[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-02-25 Thread Edward Gibbs
Well, it was not a firmware update that fixed it. I'm on Qubes 4.2
right now and it still has the problem, Qubes is using Xfce 4.12 as
it's desktop manager, which I believe is Ubuntu based. Some update to
Ubuntu must have fixed the problem and it hasn't been rolled into the
Xfce version Qubes is using.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-02-25 Thread Edward Gibbs
As requested I downloaded the latest build and ran it from USB. After
selecting hybrid graphics in BIOS I booted up and was delighted to see
no mouse trails on the 2nd monitor!

I then rebooted back into 16.04 leaving hybrid graphics selected - no
mouse trails!

I think there was an Intel firmware update a week or two ago that I got
on Windows, maybe it updated the Intel graphics firmware? Whatever
happened I am happy to say that I cannot now duplicate the problem and
hybrid graphics seems to be working properly in both 16.04 and 17.10.

Thanks for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1664397] [NEW] Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-02-13 Thread Edward Gibbs
Public bug reported:

Lenovo Thinkpad P50, Xeon, Nvidia M2000m 4GB, 16 GB RAM

2nd monitor (ASUS) connected via either DP or HDMI, when using Hybrid
Graphics the cursor on the second display is distorted and leaves mouse
trails that persist for several seconds. Switching to Nvidia graphics
cures but Nvidia has other problems (built in display is dim and
brightness cannot be adjusted). Interestingly, just opening Display
settings also cures the problem for as long as the Display Setting
dialog is open. Under Windows (10 Pro) Hybrid Graphics does not exhibit
this problem.

Ubuntu release is 16.04.2 LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1569876] Re: Mouse trails disappear only on window refresh

2017-01-21 Thread Edward Gibbs
I am having a nearly identical problem with my P50 and an ASUS external
monitor.

In my case the trails last for a second or two then go away until I move
the mouse again. I have the same distorted cursor problem.

I've tried connecting with DP and HDMI, using proprietary or community
drivers, purging nvidia drivers and reloading, etc. By accident I have
discovered that opening the System Settings and going to the Display
settings (just going to them, not doing anything there) fixes it for as
long as the Display settings are open. As soon as I close Display
settings it comes right back.
