had to
disable X11 acceleration for 3.2.0 kernel to work.
Same story with kernel 3.5.0. This means that I erred on comment #2 where I
claimed that simple reversal to 3.2.0 fixed the problem. Apparently I forgot to
mention that somewhere inbetween I disabled X11 acceleration.

For what it worth, I tested the 3.7.0-030700rc2-generic kernel and found
that it behaves the same way as the 3.2.0 and 3.5.0 kernels - e.g. there
is no difference between them (from the bug's perspective).

Before upgrade to ubuntu 12.10, both kernel (3.0.0 I guess) and
X11+acceleration worked properly.

I will update the bug's title to represent the fact.

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-sis (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card
+ Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card when acceleration is on

Looks like the bug is related to FB modesetting done by linux-
image-3.5.0-18-generic kernel. I rebooted into 3.2.0-30-generic and the
resolution became correct.

Reassign the bug the the linux-image kernel package please.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073876] [NEW] 1680x1050 resolution has wrong clock value?

2012-11-01 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Under ubuntu 12.04, the 1680x1050 mode worked perfectly on my Asus VW222s LCD
screen.
VGA card: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller
(rev 10)

After upgrade to 12.10, the resolution appears chopped on the right, I
can't see about 300 pixels. While tweaking monitor's OSD settings I
found setting "Clock" that was at 50. When reduced to 0, I gained about
150 more pixels, but the rest of the pixels are still not visible.

Affects me too (Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile
(GT2), comes with a Lenovo G570 laptop).

The "BUG..." happens occasionally, when I disable external VGA screen,

2012-05-30 Thread Arie Skliarouk
I installed ubuntu 12.04 on a "AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+" machine.
Kernel 3.2.0-24-generic-pae.
No X was installed. I still have (harmless?) occasional "general protection
fault". The machine also got locked up completely once or two.

See the attached dmesg for the details.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990914] Re: segmentation fault when running xkbcomp

2012-05-23 Thread Arie Skliarouk
>From http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/Documentation/ServerDebugging:

Likewise, some gdb versions crash when starting the X server when
attempting to run xkbcomp. This is, amazingly enough, a bug in the
kernel's DRM code for suppressing some signals; it should be fixed in
2.6.28 if not earlier. You can disable XKB by passing the -kb option on
the server's command line; obviously if you're trying to debug XKB this
may cause you some problems and you're probably better off attaching gdb
to a running X instead. Alternatively, disable DRI, but again, if DRI is
the thing you're trying to debug, that won't help.

The card works properly with the same LCD on other resolutions:
1400x1050, 1600x1200, 1680x1200...

It just the native resolution of the LCD (1680x1050 16:9) that does not
work properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 920936] [NEW] SiS 65x/M650/740 works strangely on high resolution

2012-01-24 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

SiS 65x/M650/740 VGA adapter works strangely on high resolution.

The 1680x1050 LCD monitor is connected using DVI cable. It works properly on
1280x960 resolution.
If I choose 1680x1050, weird things happen:
 * mouse pointer disappears at certain screen areas and becomes visible on
other ones
 * The mouse pointer can not reach the most topmost pixels and stops in 5 mm
from there. Somehow clicks works properly even if the mouse pointer appears not
to be there

This is on ubuntu oneiric 11.10 i386.
# dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg-video-sis
ii xserver-xorg-video-sis 1:0.10.3-3
   X.Org X server -- SiS display driver

The card is allocated 32MB of memory (from the BIOS).

Attached to the bug the /var/log/Xorg.log.0 file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777020] [NEW] Disabling LCD disables the HDMI monitor too

2011-05-04 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The laptop Dell Studio 1569
(http://www.linlap.com/wiki/dell+studio+1569) has "VGA compatible
controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics
Controller (rev 12)" VGA card. If I use both LCD and external HDMI-
connected monitor (in panorama mode) - both LCD and the HDMI screen work
properly.

If I disable the LCD (Administration->Monitors->Select LCD->Select
"Off"->press Apply), then *both* LCD and HDMI monitor become black! VNC
session to the laptop from a different machine shows everything as if
the LCD was disabled and the HDMI became my primary desktop.

The feature worked in maverick and stopped working in natty.

external HDMI-connected monitor (in panorama mode) - both LCD and the
HDMI screen work properly.

If I disable the LCD (Administration->Monitors->Select LCD->Select
"Off"->press Apply), then *both* LCD and HDMI monitor become black! VNC
session to the laptop from a different machine shows everything as if
the LCD was disabled and the HDMI became my primary desktop.

The feature worked in maverick and stopped working in natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566542] [NEW] totem player on xserver-xephyr does not redraw damaged areas

2010-04-19 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xephyr

I use xserver-xephyr for multiseat environment on top of ATI Radeon
X300SE card. The system is ubuntu 9.10 amd64 with gdm pinned to version
2.20.10-0ubuntu2.

Builtin video player totem is barely acceptable for use, as it does not
redraw damaged (by mouse) screen areas during playback. We have to be
extremely careful not to touch the mouse during playback, as each mouse
movement causes black squares to appear on mouse path. The black squares
are then never redrawn unless I switch to full screen from windowed mode
or switch from full screen to windowed mode. The problem appears in both
windowed mode and full screen mode.

Probably related problem is that pressing "F11" to switch to full-screen
mode results in garbage screen, whereas using View->fullscreen mode
button from the menu - works.

Other video players (xine, mplayer) apparently use different video
output mode as they don't have such problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351251] Re: Jaunty Gimp running inside Xephyr causes a Segmentation fault

2010-02-10 Thread Arie Skliarouk
As I wrote on 2009-10-04, the bug does not happen on karmic. Gimp works
perfectly, without crashes.
Consider to close the bug and reopen it should the problem reappear.

For some reason the first time I run gimp, it takes about a minute to start
(the logo appears and gets stuck).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 311076] Re: hang on BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc

2009-09-04 Thread Arie Skliarouk
About a week ago I did exactly that (Installed xserver-xorg-core package
from karmic on jaunty) and I had no failures since then.

In my case failures also happened when I was using VMWare player, but I
am not sure it did not happen when I was not.
