[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2013533] Re: segfault in iris_dri.so when resuming from sleep

2023-09-08 Thread Dominik Stadler
It did not re-occur recently, so I think it can be closed as "fixed" by
the newer package for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2013533] [NEW] segfault in iris_dri.so when resuming from sleep

2023-03-31 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

When resuming from sleep, the desktop crashes and restarts and I am
presented with the display-manager log-in screen. All UI applications
were terminated as well.

It happens often, but not always.

I have a Display connected via USB-C/Thunderbolt and usually I power it
on along resuming the Laptop from sleep, maybe some timing there is
related.

system-logs contain the following crash-info:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2013333] [NEW] Quick Settings in the wrong place after Rotation

2023-03-30 Thread Dominik Viererbe
Public bug reported:

I am currently testing the Ubuntu Desktop amd64 in Lunar Beta.

- I opened the quick settings in the top right corner (Good)
- I rotated the Laptop by ca. 90 deg
=> This triggered the Desktop Environment to rotate too (Good)
  - Note: quick settings are still open
- I rotated the Laptop back
=> This triggered the Desktop Environment to rotate back too (Good)
- The quick settings are now Horizontally centered (Unexpected)

Note: I tested this during the Installation.

I attached a screenshot that shows this.

- ISO used:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1929854] Re: Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system updates without warning

2021-07-26 Thread Dominik Wezel
As to sshd_config:

I will, when the case arises again.

Unfortunately, I don't use sshd in my boxes on a regular basis and so
often discover only changes that possibly happened a long time ago. I
remember a nasty change from "PasswordAuthentication no" to
"#PasswordAuthentication yes", but honestly it was quite some time ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1929854] Re: Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system updates without warning

2021-07-26 Thread Dominik Wezel
As to grub.cfg:

I set GRUB_TIMEOUT=5 in my /etc/default/grub, but the timeout for efi
was reset to 30 on every update. I didn't know that files in
/etc/default/grub.d are supposed to be changed, but I now changed

if [ \$grub_platform = efi ]; then

  set timeout=${GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT:-30}

  if [ x\$feature_timeout_style = xy ] ; then

set timeout_style=menu

  fi

fi

in /etc/grub.d/00_header to ... GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT:-5 ... and hope
that this helps in the future.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1929854] Re: Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system updates without warning

2021-06-02 Thread Dominik Wezel
Making changes to /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose was, at
least for some time, the only way to make keyboard composition work in
Ubuntu, as ~/.XCompose didn't work anymore, and creating a custom
keyboard layout from scratch was not an option (my XCompose contains key
compositions for almost the entire non-JCK UniCode character set in
XCompose-coding).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1929854] Re: Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system updates without warning

2021-05-31 Thread Dominik Wezel
Hi Paride

Thanks for your feedback. I'm a bit confused and concerned that a
critical behaviour like this has to be addressed on package level and is
not part of aptitude, but so be it.

I will file individual bug reports against the affected packages when a
configuration file is next overridden in this package, to avoid to
address something that may have already been fixed (e.g. I couldn't say
when the last time ssh was updated and sshd_config overridden, while
Compose was overridden just recently, and grub.cfg gets overridden
almost every time discovery runs).

Dominik

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-07-16 Thread Dominik
OMG, this looks like it's it.

On my main computer with Geforce 330M I have a background that's 1x
screen res and I haven't been getting the corrupted background. I just
switched to a stock Ubuntu bg image, which I presume is much larger than
1440x900, suspended the machine and now it's completely white.

The corruption I now get after resume from suspend is this:

1. The Gnome menu (the one on the left after pressing the super key)
when using Gnome session is corrupted or invisible. Moving the mouse
over the icons makes them appear and closing and re-opening the overlay
fixes it. The left menu from Ubuntu session seems fine, but I only tried
a couple of suspends as I use the Gnome session.

2. Current program icon in the top bar of the Gnome session gets
corrupted.

3. Icons in some applications (like Cura) get corrupted. I think it may
be related to Qt.

But I guess that would be a different bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2016-01-13 Thread Dominik Gierlach
I know, it's not the best means of sharing this, but since it appears to be a
problem here:
Here is a more general way of solving this. Additionally, the script activates
natural scrolling.

#!/bin/bash

set -eu

id=$(xinput list | sed -n '/SynPS\/2 Synaptics
TouchPad/s/.*id=\([0-9]\+\).*/\1/p')

naturalScroll=$(xinput list-props "$id" | sed -n '/Natural Scrolling Enabled
(/s/.*(\([0-9]\+\)).*/\1/p')

click=$(xinput list-props "$id" | sed -n '/libinput Click Method Enabled
(/s/.*(\([0-9]\+\)).*/\1/p')

tap=$(xinput list-props "$id" | sed -n '/libinput Tapping Enabled
(/s/.*(\([0-9]\+\)).*/\1/p')

xinput set-int-prop "$id" "$naturalScroll" 8 1
xinput set-prop "$id" "$click" 0 1
xinput set-prop "$id" "$tap" 1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1512454] Re: Refresh change colours

2015-11-09 Thread Dominik
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 trusty ubuntu

** Description changed:

I had experienced few times that refreshing window causes some places to lose
right information about colour. I mean that colours change to different for
e.g. grey become yellowish, and strips are visible. Also in web browser some
letters disappear.
It is happening not often, maybe about 2/3 times per month. I am using Ubuntu
14.04, with following Hardware:
Intel core I5 540M 2.53 GHz x 2 with Intel Ironlake Mobile graphics. System
Is 64 bit version. 3,7GiB Ram.
I'm using two screens with different size. First one is built-in laptop
screen with resolution 1366x768 (16:9) and second one is Hitachi 22HXJ06U with
resolution 1920x1080 (16:9). This happened to me also in Ubuntu 15.04, and
before on Ubuntu 14.10. (In all cases the same hardware and two screens). Until
now I notice this bug only when on firefox so I thought it could be something
wrong with firefox, but today I noticed this bug on Terminal Window. I cannot
really provide information how to create this bug - twice it happened on
facebook when board automatically refreshed, and today it happened on Terminal
when I clicked on firefox. I tried to repeat the problem with terminal, using
the same commands but without positive results. Bug is fixing when window /
application getting refreshed - scrolling up / down or moving window on screen
fixing it. Creating Screenshot doesn't fixing it (done by default Print Screen
with animation that everything becoming white and going to normal imag
 e)
I also checked logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) but I dont see any error message or
something - log finishing after screen setting up.
I attached picture with example in firefox window (screenshots was bit edited
- facebook's board, chat and chat list been deleted).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1512454] [NEW] Refresh change colours

2015-11-02 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

I had experienced few times that refreshing window causes some places to lose
right information about colour. I mean that colours change to different for
e.g. grey become yellowish, and strips are visible. Also in web browser some
letters disappear.
It is happening not often, maybe about 2/3 times per month. I am using Ubuntu
14.04, with following Hardware:
Intel core I5 540M 2.53 GHz x 2 with Intel Ironlake Mobile graphics. System Is
64 bit version. 3,7GiB Ram.
I'm using two screens with different size. First one is built-in laptop screen
with resolution 1366x768 (16:9) and second one is Hitachi 22HXJ06U with
resolution 1920x1080 (16:9).
Bug is fixing when window /
application getting refreshed - scrolling up / down or moving window on screen
fixing it. Creating Screenshot doesn't fixing it (done by default Print Screen
with animation that everything becoming white and going to normal image)
I also checked logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) but I dont see any error message or
something - log finishing after screen setting up.
I attached picture with example in firefox window (screenshots was bit edited -
facebook's board, chat and chat list been deleted).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2015-10-21 Thread Dominik Gierlach
Although this bug is (rightfully) closed, there are interesting news:

With ubuntu 15.10, full clickpad support is provided by xserver-xorg-
input-libinput. No further configuration needed.

Tested with a T440s.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2015-05-31 Thread Dominik Gierlach
@William:
Thanks for the info!

I read into it. Fedora 22 uses libinput as input stack:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/LibinputForXorg

Among the benefits:
middle top software button can be used to emulate wheel events on the
trackstick (on the Lenovo *40 series and related touchpads)

If you don't want to compile the package yourself, II created a ppa which
contains the patched xserver-xorg-input-evdev, including a working config in
xorg.conf.d. The package should also make sure that the conflicting synaptics
package is removed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2014-10-31 Thread Dominik Gierlach
This bug is flagged as incomplete.

What information is missing to confirm the bug?

The problem is well defined, there is a confirmed duplicate/parallel bug
for xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.

The proposed patch appears to work fine for all thinkpads with clickpad.

What is the solution for this issue? Does the patch have to be included
in the upstream code xserver-xorg-input-evdev, or should a dedicated
package be built and included in the official repositories?

Should we create a dedicated ppa for thinkpads, which makes it easy for
new users to make their thinkpad work?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100312] [NEW] GLX extension fails to initialize in Xvfb

2013-01-16 Thread Dominik Röttsches
Public bug reported:

I request to include the following patch from upstream
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/patch/?id=65642ccb78aa2d4c4e17b9ac42e4ef625c4a6e8b

From the ChangeLog:
Subject: vfb: Initialize the GLX extension again.

This should fix a regression in the 1.13.0 release: commit
5f5bbbe543f65c48ecbb5cce80116a86ca3fbe86 removed a code path used by Xvfb
and made it use the default one when initializing extensions. However, this
meant the GLX extension was not initialized anymore since it is not part of
the `staticExtensions' array.

Since it is not possible to just add it to that array after commit
aad428b8e21c77397c623b78706eb64b1fea77c9, adopt an approach similar to
xwin's and xquartz's and initialize the extension from vfb's `InitOutput'.

This has been merged into the mainline already and is bound to be release in
1.13.2 -

I kindly request inclusion into the 1.13.0 package on Ubuntu. We use
xvfb for our testing scripts and we're dependent on GLX to function in
it.

** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058082] [NEW] Can this be merged with Bug #999191?

2012-09-28 Thread Dominik Danter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 999191 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999191

Public bug reported:

Sorry guys I haven't filed a bug before. In the Bug #999191 thread
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) asked this information of a different
person. I however found that this information might be useful from me as
well.

I can provoke the bug by running the following command in the gnome-termnial:
sudo adduser foo --uid998
Sends me to the gdm.
Sounds pretty crazy to me, but I tried it several times always with the same
results

I noticed the same behaviour when deleting a user with:
sudo userdel foo

2011-12-03 Thread Dominik P
Your samples are far worse than what I experienced. To me only a few
letters became barely readable because of strokes in them. However, it
looks as if the freedesktop guys have been working on a solution in
august 2011 (see remote bug watches). Let's hope that they were able to
fix it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-09-02 Thread Dominik P
I strongly believe that the big average of the users who are having this
same problem are unable to find this page (since the issue is hard to
explain) and are thus unable to workaround the issue. I myself have
spent 2 days searching - which speaks for itself, doesn't it?

So even if the package maintainers only decide to automatically activate
DebugWait on these cards by default it would be a great improvement that
would solve all future problems. There should be enough code already
present in the automatic configuration detection logic of Xorg to add
this small check with a few lines of code. Though, I'm not a package
maintainer nore do I know how it works. Thus my estimates are surely not
the best.

All summed up: just hack it so that it works for the masses. Nobody who
got a intel GMA900 chipset cares for performance anyway, which means
nobody would ever complain anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-31 Thread Dominik P
Hooray, looks like I finally found the bug where I can submit the
information I gathered. Two screenshots right away:

http://i.stack.imgur.com/Cfd9B.png
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8831/oddfonts2.png

I've got here a IBM X41t with intel GMA900 chipset:

~$ lspci |grep Display
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express
Graphics Controller (rev 03)

So, bug confirmed from my side and I would REALLY love that this issue
gets a higher priority. My laptop is in a unusable state as I'm unable
to read any longer text without getting headache after some time. I'm
going to test Option DebugWait true and feed back the results ASAP.

Looks just like this solved the issues for me:

Section Device

Driver intel
Option DebugWait true
EndSection

But it may need further testing. I'm going to feed back if the problem
still occurs in the next days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-30 Thread Dominik
I have exactly the same problem, and i'm not on a virtualized machine but
instead normal machine:
Intel i5 chipset with default drivers, nothing special. Directly after login to
my user 'dominik', the theme is how it should be and the following processes
run:

$ ps aux | grep sett
gdm 2722 0.9 0.3 370176 15072 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon
--gconf-prefix=/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins
dominik 2837 3.2 0.3 455344 15108 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

after some seconds, the theme goes away and now the following processes
run:

$ ps aux | grep settings
dominik 2837 1.3 0.3 407176 15052 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 463762] Re: After update to karmic ALT-F[1-8] switches to text console

2010-08-05 Thread Dominik Stadler
For the record, on the tuxonice mailing list, the following possible solution
was given, see
http://lists.tuxonice.net/pipermail/tuxonice-users/2010-August/000511.html:
If you are on intel graphic chipset(KMS) and you use pm-utils, I think I
have some clues about the issue.

If you dig deep into pm-hibernate code, you'll see that the no-chvt quirk is
used in this case. According to my experience this is bad, I think this
switches keyboard into xlate mode (same as you would doing alt-sysrq-R, but
can't be really switched back into normal mode). The only way I discovered to
prevent this is disabling the no-chvt quirk. My ugly hack consists of
commenting a line like this (comment already included):
# add_parameters --quirk-no-chvt
in the file /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98video-quirk-db-handler: 360 (on my
Debian sid). I have pm-utils 1.3.0

This code is part of the suspend|hibernate case when using_kms.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2010-04-07 Thread Dominik Drzewiecki
If this is of any help, I believe, I am too suffering from this bug on a
freshly installed beta-1 of Lucid.
The video card is reported as:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon X2300.

I noticed the static-like blinking horizontal ~6-12 pixels long
artifacts during installation. The static is noticeable even during
system bootup, even before the X is started. I cannot capture this
static while taking snapshots.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526893] [NEW] xterm wrongly handles Unicode on the prompt when printing text

2010-02-24 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

xterm misinterpretes some characters and writes junk text to the
terminal under the followign conditions:

1. The prompt contains special charachters, in this test case german umlauts
2. The text printed from a command (shell built-in, program, script, etc.) does
not end with a line break

Steps to reproduce:

Start xterm or any terminal emulator relying on it (e.g. gnome-
terminal), then create or cd into a directory containing an umlaut (e.g.
Ü11). Run a command that generates a one-line output of text, e.g. echo
-n Hello.

Expecgted behaviour: The output text is printed in front of the next
line's command line prompt with the input mark behind the prompt

Current behaviour: Text is not printed, instead, parts of the prompt are
printed behind it and after the input mark
