[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300557] Re: Screen resolution no longer works
Okay, I got out of that situation with the help of the flashrom people. My BIOS is now updated. It helped a bit in that I can now define and add my resolution again using xrandr. It won't stay added though: I need to define and add it every time I boot. Otherwise, the resolution is not in the Displays settings dropdown. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300557] Re: Screen resolution no longer works
No change in 15.04. I can add the resolution with xrandr, and after that I can use it. But after reboot, I have to do it again. The upgrade got stuck with a black screen and no networking, but I eventually got out of it with the apt-get dist-upgrade dance from the console. I hope that hasn't messed things up. It may matter that I've got the monitor's DVI port hooked up to my computer's HDMI port. It was the only way to get things working: the monitor doesn't support its full native resolution on HDMI, and the Haswell builtin graphics only supports the resolution on HDMI. But, the hardware can do it and it used to work from the settings GUI without hackery. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300557 Title: Screen resolution no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1300557/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315135] [NEW] xorg.conf deleted during upgrade; native resolution no longer works
Public bug reported: I just upgraded a desktop system from 13.10 to 14.04, and to my horror found that the monitor's native resolution was no longer supported: the best setting offered was 1024×768 or somesuch. Turns out the upgrade deleted xorg.conf. There were two backups: one with the date as a suffix (.01052014) and one with just .backup as a suffix. The one with the date didn't look like what I had before, so I restored xorg.conf from xorg.conf.backup instead. Now I think I'm back in the resolution I had before (after going to the Display settings), but there's something wrong. The resolution isn't quite the native one so many pixels are fuzzy, causing my eyes to ache, and the font inside menus looks a few sizes too small. It's hard to read and leaves a lot of horizontal space in the menus unused. It also makes kerning look irregular. The monitor is an Iiyama ProLite E2407HDSV. It's supposed to do 1920×1080, but the best I can get working properly in the Display settings is 1680×1050. The next step up, 1920×1080, won't show the entire screen — large swathes of the desktop fall outside the physical display. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1315135] Re: xorg.conf deleted during upgrade; native resolution no longer works
It's beginning to look like an nvidia driver problem. I tried switching to Noveau; that left me with a resolution of 640×480, with no other options. (In case you're wondering: it looks great but isn't very practical). Switching back to the proprietary driver deleted my xorg.conf again. After a few times back and forth between the two drivers, and restoring xorg.conf, I now suddenly find that most of the fuzzy pixels are gone, the GUI fonts look good again, the menu bars are back to the Unity style, and looking at the screen no longer hurts my eyes! No idea what happened, or why making the same changes earlier didn't produce the same effects. Let's just hope it stays the way it looks now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315135 Title: xorg.conf deleted during upgrade; native resolution no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1315135/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Prior to, I think, Saucy I could only reach this resolution by adding it using xrandr, and then calling xrandr on boot/login to select that resolution. The Display preferences did not show any higher options than 1920×1200. In Saucy, the native resolution just worked, and I could stop using xrandr. It also worked in Trusty in the alpha releases, up to (and I think including) beta-1. But today (this is not an April's fool, is it?) I rebooted after an upgrade, and found myself back in 1920×1200. Again, the Display preferences list that as the highest possible resolution. But this time, attempts to ‘xrandr --admode’ my native resolution failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957699] Re: [bcm5974] Right-click no longer working
It gets weirder. After running that command, *most* attempts at mid- clicking work. Some come out as left clicks though, and one came out as a right-click just now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957699] Re: [bcm5974] Right-click no longer working
Ah! I think I'm getting a handle on this. I think the right-click must have gotten more sensitive to movement during the attempt to click. Right-click works sometimes now, but I have to hold both my fingers really really still as I push down the trackpad. This is compounded by another problem I've been having, where right- clicking in a scrollable pane (usually Nautilus or Chromium) causes the pane to scroll up by a certain, seemingly fixed distance just before the click takes effect. So I often end up right-clicking on the wrong link, wrong file etc. This happens even if I'm very careful to hold my fingers still, but it only happens once. If I right-click again in the same pane, even if there's plenty of room left to scroll, it doesn't jump again. Maybe this movement is also upsetting right-click attempts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/957699 Title: [bcm5974] Right-click no longer working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/957699/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise regression reproducible ubuntu ** Description changed: On my mid-2009 MacBook Pro, running Precise since alpha with continual updates, middle-clicks have recently stopped working. Normally on these laptops, pushing down the trackpad with one finger is a left-click; pushing it down with two fingers is a right-click; and pushing it down with three fingers is a middle-click. Of these, the middle-click gesture stopped working. The other two still work. I don't know what it's trying to do instead of middle-click, but it's trying to do something. When I press down with 3 fingers on the desktop, the mouse pointer vanishes as with a normal click, but dragging with the 3 fingers pushed down does not seem to do anything. - I have “enable mouse clicks with touchpad” disabled — that's tapping, - whereas this touchpad can physically click down. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933355] Re: Middle-click on MacBook Pro touchpad no longer works
X crashed just as I tried clicking to make sure that the bug was still there, breaking the “apport” run. Probably not related; it crashes all the time at the moment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704944] [NEW] Mouse control gone crazy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg My mouse control has been going crazy lately. This is on a MacBook Pro, June 2009 model, running Maverick. Symptoms: * Phantom right-button clicks, popping up unexpected menus and creating unwanted folders in Nautilus. * Mouse clicks appear to be ignored. * Attempts to drag an icon on my desktop turn into drag-select boxes. * Attempts to drag an icon on my desktop creates unexpected links to applications instead. * ubuntu-bug claims it can't capture my mouse. Usually, switching to a different virtual desktop (using the keyboard) and back sometimes fixes it for a while. Then, possibly as soon as one mouse click later, things go wrong again.
