[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2015577] [NEW] middle click to lower window no longer works for xwayland windows

2023-04-07 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

i have titlebar middle-click set to lower windows in Tweaks. In
kinetic, this works for xwayland windows, while in lunar it no longer
does. (native wayland gtk3 and gtk4 apps do appear to work though,
which was a long time coming!)

I've also noticed that the crash in
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1790496 gets triggered by
the 1pixel shift, even when sharing the full desktop screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1997480] [NEW] maximized xwayland windows shift by 1 pixel when on top vs/ not on top

2022-11-22 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

on kinetic with a gnome wayland session, maximized X apps on the
secondary screen run through xwayland appear to move position by ~ 1
pixel when they are on top vs/ not on top. running w/ 2 monitors,
primary @ 175% scaling, secondary @ 100% scaling

minimal example:
maximize xterm and have it be the top window on secondary screen. open another
window on the primary screen. drag it over to the secondary screen to overlap
the xterm and see the window border jump by ~1 pixel

actual example that is more noticable:
maximize an intellij/pycharm/other jetbrains product and have it be the top
window on the secondary screen. hover over something that creates a popup (eg
a folder in the left project tree pane with a name long enough to get cut off)
and see the whole IDE dance around.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493989] [NEW] After display goes to sleep, sometimes external monitor is black

2015-09-09 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

In a gnome session, my screen locks & turns off after a certain amount
of inactivity (but the system is not in suspend).

When I wake the display back up by moving mouse / hitting a key, it
seems like my external monitor is redetected -- both internal & external
screen blink black as if I had just plugged in my external monitor, and
then _sometimes_ the external monitor stays black (but thinks it is
receiving input). Other times it's fine, but when the issue happens,
the displays control panel still thinks the external screen is
connected, just nothing is visible. Unplugging & replugging the screen
fixes the issue, and it happens maybe 1/2 the time the display locks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915408]

2012-03-12 Thread Joe Barnett
I've tested against a kernel with this patch, as well as mainline kernel
(both built by ubuntu kernel team), and am still seeing the same
behavior. So seems like this change doesn't fix the issue.

flipped though (moving fingers right scrolls right, and left scrolls
left)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 831336] Re: running 'xterm' exists X session

2011-08-30 Thread Joe Barnett
Nothing particularly unusual I think... gfx card is a ATI Technologies
Inc Broadway PRO [Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series]; probably most unusual
part of setup is 1920x1080 laptop screen attached to 1920x1200 monitor.
Definitely no idea why malloc would fail.

This worked in oneiric until around when bug report was filed
(definitely worked ~2 weeks beforehand, then didn't test for a week,
then failed). It also worked in natty, although I just remembered that
I was seeing the same behavior towards the end of the natty xorg-edgers
updates. It fixed when purging xorg-edgers ppa, and then remained fixed
on upgrade to oneiric.

will test with gnome-panel/unity/unity2d later today and let you know.
Am also able/willing to do any other testing that would help track this
down, as its 100% reproducible by starting xterm (and I've also seen X
crash more randomly when, for example, opening a new chromium-browser
instance).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 831336] Re: running 'xterm' exists X session

2011-08-24 Thread Joe Barnett
not sure if related, but as of today* noticing weird potentially damage-
related issues in gnome-terminal/chromium-browser:

if i have two tabs open and switch between them, the terminal/tab
display doesn't always update. Sometimes only the tab contents get
repainted, sometimes only the tab itself, sometimes neither. if I then
unfocus the window, the terminal gets repainted appropriately. let me
know if I should file a separate bug for that.

* possibly related to mutter/clutter upgrade? unclear to me...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 831336] Re: running 'xterm' exists X session

2011-08-22 Thread Joe Barnett
.xsession-errors after crash/endsession attached.

this is with GDM.

pretty sure this was working approximately 2 weeks ago, but not sure
exactly when it got broken.

left shift during boot didn't seem to bring up the kernel boot menu;
will try again, possible I got the timing of it wrong.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814777] [NEW] Occassional mouse cursor corruption on primary display

2011-07-22 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

I often get into the state where the cursor on my internal laptop
display (1920x1080 resolution) gets corrupted into a single-pixel wide
vertical dotted bar (see approximate center of attached screenshot), but
the mouse cursor on my external display (1920x1200 resolution) is fine.

alternate cursors (window resize handles/text cursor, etc) either
display the same vertical bar, stretch it out a few extra pixels, or
cause the cursor to disappear entirely.

gnome-screenshot captures that include the cursor _do_ appear correct,
but not sure how much of that is screenshot-capturing-cursor-emulation
type code.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 806235] [NEW] Upgrade xfixes to version 5 for pointer barrier support

2011-07-05 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

according to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=622655 and
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640100 , xfixes version 5 (+
possibly some other stuff? I can't quite tell...) allows pointer
barrier support, which should keep the mouse from entering dead areas
of the screen on asymmetric multi-monitor setups.

would be nice to have this in ubuntu!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709418] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] external monitor corruption on wake from suspend

2011-01-28 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

Using maverick + xorg-edgers ppa on an HP Envy15 with 01:00.0 VGA
compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Broadway PRO
[Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series] [1002:68a1]

after waking from suspend, my HDMI-plugged in external monitor was
corrupted as shown in attached picture until reboot.
unplugging/replugging did not help, nor did restarting X.

laptop monitor is 1920x1080, external monitor is 1920x1200.

(tried reporting using ubuntu-bug, but got This is not a genuine Ubuntu
package, so let me know how to provide any further needed information)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-11-18 Thread Joe Barnett
@Henrik;

on an HP Envy15, works in terms of allowing two finger scroll two-
finger-tap-as-right-click, but having some problems related to/in
addition to #582809 due to clickpad (hinged on top edge, with buttons
on the bottom edge):

-right and middle mouse button areas of click pad register as left click
(same as #582809)
-can't click, hold button down, and drag w/ 2nd finger, as 2nd finger gets
treated as two-finger-tap-as-right-click, resulting in context menu popup
instead of click-drag behavior. I _can_ click the button, hold finger on
clickpad and move it around to get some degree of click-and-drag, but if I move
up the pad too far, the button releases, and I can't click-drag down, because
the button is at the bottom of the pad.

can't seem to install both your synaptics-dkms package as well as pauls'
psmouse dkms package at the same time and get both fixes, but looks
like they're actually both providing the same driver, so that seems
expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554980] Re: two finger scroll not working on SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad.

2010-07-14 Thread Joe Barnett
as original reporter, don't believe this should be a duplicate, as two
finger scroll seems solveable outside the scope of full multitouch
gesture support.

we can let bug 308191 handle multitouch, and this bug can be closed as
fixed when two finger scroll works out of the box (user perspective:
don't care if emulated or not)

** Summary changed:

- two finger scroll/multitouch not working on lenovo thinkpad w510 having
