[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422669] Re: [karmic] suspend to ram broken in kubuntu

2009-09-02 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
I am seeing one more behavior. If the system is in sleep for more that
say half an hour, then when waking it up the kdm login screen does not
even appear. Its pure black. But if I enter my password based on an
assumption, it seems to be working then when I move my cursor it changes
when it passes my notes in desktop. But at this point I cannot even log
out. Only thing I can do is do a VT switch and reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422669] Re: [karmic] suspend to ram broken in kubuntu

2009-09-02 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
The behavior is changing. This time its more like comment 3.I am only
getting the black screen. I did a VT switch and changed back. At this
point it completely froze. Only sysrq RSEIUB was working. After this I
ssh'ed from another host and took he xorg logs.

After this my system refuses to boot in the first try. It says fsck
failed as super block write time is in future. and asks to run fsck
manually. I have been noticing this fsck for a long time, when ever I
have to uses sysreq keys because of this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 294972] Re: MASTER: xorg high cpu usage, general system sluggishness

2009-08-06 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
I am using kubuntu karmic and seeing one issue of high cpu usage after
*suspend to ram*.

On resuming from sleep. CPU usage remained high for application xorg,
firefox-3.5, kmail and ktorrent for about 15 minutes.
Total usage was about 66 % . After this cpu usage fell back to normal levels.

Is this related to this bug only or should I open a new one?

there is a spike in cpu usage.

Since the KMS stuff is so inter-linked, I can't be sure. But since the
only variable is the kernel (2.6.30 works, 2.6.31 doesn't), it might be
 a kernel issue.

I cannot reproduce the freezes in karmic and I am not using any packages

I think that the freeze said in the freedeskop bug is introduced with more
latest versions of the packages in the X stack. and the freeze in this bug
is a separate issue fixed by some other updates.

My problem is not an immediate lockup like it seems that Jithin Emmanuel
reported (though I haven't looked at the Xorg log yet) - if I just close
the lid and leave it for a few minutes and open it again then its
usually still ok. For me the freeze happens when I have the screen
closed for a long time - several hours.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd

2009-05-27 Thread Jithin Emmanuel
You better not upgrade. Wait till stable drivers are available. It also
needs 2.6.30 kernel. And I believe that is never going to be available in
jaunty, So you better wait till karmic is released. Hope it will be fixed by
then.

I've been following this bug for a while, but not as closely in the past
 week or too.

I have a Dell m1330 Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 0c). I've been holding off upgrading because of
the intel bugs. I'm wondering if it's relatively safe to upgrade to 9.04
now. I don't mind doing some configuring but I'm wondering if there's a
condensed list of things I can try if I experience this freezing.

This has now been fixed, see

Maybe it can be backported, as this crash really feels like the one
described in this bug here. I doubt it is the same one, but I guess
 bug reports are beeing mixed...

If it needs newer kernel and 2.7.1 driver then it cannot be fixed for jaunty
right?

2.7.1 fixed alot of random freezes of which there doesn't seem to be a
single reason behind, I'm sorry it didn't fix yours. Have you tried
upgrading your kernel to see if the results differ? Alot of the X intel
fixes are happening in the kernel space now unfortunately which is not so
easy to fix for older releases. I recommend trying 2.6.30-rc6 (aka what
should be 2.6.30-6.7 for karmic which should be released any time now) along
with the xorg-edgers packages on jaunty when it is released to see if there
is any change. rc6 specifically because there were some significant changes
since rc5 which fix random crashes on i965 hardware such as -
drm/i915: Don't allow binding objects into the last page of the aperture

  [ 94.898972] [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get
vblank count for disabled pipe 0

That is just from closing glxgears most likely.

Maybe we should stop trying to do workarounds and hacks for 965 and try to
understand the bigger picture of what is actually happening.

Žygimantas Beručka, This bug report is about freezes happening on the
965GM chipset, starting with the update on April 3rd. This bug has 5
duplicates. They are all for the 965GM chipsets (I just double-checked
 that).

I'm not saying that you and bullinger don't have a real bug, only that
commenting on this bug is not going to help. The underlying cause that
makes the GPU on 965GM chipsets lock up, is probably different from the
underlying cause for the freezes on your i855 chipset.
