[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work

2015-02-05 Thread Ben Hearsum
I'm hitting this on Ubuntu 14.10 as well. Out of the box, the left
button generates button 4 events, the right button generates button 5
events, and the middle button generates nothing at all.

The situation improves a little bit by setting UpDownScrolling=0
(synclient UpDownScrolling=0), after which the left button generates a
double left click and the right button generates a button 2 event.
However, both buttons generates the press _and_release events right away
- and no event is generated when the physical button is released.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2015-01-13 Thread Ben Hearsum
For what it's worth, this kernel seems to be working 100% fine for my set-up:
Linux dib 3.17.1-031701-generic #201410150735 SMP Wed Oct 15 11:36:31 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

When my laptop woke this morning, both external displays came back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2015-01-05 Thread Ben Hearsum
Sorry for the long delay response. I just tested the 3.16.0-28 kernel
and unfortunately it doesn't even detect all of my displays correctly --
it only shows 1 external monitor in the display settings rather than
both. I get picture on both of them, but I can't set them up correctly
any more.

2014-12-11 Thread Ben Hearsum
One thing that I've noticed recently is that I can't unplug and then
plug back into my monitors without a reboot. This also means that I
can't suspend and resume without losing the external monitors. I'm not
sure if this issue belongs in here or elsewhere.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-12-11 Thread Ben Hearsum
I've got that in progress. In the meantime, I realized there was a newer
kernel+driver from yours and the xorg-edgers PPAs, so I did that upgrade, and
now unity-control-center only sees one external monitor, with the second being
treated as a mirror of the first. This is using:
3.16.0-28-generic
xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.99.916+git20141210.04a09d35-0ubuntu0sarvatt

Here's some drm.debug logspam which may or may not be useful.

I'm in the process of updating to the mainline 3.17 - I'll report back soon
with results.

2014-12-11 Thread Ben Hearsum
3.17 functions almost 100% correct. I'm able to use both external
displays again, and Ubuntu can see them after unplugging/plugging in,
and after suspend/wake. The only issue is that I sometimes have to
disable and re-enable the monitors to get a picture back after plugging
back in or waking back up. The driver seems to know that they are there,
but the picture is not always shown until I turn them off, apply, and
then back on again in the control center.

2014-11-26 Thread Ben Hearsum
Sorry about that. 3.16.0-26.34hf73386v20141126b1 is much improved. I'm
able to set modes on my external monitors now, but whether or not they
work is somewhat inconsistent. For example, right now my configuration
is like this: http://people.mozilla.org/~bhearsum/sattap/ae5e1315.png,
but the yellow vertical monitor has no picture. If I fiddle with
settings, move monitors, I get different results. The built in always
works, but one of the external monitors almost always doesn't. All 3
were active at one point, but in a very wrong configuration. There's
also some other weirdness like the rotation on the green monitor not
always matching what's shown in the display settings. I'll attach a log
from an attempt at configuring things as I'd like them.

Something else interesting that I just noticed is that while the 3rd monitor
has no image, it's there as far as X is concerned. Eg, I can mouse over to it,
I can move windows to it with my window manager's shortcuts.

One final thing: the display that is on is consistent. When I logged out
of my normal window manager (awesome) and switched to Unity, the yellow
monitor turned on and the green one turned off. Even after logging back
into awesome, this state persisted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2014-11-26 Thread Ben Hearsum
Apologies for the spam, but I just fixed it. Turns out my video adapter
was only set to 256MB. Changing it to 512MB in the BIOS has all three
monitors working consistently \o/.

Thanks so much Dariusz, it's great to have this set-up going finally!

The Freedesktop bug that I filed got closed, saying my crash is most
likely a bug in the Ubuntu backport.

I happened to notice a new xserver-xorg-video-intel package was
published yesterday (2:2.99.916+git20141119.a90cc3b3-0ubuntu0sarvatt). I
tried it and still have the same crash.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 888134] [NEW] automatic detection of plugged in / removed monitor is too aggressive

2011-11-09 Thread Ben Hearsum
Public bug reported:

I've found that the monitor detection in Ubuntu 11.10 is too aggressive.
Sometimes it will get things wrong, and when I try to fix it with the GNOME
Control Center, it automatically reverts back to what it thinks is correct. My
configuration is as follows:
* Nouveau Driver
* GDM
* Awesome WM

The problem occurs with both the VGA and DVI ports. I can use xrandr to
make changes without them getting reverted.

That does indeed look similar. I definitely feel the other kinetic
scrolling symptom, too: events persisting after I lift my fingers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781143] Re: two finger scroll event should end when fingers are lifted from touchpad

2011-05-16 Thread Ben Hearsum
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 natty running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

For awhile now (including in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04), I've experienced
an issue with scroll events initiated on my Touchpad. Steps to reproduce
are: 1) Open Firefox 2) Start a vertical scroll event on Touchpad (two-
finger scroll, in my case) 3) Remove fingers from Touchpad 4) Quickly
  hit ctrl

The results are that Firefox will start zooming in or zooming out the
page. I also experience this if I start a scroll event and quickly
switch to a different workspace -- where my Terminal will start
scrolling up or down. I would expect that the scroll event would die
when I remove my fingers from the Touchpad, and probably when a meta key
  gets hit, too.

I'm on a Thinkpad W510 on Ubuntu 11.04 using Unity. Here's all the info I can
find on my Touchpad:
