[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1830961] Re: Kernels & kernel drivers fail to build with gcc-9 [error: ‘-mindirect-branch’ and ‘-fcf-protection’ are not compatible]

2019-09-12 Thread Christoph Reiter
Just for the record, this still breaks upgrades from 19.04 (I updated
today) because dkms tries to build things (nvidia and virtualbox here)
for the 19.04 kernel and fails.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655752] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count()

2017-06-29 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner
Ok, so I downgraded from 0.19.0-1 which I had manually installed from
yakkety, and installed 0.18.0-1ubuntu0.1 from xenial-proposed. I tried
one clear test so far, and it did not crash. It also seemed to log in
from wake up quite a bit faster. It would usually hang for a while
after I entered my password.

Thanks so much! If I encounter the problem again, I'll report back.

2017-06-28 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner
I now know how to reproduce this everytime:

* put my laptop to sleep/suspend
* wake it up
* before doing anything, plug in my USB mouse

If I plug in the USB mouse any time between wake up and logging into
lightdm, I get this crash. Every time without fail.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655752] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in libinput_device_config_tap_get_finger_count()

2017-05-09 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner
I'm getting this same crash on ElementaryOS Loki (based on Ubuntu 16.04)
with light-locker 1.7.0-2ubuntu1 and xserver-xorg-input-libinput
0.18.0-1. It is on a Dell m3800 with dual Intel/nVidia graphics setup
with bumblebee and nouveau. I'm pretty sure it happens when I put the
laptop to sleep with the external mouse plugged in, then I wake up the
laptop without that mouse plugged in. I happens right after I log into
the lock screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1434351] Re: X fonts and widgets disappear after suspend/resume cycle

2016-05-01 Thread Christoph Ra
Oh dear, I didn't think apport-collect would submit more than just an
attachment. For what it's worth, the bug wasn't in effect while doing
that, I had to read the menus. Same situation as above - Intel video,
Xubuntu, only for me the bug appeared only after updating to 16.04.

General system information & a screenshot are attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1434341] Re: Intel HD5500: No video after suspend/resume cycle

2015-03-20 Thread Christoph
Same for me: suspend / resume worked in Trusty (with
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.99.910-0ubuntu1)
In Ubuntu Vivid (with xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.99.917-1~exp1ubuntu2build1)
it is broken.
Same behavior - screen stays black and I cannot switch to text console neither.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1425891] [NEW] Xorg radeon freezes if firefix loads big images

2015-02-26 Thread Christoph
Public bug reported:

If I open each of this URLs

http://canon-premium.webcdn.stream.ne.jp/www09/canon-premium/eosd/samples/eos5dsr/downloads/02.jpg
http://canon-premium.webcdn.stream.ne.jp/www09/canon-premium/eosd/samples/eos5ds/downloads/02.jpg

in a firefox 36.0 on a Xorg Server of 1.15.1 with a R9 270 and a Ubuntu
14.04.1 AMD64 the desktop freezes. I can only move the mouse pointer,
although the the login via SSH is still possible and works fine. By
restarting the Xorg Server I can gain control over the local terminal
again.

This happens with the radeon driver, but not with the fglrx driver. The
problem did not manifest itself with other applications.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1405841] [NEW] Xorg freezes after a few hours running

2014-12-26 Thread Lupe Christoph
Public bug reported:

Apologies if I failed to find a variant of this type of bug that relates
to my problem. There are too many hits to this Xorg error in Google.

Xorg sort of freezes after some time running, even when unused. The
mouse cursor moves, but there is not reaction to clicking, or to the
keyboard. This correlates with the error in the Xorg.0.log:

(EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing
events are processed.
(Full log attached.)

No input events are processed.

The hardware has been running various Ubuntu releases without change,
right now I'm very unsure when I last upgraded the box. The Trusty -
Utopic upgrade went awry, at least partly because it did not tell me in
advance that my root filesystem was too small at 12 GB. (/var, /tmp etc
are separate filesystems.)

So I did a fresh install and that is the one freezing. Note that it is
only the Xorg server freezing, I can SSH in and reboot. Restarting
lightdm does not cure the problem, so I believe something inside the
kernel is stuck.

Right, I'm using Mint 16 XFCE which is based on Ubuntu 13.10 AFAIK.

You say that with a recent Linux Mint you also see the problem.
I'd like to note that I have switched from Xubuntu to Linux Mint XFCE recently
and have *NOT* had a single standby/resume problem since. (This bug is so
serious that Xubuntu 14.04 was no longer an option for serious work on my work
laptop.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1248793] [NEW] trackpad always right-clicks when single clicking the lower right side

2013-11-06 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner
Public bug reported:

Running on a Samsung Chromebook 5 installed with chrubuntu and upgraded
from precise all the way to saucy. The trackpad works fine, except the
lower right edge always make a right-click even if single clicked. I

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232123] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-10-06 Thread Christoph
That command was accepted without error. I restarted lightdm (and later
the machine, too) and face now the following: The login screen attempts
and I enter my password for my user from 13.04. Then, for half a second
the screen is black and the login screen attempts again.

For my clean user, I also did the dconf reset and enter the password.
That time, the screen goes away (no black interrupt) and I receive the
same behaviour as initially reported (mouse active, but no panel).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232123] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-10-02 Thread Christoph
OK, I tried the steps but I receive the following:

DISPLAY=:0 dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

error: Fehler beim Erzeugen der Befehlszeile »dbus-launch
--autolaunch=037ecabb7358f86a0a7511505123cce1 --binary-syntax --close-
stderr«: Der Kindprozess wurde mit Status 1 beendet

Usage:
  dconf reset [-f] PATH

Reset a key or dir. -f is required for dirs.

Arguments:
PATH Either a KEY or DIR
KEY A key path (starting, but not ending with '/')
DIR A directory path (starting and ending with '/')

The error message is german, but it means that command dbus-launch... returns
that a childprocess terminates with 1

2013-04-05 Thread Christoph Reiter
This is a python-gobject-2 bug introduced by the fix in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygobject-2/+bug/1129309

It's only in combination with QL 2.5 which isn't in Ubuntu. 2.5.1 has a
workaround and will be released soon.
Possible workarround: use the QL unstable PPA.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = quodlibet

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1130938] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend [Dell XPS 15z]

2013-03-14 Thread Christoph Mende
I encountered the same problem (at least it's the same symptoms). This seems to
be a bug with the backlight (possibly
http://www.mail-archive.com/intel-gfx@lists.freedesktop.org/msg18396.html, n
ot sure how nouveau is related - I got hit by this on an Intel HD4000).
Luckily, I've found a quick workaround for this. Run this as root (sudo -s):
cat EOF /etc/pm/sleep.d/60intel
#!/bin/sh
# Force backlight on after resume

case $1 in
thaw|resume)
cd /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight
cat max_brightness brightness
;;
*)
exit $NA
;;
esac
EOF
chmod +x /etc/pm/sleep.d/60intel

That's it. This tells the system to set the backlight to full on resume. Even
if it is already set to full, this causes the video driver to re-enable the
backlight. Instead of max_brightness, one could also use actual_brightness to
reset to the old value.
Of course the cd line would need to be changed according to the backlight
driver (whatever's there in /sys/class/backlight), like I said, this version
works on an Intel HD4000, it needs modification on non-Intel obviously.

I have the Dell XPS 14 with same configuration but i have the core i7.
Try Linux Mint 14.1 64bit cinnamon it works fine on my system.
The graficcard you can use with bumblebee ;)

I think the freezebug is a kernelproblem with the new generation of

Linux Mint 14 works fine and has solved many bugs :)
All Bugs I had before are gone, at the time i had no critical point,
im very happy with mint 14.

So the problem with freezing should be solved with ubuntu 12.10 too because of
another kernel
and mint 14 based on ubuntu 12.10 ;)

In 75dbus_dbus-launch, 90consolekit, 90gpg-agent, and 90x11-common_ssh-

the programs being launched with the previous command as the arguments
to the current one, and this keeps on building:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 960005] Re: Intel GPU lockup on laptop suspend - display stuck on whatever was shown last before suspend.

2012-04-19 Thread Christoph Claus
Some things to add:
* I suspend at least daily, this strikes me on one out of five resumes.
* I have never experienced any lockups on resume on this machine (installed
around maverick) until upgrade to precise alpha, so this is a regression for
precise.
* killing gnome-session respawns a functional (non-locked) lightdm

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 960005] Re: Intel GPU lockup on laptop suspend

2012-04-17 Thread Christoph Claus
The bug affects me too. Killing compiz as you requested didn't really
fix the issue. X was updated again, but unity/compiz did not restart.
Manually restarting unity/compiz (DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz from tty1) re-
freezed X, which could subsequently not be unfrozen by killing compiz.
Let me know how I can help you further debugging this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 908542] [NEW] Switching outputdevice awfully slow and sometimes leads to unusable displays

2011-12-25 Thread Christoph Keller
Public bug reported:

I'm running ubuntu 11.10 on my thinkpad w520 (nvidia quadro 2000m,
nvidia-current drivers). Switching outputdevices is awfully slow no
matter how it do it. Same problem with keyboard shortcut, nvidia's
settings tool and disper. It takes 30 seconds at best to bring back any
kind of output. Sometimes it doesn't work at all (black screen until
reboot). All i see during this time is my mouse cursor which is moving
really laggy. could also be related to unity i guess. didn't have any of
these problems on arch linux using xfce.
