[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows
Yep, repro works for me: Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr2bWccOUu4 Steps: - Open Google Chrome - Right-click to open a context menu - Use the keyboard shortcut to trigger the gnome screenshot area UI - For me, that's CTRL-ALT-PrintScreen, but I my keybindings may be customized That's it, and it may take a couple tries, but these steps 100% reproduces it for me. Please let me know if it reproduces for you, and if I can provide more info. Notes: - It must be a Google Chrome window. Context menus on gnome-terminal and gimp block my keyboard shortcuts entirely, so I cannot screenshot those context menus, and cannot trigger the issue. - Using "shutter" to take the screenshot instead of gnome screenshot works. I have SHIFT-PrintScreen bound to `shutter -s` -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362359 Title: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/362359/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows
This is happening to me now with Gnome on Ubuntu 22.04.3. I'm going to document all the behaviors I see, and I think I have reproduction steps (taking a screenshot when a context menu is open, maybe specifically with shutter), but I need to reboot to verify the exact steps. Observations while it is stuck: - Core issue: Window focus cannot be changed with the mouse. - But it can with the keyboard. Alt-Tab still works. - On the focused window: All mouse functions work: left / right / middle / wheel / hover - On other windows: ONLY hover and wheel (scroll) DO WORK. No clicks whatsoever - On the upper or lower gnome toolbars: nothing works. No clicks, no hovers. But the clock time is still correct, so they're "working" - If I tap META, it opens the activities ui, but no mouse functions work (click/hover/wheel), but I can hit TAB or start typing to search for an app to launch / use arrow keys to navigate the interface. - Regarding window adjustments (resize by borders, drag by title, close/maximize buttons) - Google Chrome responds differently than all other windows. I assume this is due to Chrome's custom window decorations. - Google Chrome can still be resized and dragged by title and closed / maximized / etc - Non-custom window decorations (gnome-terminal, gimp, shutter, vscode, Chrome's debug tools, etc) cannot be dragged, resized, or closed by their window decorations. - META-click to drag and resize does not work for any windows, Google Chrome included. - Changing workspaces with keyboard still works. When you do so, as always, one window in the new workspace is focused, so it's the only working window. - Running xev (and then closing it) did not fix it - Killing shutter did not fix it - Taking a second screenshot with shutter does not fix it. I think that's all I can observe, I'll reboot now, and edit / update if I can reproduce it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362359 Title: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/362359/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1940779] [NEW] has_options missing so ssh-agent doesn't start
Public bug reported: The file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/20x11-common_process-args is missing the definition of the function has_option() in the 21.04 distribution. As a result, when lightdm starts X11, even though use-ssh-agent is specified in Xsession.options, the test fails and so the agent is not started. This is in the context of using the i3 window manager, which shouldn't matter except that maybe gnome does stuff on its own that makes the problem not apparent there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow
I am suffering from this problem as well (2020 Dell XPS 13", Ubuntu LTS 20.04), even after applying the fix at https://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67148. HOWEVER - I have found that if I mirror my displays (laptop built-in + external HP2511X vis DVI), the lag disappears. This is true even when connected via an external USB 3.0 hub, so at least I can use my external mouse/KB at the same time as enjoying the larger desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875015 Title: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1875015/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1874964] [NEW] Secondary display in portrait mode renders incorrectly
Public bug reported: Using the Ubuntu 20.04 settings app to setup multiple monitors creates broken xrandr settings. Using the app to set a 3840x2160 primary monitor in Landscape and 1920x1080 in Right Portrait, the primary monitor ends up with a "virtual resolution" of 4680x2160 which creates a horizontal panning effect at the monitor boundary and pushes the secondary monitor's content far off to the side. I can also confirm this happens on a Lenovo X230; when clicking the touchpad, the cursor will sometimes move to the lower left corner. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1437482] [NEW] Installer issue
Public bug reported: I'm installing 15.04 on a 2013 Macbook Pro, 13 retina. It looks like each 'screen' in the process is displayed in a pane or window, that you can drag around to relocate. One of the panes is titled Install )as superuser) Preparing to Install Ubuntu' and the checkmarks for free space, plugged into power source, and connection to the internet are checked. Upong clicking 'continue' in this pane, I initially thought the installer hung. I waited for nearly 30 minutes, and it never progressed to the next screen. I tried movint that pane around with the mouse, as it seemed.. odd, like it was off center, and something was 'off the screen' below the visible area. However, the mouse was unable to move the 'pane' Upon a second install attempt, before it got to this point again, I moved the pane to the top left corner, as far as I could. when I got to the same point mentioned above, I clicked continue. After a few moments, a UEFI warning popped up, telling me that some OS is set to bios compatibility mode. I suspect that it was actually this prompt that was below the visible screen real estate, and caused the assumed 'hang'. After having relocated the menu, and accepting the UEFI warning, the installation proceeded. However, it also popped that same UEFI warning up approximately 4 additional times during the install process. This seems a bit excessive, as once should be enough. I'm not sure if the repeated prompting is intended, or a bug. But if it's intended, I would vote that it's a bit.. excessive. I'll reinstall this evening after I get home, and attach some screenshots to this report, as I think that would do better than trying to explain what I mean by a 'pane ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-10.10-generic 3.19.2 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-10-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.16.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Mar 27 16:05:28 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: vivid DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.19.0-10-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Device [8086:0a2e] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Apple Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1437482] Re: Installer issue
This is after I drag the screen to the upper left. Notice how the underlying pane that the installation step is redrawn onto.. extends past the bottom of the screen you normally see displayed? I suspect the UEFI warning is being drawn below that, so if you don't drag it up.. the UEFI screen is never viewable. For what it's worth, I installed this into a VM as well, and the installation screens look as you'd expect. So this appears to be isolated to this laptop, or display resolution in some way. ** Attachment added: IMG_20150327_155952.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1437482/+attachment/4358231/+files/IMG_20150327_155952.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437482 Title: Installer issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1437482/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked
I found a way to duplicate this issue. Run the following script in a terminal: #!/bin/sh sleep 10 update-manager --no-focus-on-map Before the update-manager pops up, log into a Guest Session. Wait about 10 seconds, then switch back. Enter your password at the greeting screen. Then you'll see a 'Enter the root password' type of box since update-manager needs root permissions. I hit cancel on that window. Finally, there will be an update-manager icon (the green A with a progress bar through it) in the list of program at the left, but it can't be clicked on to bring it up. It can be right-clicked to close it. Also, alt-tab shows it, but won't switch to it. Potential pre-requisites: I'm running on a laptop with an external monitor. They are different resolutions. Also there is an update available to install. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, but I've seen it on 12.04. Interestingly enough, my Guest Session runs on tty F8, meaning that I can press Ctrl-Alt-F8 and see the guest session. When I press Ctrl- Alt-F7 I get my normal session. I have no clue how to continue looking at this problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003950 Title: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1003950/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1395182] [NEW] Screen tears on xrandr orientation inverted
Public bug reported: When xrandr -o inverted is run, the resulting image is split down the middle. This happens 95% of the time; it has worked once or twice without tearing. Rotation can be activated through unity-control-center Display Settings rotation field, and that reliably works fine. When xrandr -o normal is run, the display returns to normal (although bug #1376760 is observed). xrandr -o right and xrandr -o left also reliably work without issue; this only occurs on xrandr -o inverted. The same behaviors are observed with the longer form of the command xrandr --output eDP1 --rotation inverted, etc. This has also been reported at https://github.com/pfps/yoga- laptop/issues/28, which uses xrandr commands to invert the display. Affects me, my details: Ubuntu 12.04.5, NVidia 340.58 64-bit, card is NVS 310 For me, minimizing and restoring does NOT fix the issue, but resizing the windows fixes the issue. Unfortunately, some windows are not resizeable. Happens mostly to VirtualBox and Wine - it used to happen to Chrome a lot, but hasn't recently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor
Hello, i have a thinkpad t420 with a nvidia nvs 4200 graphics card (running ubuntu 14.04). this bug also affects me. i'm running a 3 monitor setup, the internal one, one connected via vga, one via displayport - hdmi. On the monitor with the displayport i also get weird refresh problems (the refresh lags everywhere but where the cursor is). If i play a video on a different monitor, i will still have the mouse cursor problems, but my refresh problems on the middle monitor are gone. btw i'm running nvidia-331 and latest compiz from the default repo. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1278223 Title: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278223/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1196712] [NEW] nvidia-310-updates 310.44-0ubuntu2: nvidia-310-updates kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: I was humming along and appeared to be fine, then the system froze completely and forced me to power-cycle to get it to come back to life. On doing so, booting into the current 3.10 (3.10.0-1.8) kernel for Saucy, there was no nvidia driver, and an error in the xorg logs saying that the driver failed to load. I was left with X in a failsafe mode, and no desktop, only a black screen and an X cursor... no way to do anything useful at all. To get to a working system, I had boot into the older 3.9.0-7.15 which did have a working, compiled nvidia driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133162] [NEW] video does not recover after suspend with nouveau driver
Public bug reported: When running 12.04.2 with the nouveau driver, the system (X) does not recover after suspend and the system eventually freezes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot
disabled all checkboxes in xdiagnose as recommended above (note: only box checked by default was auto-reporting). rebooted. no joy. opened xdiagnose GUI and auto-reporting was re-enabled; this option must be a persistent option in xdiagnose as I could not apply or save and survive a reboot. effected computer = Dell Dimension E510. Of note, I have this same .iso installed on a 1) Dell E6400 laptop as a bootable partition, 2) virtually installed with Fusion in a Macbook Pro, 3) virtually installed with Virtual Box in Windows v7 Bootcamp on a Macbook Pro - and this bug is not presentwithin any of these installs... possibly a hardware specific bug for the Dimension E510? Lastly, if I attempt to report the bug via the pop-up error window, the error becomes a loop, lasting at least 4 - 5 times as already mentioned. But if I cancel, the error may only appear one more time, select cancel again and the error window does not reappear... other than being annoying, I see no performance issues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997470 Title: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/997470/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025438] [NEW] [HP Workstation z420]: Unity menu dock visually corrupted after resume from suspend.
Public bug reported: Problem encountered: I've seen this happen on a couple of machines running 12.04 LTS with base 3.2.0.23 kernel level. 1.) Choose suspend from menu drop down. 2.) Shake mouse or hit key to resume 3.) System will resume and unity launcher on the left hand side will be distorted. Display is otherwise fine. Workaround: All you need to do usually to clear the distortion is to hover the mouse icon over the affected launcher menu. The menu will then return to its original unaltered condition. Reproducable? Yes, this can be reproduced after every suspend in a 250 cycle loop. Screenshot is attached. Noticed this on multiple Lenovo systems and some Dells too. Steps to recreate: Boot precise. Do some work for a while (maybe 15 minutes maybe longer) close the lid open the lid when system resumes, the desktop may be frozen... This doesn't happen every time I close the lid, but seems to occur after the systems been running and working for a while. The desktop appears frozen. There is still mouse pointer movement, but you'll note that the cursor doesn't change as it moves across various types of windows, clicks do nothing to icons, buttons, or whatever. Right click produces no context menus, no tooltips appear on launcher icons. ** Summary changed: - [Lenovo W510] Entire desktop becomes unresponsive after suspend/resume + Entire desktop becomes unresponsive after suspend/resume -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990575 Title: Entire desktop becomes unresponsive after suspend/resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/990575/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Also, it's not nVidia dependent as first thought, as this occurs on systems without nVidia cards installed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 992233] [NEW] [Lenovo E525] Switching video modes causes severe corruption / can't display larger modes
Public bug reported: To reproduce, install 12.04 LTS onto a Lenovo E525 with the ATI video card. Run the script /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/xrandr_cycle After the first few larger modes, video will become horribly corrupted and may not recover once the script tries to restore the original mode. Essentially, the script determines what modes are availabe then switches to those modes to verify they work. Once the resolution gets small enough (less pixels), I noted severe screen corruption. See the attached video. the fun really stars around the 30 second mark. On that video, the screen did not recover afterwards. I had to powercycle the machine to get the screen back to a usable state.
