[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1791493] Re: Unwanted VT switch from alt + arrow keys

2018-09-09 Thread Erno Kuusela
There is also a bug filed in 2015 about the same problem, with a barrage
of recent comments from 18.04 users:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1508146

I hesitate to mark this a duplicate though, since the 2015 bug is not
necessarily the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1791493] Re: Unwanted VT switch from alt + arrow keys

2018-09-09 Thread Erno Kuusela
I found a discussion of this bug at
https://askubuntu.com/questions/886593/alt-f4-switches-to-tty4 and a
workaround (kbd_mode -s). No clue to what gets it in the wrong mode to
begin with, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1791493] [NEW] Unwanted VT switch from alt + arrow keys

2018-09-09 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

Recently the VT switching shortcut keys changed from ctrl+alt+arrowkeys
and ctrl+alt+F-keys to just alt+arrowkeys/f-keys. This conflicts with
many application keybindings, such as Firefox history back/forward.

I don't know which package is to blame, xorg-server is my best guess.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1119395] Re: Touchscree doesn't work on Fujitsu Stylistic Q702

2013-03-19 Thread Erno Kuusela
The rest of the functionality works after installing v3.9-rc3-raring
from kernel-ppa. It didn't really work properly in Qt either with the
earlier version, it didn't pass through click events properly to Qt
apps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1119395] [NEW] Touchscree doesn't work on Fujitsu Stylistic Q702

2013-02-08 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

Funnily the touchscreen accepts one gesture after boot (drawing the selection
rect on the desktop). Nothing after that.
I don't know if this is through some mouse emulation or if the N-Trig DuoSense
handles both touchpad and touchscreen,
or if the unrecognised input device 04c5:138b somehow managed to produce input
(or something else).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1119395] Re: Touchscree doesn't work on Fujitsu Stylistic Q702

2013-02-08 Thread Erno Kuusela
Same happens after upgrading to current alpha version of raring. I get
the one touch swipe after reboot.

After looking at xorg log more closely it appears the DuoSense is recognised as
touchscreen and the unknown hid is
recognised as mouse:

[ 3.434] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device HID 04c5:138b
(type: MOUSE, id 14)

[13.042] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device N-trig DuoSense
(type: TOUCHSCREEN, id 17)

** Description changed:

- Funnily the touchscreen accepts one gesture after boot (drawing the selection
rect on the desktop). Nothing after that.
- I don't know if this is through some mouse emulation or if the N-Trig
DuoSense handles both touchpad and touchscreen,
- or if the unrecognised input device 04c5:138b somehow managed to produce
input (or something else).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033242] Re: X server crashes

2013-01-23 Thread Erno Kuusela
Ok I have verified that my local fix works, this ErrorF triggers in the
beginning of AttendClient:

void
AttendClient (ClientPtr client)
{
OsCommPtr oc = (OsCommPtr)client-osPrivate;
int connection;

if (!oc) {
  ErrorF(osPrivate NULL in AttendClient!);
  return;
}

I had put the xserver-xorg-core package on hold while testing the local
modifications so it's theoretically possible
this was already fixed meanwhile in updates made to precise.

get a reproducible crash again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685321] Re: webgl doesn't work with chrome

2012-11-05 Thread Erno Kuusela
Because it doesn't work with Chrome, like reported in comment #7. It's the same
way on Precise with Chrome + Mesa,
the GPU process crashes. I don't know why it crashes on Chrome but works with
Firefox and Chromium.

There aren't separate WebGL implementations for different video cards in
Chrome/Chromium, it uses OpenGL/OpenGL ES.

Chromium is the open source project that Chrome is based on (it includes
further proprietary stuff and Google branding). The version of Chromium
in Precise (18.x) is older than what you get with Chrome from the Google

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685321] Re: webgl doesn't work with chrome

2012-11-05 Thread Erno Kuusela
I was referring to Chrome 22.x from the stable channel. Old Chrome
versions are rare since they're only distributed by Google and are
automatically updated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685321] Re: webgl doesn't work with chrome

2012-11-04 Thread Erno Kuusela
This sounds a little circular. It doesn't work with Mesa - it's
blacklisted by google - not a bug because it's blacklisted?

FWIW it seems to work fine with Chromium from Precise after disabling
the blacklist. Wonder what's different.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033242] Re: X server crashes

2012-09-04 Thread Erno Kuusela
This started happening frequently enough that I broke out the xorg sources and
figured out how to associate
the crash address to a line number. (*)

It's crashing at the line where it's dereferencing client-osPrivate, I'd guess
there's a missing null check of client-osPrivate at the start of AttendClient,
since many other functions in os/connection.c do a null check on that one but
AttendClient doesn't.
Of course it still might be a can't-happen situation for some implicit reason
and something bigger is going wrong...

(*)
install dbg version of xorg core package, get source and start build far enough
to apply patches, then
use print function-name in gdb to get address of function, and apply the
offset from xorg log like list *(0x1234+0x32)

report same symptoms)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033242] [NEW] X server crashes

2012-08-05 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

This has happened twice now, both times when machine was unattended and screen
was probably locked.
Looks similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=821628 including
the divisor 0 get vblank counter failed
warning preceding the crash.

So in Xorg log I get the following (the log for the older crash was not saved,
but from memory the backtrace looks
same)

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
  - About Ubuntu.

  You are using Ubuntu 10.10
  - the Maverick Meerkat - released in October 2010 and
supported until April 2012.

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
  packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

  Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
  Source: xserver-xorg-video-ati
  Version: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5

  3) What you expected to happen

  I expected my (Samsung SyncMaster 1100p Plus) monitor to be detected and
  X to know about display modes it can support.

  4) What happened instead

  It shows up as unknown and I had to manually configure the modes
  (which involved cvt/xrandr and gdm config files)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901630] Re: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen

2012-05-16 Thread Erno Kuusela
bootchk: see comment #7, if you use the qt sdk you won't get the ubuntu code
(it's not in upstream yet). You want
to test with the ubuntu-provided qt (fingerpaint demo is in the qt4-demos
package).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901630] Re: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen

2012-04-27 Thread Erno Kuusela
I finally got around to following through the config hackery described at
http://www.murraytwins.com/blog/?p=103
(the trick was to remove the existing wacom .conf, i think i earlier just chmod
000'd it but Xorg was running as
root so read it anyway). And it worked, kind of. I got fingerpaint working with
2 fingers, and then Xorg promptly (about 2 secs in)
crashed. Xorg.log recorded the sig11 but backtrace had no symbols.

2012-04-25 Thread Erno Kuusela
With the N-trig touchscreen (#724831) the Qt fingerpaint demo works with fine
1-5 fingers. So the wacom
touchscreen support should be fixed to handle that as well.

I got Qt multitouch working on another laptop after a driver fix (see

Looks like the wacom driver just converts the touch gestures (eg pinch)
to scroll wheel events, so it's not Qt's fault.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655279] Re: [i965] chromium webgl demos fail on gm45

2011-05-26 Thread Erno Kuusela
Chromium gpu blacklist seems to have gained an entry for this:

{

compatible with WebGL.,
 device_id: [ 0x27AE ],

(look in $HOME/.config/chromium/Local State). So reopening and
assigning to chromium.

It also seems to have a blanket blacklist entry for ati cards:

 description: ATI cards in Linux are crash-prone.,

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, and I might skip Natty. I didn't
realise I had to respond in order to keep this from expiring. I imagine
the supported until April 2012 in the about dialog means bugs are
still tracked for Maverick?

This should be assumed broken in natty unless proven otherwise, since googling

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655279] [NEW] chromium webgl demos fail on gm45

2010-10-05 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Google published some webgl demos for chromium, but they all hang on gm45. They
work on my
work machine (lucid + nvidia proprietary drivers).

steps to reproduce:

1. get chromium from daily ppa (apt-add-repository ppa:chromium-daily/ppa,
aptitude update, aptitude install chromium-browser)
2. launch chromium
3. go to http://dev.chromium.org/developers/demos-gpu-acceleration-and-webgl
4. witness all demos hanging (after a while a popup appears offering to kill
unresponsive tabs, clicking wait for a few times makes no difference).

Most of the demos at http://www.khronos.org/webgl/wiki/Demo_Repository
hang too btw.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645281] [NEW] lucid + gm45 freeze with Naali viewer

2010-09-22 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

Machine freezes on login with Naali. Adding more in additional comment
since launchpad just ate my first writeup (internal error after clicking
submit, back button shows empty report form).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645281] Re: lucid + gm45 freeze with Naali viewer

2010-09-22 Thread Erno Kuusela
(reporting against xserver-xorg-video-intel since using ubuntu-bugon
linux first refused to generate report while intel-drm-next kernel was
installed, and then after i removed it, it crashed on a dangling vmlinuz
link).

so, steps to reproduce on lucid;

 * check out and build naali (git clone http://github.com/realXtend/naali.git;
cd naali; bash tools/build-ubuntu-deps.bash)
 * launch it (cd bin; ./viewer)
 * click on Enter world
 * witness freeze

I followed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze -
 * stock lucid: nothing in kernel.log or Xorg.log
 * drm-intel-next kernel + lucid xorg: behaved same as stock lucid. Nothing in
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
 * drm-intel-next kernel + xorg-edgers drivers-only: same as above
 * drm-intel-next + xorg-edgers full ppa: x failed to start

I logged in from another machine and tried to find out where the hang was.
Funnily only alt-sysrq + b works from the
console, no other sysrq keys, but I got the task dump using echo -n t
/proc/sysrq-trigger. These are using the
stock lucid kernel + xorg.

Here's naali part of task dump
