[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718991] [NEW] after Xserver 1.10 upgrade in natty experimental nouveau dri driver no longer runs Unity

2011-02-14 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Prior to the upgrade to Xserver 1.10 this worked on my setup. I know it
is unsupported but a regression that might be nice to track.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652311] [NEW] P4M900 won't boot into X from 10.04.1 medium without xforcevesa

2010-09-30 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

I was trying out Lucid on my fiancees machine (a Semp Toshiba Info IS
1462) but found that I could only get X to start using the xforcevesa
boot option. Leading to a very poor first impression of Ubuntu since the
user is greeted with a black screen and a basically nonfunctional
machine.

Additionally, but likely separately, the bootsplash is aligned wrongly
entirely on the left of the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 525273] [NEW] nouveau fails to support XV acceleration ION

2010-02-21 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Using nouveau I get very choppy playback in fullscreen. This appears to
be because XV acceleration is not available (though according to Fedora
the driver is supposed to support this).

Test using gstreamer-properties and set to X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv)
rather than autodetect then test, it will complain that it is unable to
initialize XV output.

I used approximately this approach to test:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524415] [NEW] gdm screen grabled on nvidia ION

2010-02-19 Thread David Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

I used jockey to uninstall the nvidia driver, then I deleted the
xorg.conf files to remove any traces of it's configuration
modifications. I rebooted, then install the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
package and rebooted. After a long delay X comes up and gdm looks like
the attached photo.

I captured all the information I could think of and will attach them. If
anything is missing I can likely reproduce this very easily.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524415] Re: gdm screen grabled on nvidia ION

The strange thing is that after using jockey-text to disable nouveau and
enable nvidia-current, once X comes up the resolution of my monitor is
no longer automatically detected correctly and I have to use nvidia-
settings to create a correct xorg.conf, this never happened before.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524415] Re: gdm screen grabled on nvidia ION

2010-02-19 Thread David Nielsen
I should have mentioned that this setup worked with nouveau the day the
first call for testing came out using the xorg--edgers/nouveau ppa.
Though choppy playback in fullscreen caused me to temporarily switch
back to the nvidia driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5

2010-01-18 Thread David Nielsen
the nouveau package appears to have the same weird dependency which has
prevented installation and thus testing since forever. Any chance we
could get that fixed as well?

There was an open bug on that issue but I believe it was closed as a dup
of this one.

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

When I install Jaunty on my Zonbu nettop (essentially an eBox-4854) the
cursor isn't drawn on the screen. The cursor does move but I have to
enable the accessibility feature that highlights the cursor position
when you press ctrl to let me even able to some what reasonably navigate
the desktop.

The input device is a Logitech Trackman Wheel USB, it works just fine
with my laptop but on the Zonbu hardware the cursor problem is present
(perhaps a video driver issue rather than evdev?)

This is very disturbing in part of the desktop workflow.
