[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1939211] [NEW] Screen flickering after upgrading from 5.8 kernel to 5.11 kernel
Public bug reported: Hello! After the upgrade to the 5.8 series kernel to the 5.11 series kernel, I have noticed some screen flickering. I had the same problem previously on Fedora after upgrading to the 5.0 series kernel, but this was not present on Ubuntu 20.04 on either the 5.4 or 5.8 series kernels. On Fedora, it was fixed by turning off panel self-refresh on my Dell XPS 13 9380. I can try that again here if you all think it would be a useful piece of information. In the Fedora bug, it was reported that this problem is fixed in the 5.13 kernel. Let me know whatever else I can do. Thanks! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1904924] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: Sounds like a fairly common problem according to [this page](https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze): my display freezes, and while I'm still able to move the mouse around, I can't successfully click or type at any windows. It takes about 30 seconds for gnome-shell to restart, and then the clock starts running (and the system monitor starts updating) again. This problem has been bugging me for a few months now, but I'm not sure when it started. It tends to happen in clumps; sometimes it will go several days without happening, but once it starts it often happens twice pretty quickly, and often a few times across a day. I haven't been able to isolate what causes it, but more often than not it has something to do with clicking on a window or tab in Chrome. (It definitely also happens in other applications, though.) Every time it happens, dmesg contains a stack dump for gnome-shell ("page allocation failure"). I can provide gists of these dumps if that's helpful (and not already included in the apport data). So I'm not sure if this is actually an xorg thing or a gnome-shell thing. % lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.10 Release:20.10 % dpkg -l xorg* gnome-shell* | grep '^ii' ii gnome-shell 3.38.1-1ubuntu1.1 amd64graphical shell for the GNOME desktop ii gnome-shell-common 3.38.1-1ubuntu1.1 all common files for the GNOME graphical shell ii gnome-shell-extension-appindicator 34-1 all AppIndicator/KStatusNotifierItem support for GNOME Shell ii gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons 20.04.0+git20200908-1 all desktop icon support for GNOME Shell ii gnome-shell-extension-prefs 3.38.1-1ubuntu1.1 amd64tool to enable / disable GNOME Shell extensions ii gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor 38+git20200414-32cc79e-1 all Display system information in GNOME Shell status bar ii gnome-shell-extension-system76-power 2.0.0~1602857239~20.10~914b531~dev all Gnome-shell extension for System76 Power Management ii gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock68ubuntu20.10.1 all Ubuntu Dock for GNOME Shell ii gnome-shell-extensions 3.38.1-1 all Extensions to extend functionality of GNOME Shell ii xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu15 amd64X.Org X Window System ii xorg-docs-core 1:1.7.1-1.1 all Core documentation for the X.org X Window System ii xorg-sgml-doctools 1:1.11-1 all Common tools for building X.Org SGML documentation ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu15 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.8.0-7630.32~1605108806~20.10~7e52b13~dev-generic 5.8.17 Uname: Linux 5.8.0-7630-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/capabilities/gpu0' .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/capabilities/mig' .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 455.38 Thu Oct 22 06:06:59 UTC 2020 GCC version: gcc version 10.2.0 (Ubuntu 10.2.0-13ubuntu1) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu50.1 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Nov 19 15:05:17 2020 DistUpgraded: 2020-11-16 10:15:57,099 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: groovy DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 3GB] [10de:1c02] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: eVga.com. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
Nicolas -- I've seen the R7000 Chinese post (https://www.cnblogs.com/mikeguan/p/13126497.html), and what it basically entails is blacklisting hid_multitouch (or disabling it in the kernel and recompiling), which according to other forums seems to have an effect on some touchpads, but has no effect on the MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 touchpad we have. I attempted his suggestions anyways, and saw the same lack of results -- the touchpad remained dead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887190 Title: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1887190/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1791981] Re: X Server session crash for "No space left on device"
This is happening to me right now (On Ubuntu 19.10, kernel 5.3.0 and 5.3.9, nvidia drivers version 435 and 440) It only happens when using nvidia GPU. If I prime-select my intel GPU then there is no issue. It seems related to the laptop display being on some internal display port that gets disconnected when the lid is closed. If I type 'systemctl suspend' before closing my lid everything works fine when I open. I suspect this is actually a bug in nvidia drivers and not in xorg- server -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791981 Title: X Server session crash for "No space left on device" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1791981/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1434351] Re: X fonts and widgets disappear after suspend/resume cycle
I think I recently worked around this on Xubuntu (Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS) by removing all xscreensaver remnants (which I believe to be conflicting with Light Locker). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1658408] [NEW] XInput property "Device Accel Constant Deceleration" applied inconsistently, if at all
Public bug reported: Changing this value will more often than not have zero effect on the cursor's behavior. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1658250] [NEW] Window positions change in nonsensical ways when a secondary display is moved above the primary
Public bug reported: Most commonly, they'll be partway on the upper monitor, but mostly on the bottom. But sometimes, they'll be halfway off the screen on the bottom monitor. New windows are sometimes created in slightly odd places as well; usually, the titlebar will be on the top screen and the rest of the window on the bottom, meaning the gnome-shell bar is obscuring part of the window. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1634802] Re: Could not insert module
Apparently, there was a nvidia-304-304.134 release in the past week. I still had to uncomment the "#PATCH[1]="buildfix_kernel_4.3.patch" line in dkms.conf and run 'dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-304' to get rid of the mtrr-add and mtrr-del references so it would load, but the speed problem that others have noted appears to have been dealt with. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507676] Re: Nvidia-Prime not switching from intel to nvidia leading to a black screen
I have a system with intel graphics and nvidia k2100m. I was running nvidia-358 and nvidia-prime. I updated to the newest intel drivers yesterday and now on boot I get an error about my xorg.conf being incorrect. If I uninstall nvidia entirely everything boots just fine (i can use nouveau and intel still). I tracked that down to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu- drivers-common/+bug/1419507 which apparently people thought the issue was related to gpu-manager but Alberto Milone says is related to xserver-xorg-video-intel which led me to this bug. I am not sure if my bug is exactly the same cause or not but I am willing to do anything to help figure this out... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work
I'm hitting this on Ubuntu 14.10 as well. Out of the box, the left button generates button 4 events, the right button generates button 5 events, and the middle button generates nothing at all. The situation improves a little bit by setting UpDownScrolling=0 ("synclient UpDownScrolling=0"), after which the left button generates a double left click and the right button generates a button 2 event. However, both buttons generates the press _and_release events right away - and no event is generated when the physical button is released. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414930 Title: Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1414930/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
Sorry for the long delay response. I just tested the 3.16.0-28 kernel and unfortunately it doesn't even detect all of my displays correctly -- it only shows 1 external monitor in the display settings rather than both. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1405300] [NEW] Tri-Monitor Mouse Flickering in 14.10, not working at all in 14.04
Public bug reported: I have a tri-monitor setup, two monitors going off of a GPU (Nvidia GTX 650 TI Boost Edition, MSI version so overclocked) and the third going off of Integrated Graphics on my 4670k intel CPU. On the two monitors using the GPU, the mouse has terrible flashing and flickering, and sometimes it sometimes completely disappears. However, on the monitor using the Intel Integrated graphics, it works fine and I have no problems. I've done some testing, and on 14.04 the entirety of X server works for a bit, then crashes completely after a few minutes (sometimes gives GPU lockup errors after waiting for a while). On 14.10 it is stable enough to use, but the mouse flickers terribly like I just talked about. This same problem has been mentioned here (http://askubuntu.com/questions/450655/mouse-flickering-on-one-of-my- two-screens). The proprietary Nvidia drivers aren't exactly an option at the moment, as they won't allow me to use the intel GPU for the third monitor. Some research I've done seems to indicate it's a bug in X server or the Nouveau drivers. My xrandr output is included in the attachment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
3.17 functions almost 100% correct. I'm able to use both external displays again, and Ubuntu can see them after unplugging/plugging in, and after suspend/wake. The only issue is that I sometimes have to disable and re-enable the monitors to get a picture back after plugging back in or waking back up. The driver seems to know that they are there, but the picture is not always shown until I turn them off, apply, and then back on again in the control center. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104230 Title: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1104230/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I've got that in progress. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver
Sorry about that. 3.16.0-26.34hf73386v20141126b1 is much improved. I'm able to set modes on my external monitors now, but whether or not they work is somewhat inconsistent. For example, right now my configuration is like this: http://people.mozilla.org/~bhearsum/sattap/ae5e1315.png, but the yellow vertical monitor has no picture. If I fiddle with settings, move monitors, I get different results. The built in always works, but one of the external monitors almost always doesn't. All 3 were active at one point, but in a very wrong configuration. There's also some other weirdness like the rotation on the green monitor not always matching what's shown in the display settings. I'm on 14.10 with: * Lenovo T440s (00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b)) * 2 Dell U2413 displays with DP 1.2 enabled. * Kernel: 3.16.0-25-generic #33hf73386v20141106b1-Ubuntu SMP * Driver: ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.916+git20141112.f9f85b88-0ubuntu0sarvatt amd64X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver Both monitors shows up in unity-control-center's Display section, but when I attempt to enable either of them, the displays flash, and then I get "The selected configuration for displays could not be applied: could not set the configuration for CRTC 64". [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1234260] Re: Package and use 'intel_l3_parity' binary
To possibly clear up any confusion - the i915 driver will generate uevents (see the tool's udev listener for an example). These events are signs of parity errors in a specific part of the GPU's L3 cache. The tool itself allows remapping these bad locations. At a high level, it could work like: 1. HW detects paritity error, generates interrupt. 2. Kernel reports the uevent 3. udev rule receives the uevent, and information about the bad location (row, bank, subbank, slice). 4. udev either directly, or indirectly invokes intel_l3_parity to remap (disable; poorly named, I am sorry) that part of the cache. Please let me know if people still have confusion. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to intel-gpu-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234260 Title: Package and use 'intel_l3_parity' binary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1234260/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
