[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2049697] [NEW] GPU not being detected when I try to run any game

2024-01-17 Thread Justin Klassen
Public bug reported:

I ran ran apport-bug xorg and it took me here. Trying to figure out an
issue where any time I open a game, it crashes and gives the error
message "GPU not detected". From everything I've tried it seems like the
computer has no problem detecting the GPU and it seems to be working
fine, but games are still not working. Any help is appreciated!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2018-05-09 Thread Justin
I have this problem on a Dell XPS 15 laptop touchpad running Linux Mint
18.3 based upon Ubuntu 16.04. This actually defaults to libinput, and
that's where I first encountered the issue. So I tried synaptic to see
if it would go away (it did not), which led me to this bug. So for me it
happens with both drivers, it's just worse under synaptic. With
libinput, it doesn't jump as far across the screen. But it does jump,
under the scenario described in #52 -- you're moving the mouse with one
finger to where you want to click, and you click with the other finger.
But at that moment the pointer jumps in the direction of the other
pointer (for right-handed people clicking with their pointer finger,
this is to the bottom left).

Sadly, these are touchpads without dedicated buttons, but being used by
users who are used to having and using dedicated buttons. In either
case, it's quite frustrating. And it does not occur under windows, so it
isn't a hardware-only issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442977] [NEW] Font display issue

2015-04-11 Thread Justin Toniazzo
Public bug reported:

Text is occasionally rendered such that random letters throughout all
applications are missing. This appears to only affect the system default
font. Changing the text scaling factor via something like Ubuntu Tweak
resolves the issue, as does changing the system default font. The issue
reappears, however, upon reboot.

HDMI. I upgraded to 14.10, updated to the 3.17.4 kernel, and rebooted.
Now both external monitors are recognised.

Thanks!

2014-03-31 Thread Justin of The DeLong Family
noob i dont know if this is where i should post this seeing how old this
post is but regarding OP, same is true with xubuntu 14.04 64 bit msi
nvidia gt240, mb dg9650t with integrated intel video, with nvidia legacy
binary driver v. 304.119 and 304.117, nvidia binary driver 331.38 and

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1224579] Re: Video driver does not wake from suspend on A8-4500M

2014-01-31 Thread Justin VanDeBrake
I apologize for the long wait but, that version of ubuntu is pretty
unstable on my system. I have not gotten it to boot properly since I
posted the last bug update. It boots into the terminal and when I try
to start the graphics driver from there it crashes and says no display
connected. I will probably need to do a reinstall to fix the issue and,
I don't know when the next time that I will be able to work on it is.

Sorry for the slow in response.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1224579] Re: Video driver does not wake from suspend on A8-4500M

2014-01-10 Thread Justin VanDeBrake
I simply used the manufacturer bios update tool through windows on the
laptop then booted into ubuntu once the update was complete. The
problem persists in exactly the same manner as before. The output for
those commands are 217 and 09/07/2012 respectively.

If there is anything else I can help with just let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247189] Re: [13.10] Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user

2013-12-30 Thread Justin Solms
Dear all.

I have the same problem after upgrading from 13.04. Only now I use
ubuntu 13.10 GNOME running GDM.

[Although I had the same problem when I tried unity with lightdm -
History: I was so frustrated I tried Unity (32 64 bit) and now Gnome
all with the same results.]

Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 32-bit.
NVIDIA Corporation GT218M (NVS 3100M/PCIe/SSE2)
3.8.0-34-generic
GDM 3.8.4

I switch user. I have the new user session. I then alt-ctl-f7. I then
have a frozen background-artwork-only graphic screen for the 1st user
session. No alt-ctl-f1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and so on. I have not yet tested if
I am able to ssh into the machine after it hangs.

Please advise of any additional info or tasks needed. I am currently
away on leave but shall be able to attend to instructions from you re
this matter from 2nd last week Jan'14 onward.

This really affects me allot as I have seperate business and home user
id's and switched allot in 13.04.

Kind regards,
Justin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247832] [NEW] Lightdm often fails to show greeter (mouse cursor briefly visibly) ubuntu 13.10

2013-11-04 Thread Justin Ossevoort
Public bug reported:

On boot (or lightdm restart) often I don't get to see the greeter. Only
after running 'sudo restart lightdm' a couple of time do I get to
actually make it work.

X starts (and the mouse cursor is briefly visible) but shuts down
immediatly without an error in the logs.

On failure the lightdm greeter log shows:

(gnome-settings-daemon:2569): Gdk-WARNING **: gnome-settings-daemon:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1210397] Re: Xorg hang: (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed.

2013-09-27 Thread Justin Cook
Going on day 3 of adding:

 Option AccelMethod EXA

To the Display section of my xorg.conf file and I have not had one
instance of X freezing like before.

So far so good, I would say this solved my issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1210397] Re: Xorg hang: (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed.

2013-09-25 Thread Justin Cook
Came to this bug with same symptoms, Ubuntu 12.10 on Dell XPS M1330 with
Intel graphics(Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics
Controller) - intermittently the screen would freeze, but usually I had
control of the mouse still but couldn't click on anything, also couldn't
CTL+ALT+F{1-6} to a shell - but I could SSH in and had full CLI access.
I posted the errors from Xorg.0.log below.

I think I have found a solution here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168312

I added:
  Option AccelMethod EXA
to the Display section in xorg.conf, and so far so good. Thought I would put
this out there for others to try.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1224579] [NEW] Video driver does not wake from suspend on A8-4500M

2013-09-12 Thread Justin VanDeBrake
Public bug reported:

After switching to the manufacturers driver the problem went away so it
is a problem with the x.org driver. On Ubuntu 13.04 when waking from
suspend everything works except the display does not even power on. It
appears that the kernel is not waking the display driver. The
integrated graphics chip is Radeon 7640G.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088547] Re: External display is black after hot plug switching to it on Macbook Air 4, 2

Just a quick note that I've just upgraded to 13.04 alpha on my macbook
air 5,2 and external DVI displays now work beautifully. Not sure what
changes have caused the fix, but maybe they can be back ported for LTS

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097315] Re: Xorg hangs in drm_helper_connector_dpms

2013-03-25 Thread Justin Ossevoort
I must have missed that kernel in my testing, because I've been working with
linux-image-3.8.0-13-generic=3.8.0-13.23 for about 2 days now without any
problems (3.8.0-12 still had problems for me according to my notes).
So it appears to have been fixed (though the fix was a different upload than
the one for which it was resolved).

Thanks for the good work!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088547] Re: External display is black after hot plug switching to it on Macbook Air 4, 2

2013-01-20 Thread Justin Higgins
I see these same symptoms on my macbook air 5,2. I've tried two
different (24 and 23) Dell DVI monitors without success. For me, the
external monitor usually goes red when I plug it in the second time.
Sometimes this hangs the whole machine, sometimes not. In either case
the only way to get the external monitor to work again is to reboot.

I've tried the Xorg edgers PPA with no improvement to this problem.

I would love to see a fix for this, everything else works so well with
the MBA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-11-29 Thread Justin Fox
NVidia GEForce 610M and additional integrated Intel video card.

Intermittent hard freezes on Ubuntu and Mint - no traces as to why in
any log file anywhere. Tried fresh install of 12.04 with different hard
drive. Worked perfectly until I installed nvidia-stable drivers from
Ubuntu repository - hard froze within minutes.

Installed nouveau drivers and removed all traces of nvidia drivers.
NOTE: I had to remove the nvidia drivers in order to make my system
stable. Other posts had said that was not necessary - for me it was.

One nouveau drivers were active. I issued the following:

~$ sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-common nvidia-current nvidia-settings
~$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

ubuntu-desktop was a dependency of nvidia-common and therefore removed
with the purge - that's why the install of ubuntu-desktop afterwards.

My system has been rock solid since.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2012-09-28 Thread Justin Chudgar
FWIW, I've got a Probook 4320s and I just use this little script to make
the pad work as it should:

#!/bin/bash
# Saved to /usr/local/bin/synclient.sh
# chmod +x
synclient VertEdgeScroll=1
synclient HorizEdgeScroll=1
synclient
VertTwoFingerScroll=0

synclient
HorizTwoFingerScroll=0

synclient
RBCornerButton=3

synclient
LBCornerButton=1

synclient TapButton1=1

I use KDE so I have it set to be run at session startup through the
Session control panel. It will work with any DE, though.

I just installed 295.49-0ubuntu0.1.deb from the quantal repository onto a fresh

performance feels higher than when using nouveau.
I am running a gforce8800gtx.
The aforementioned problem had occured right after installing 12.04 and had
previously been present under 11.10 as well.
In both cases purging nvidia current solved the problem.

It seems this bug has been fixed in the latest nvidia-current.

I was using GNOME Shell, but I've switched back to Unity and haven't had
any issues for the passed few hours. It's funny, I just ordered a new
graphics card yesterday!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-11-23 Thread Justin
I should also mention that whatever Nvidia did seems to have fixed the
other problems I was having too. Audio no longer skips when something
using blur is active (such as the alt+tab switcher), the desktop grid
isn't all jumpy anymore, moving windows around is smooth, and it doesn't
seem any effects (like the Super+W widow picker) are planning on
crashing Unity anymore.

Everything is actually working smoothly! You guys should really
consider pushing the new driver to the main repos as a (critical) bug
fix release or whatever. Well, maybe after some more testing, it has
only been a few hours after all...my computer could explode any minute
for all I know ;)

other time except when I have Gnome Terminal maximized (which has often
been the case recently), and it seems to happen about every few hours.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-09-08 Thread Justin
I don't know if this is helpful/relevant/already mentioned, but this
problem exists in KDE too. The only difference is that the windows are
black instead of white. It happens in Kubuntu 11.04 and after a fresh
install of 11.10 it still occurs.

In Kubuntu the fix is easy and immediate. In System Setting - Desktop
Effects - Advanced untick the Enable Direct Rendering option. My
onboard Nvidia 'GeForce 6150SE nForce 430' works flawlessly (all
effects, like blur, and no more empty windows) after that. I wanted to
use Unity, but there is no equivalent option in CCSM as far as I know,
and searching the Ubuntu Wiki/Google yielded confusing, mixed results.

I am assuming the Kubuntu issue is the same as the Ubuntu issue since
the problem is exactly the same - I have used both and the behavior is
identical. So is it possible to disable direct rendering in Unity for
us poor folk with older computers who do not have the option of
upgrading or am I making a mistake in my logic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787859] Re: Xorg memory usage/leak

I solved this problem by using the xorg-edgers ppa. Now xorg hovers
around 150MB, which is way better than 500MB. The problem is that this
is not really a fix, and xorg-edgers comes with it's own host of issues.
I've been using it with out issue for a week or so, but with ppas like
this that could change any minute...

2011-05-31 Thread Justin Ossevoort
I'm having this problem with an Intel GMA videocard.
Sometimes it works to just kill gnome-screensaver, and today I managed to
recover by killing 'compiz' with a 'SIGUSR1' (after already having killed
gnome-screensaver). I wasn't able to check whether compiz has a nice restart
self command, but at least this command effectively restarted compiz and a few
seconds later I had my programs back.

I too am experiencing the compiz memory leak now. I left my computer on

directly related to this, but should it be a new bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725434] Re: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL

2011-04-07 Thread Justin
I got tired of nouveau freezing my desktop (at least I assume that's
what it was, maybe it's just compiz itself) and downgraded libcairo2 to
the maverick-updates version ( http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick-
updates/libcairo2 ). It's been about an hour and my computer hasn't
exploded yet. I'm using the proprietary Nvidia driver with an onboard
6150SE.

I have 2gb RAM, and contrary to other opinions, it affected my system
very noticeably and forced much swapping whereas none was needed before.
I have a 2.5Ghz dual core (albeit a bit dated) and programs that
normally open instantly were, well, not. Hope this gets fixed soon!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2010-09-02 Thread justin
I can confirm the bug re-occurs on Lucid. After building and applying
Tony's patch above, I was able to enable dual-screen once again.

I haven't had any crashes or lockups yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290288] Re: unlocking screen leads to window manager not working

2010-05-08 Thread Justin Mazzola Paluska
I haven't experienced this problem in 9.10. I can't upgrade my systems
to 10.04 yet -- work currently requires 9.10. This can probably be be
marked invalid -- I think the bug is more or less the same as 55739.

I have this problem with Intel 82G33/G31 (xgamma helps), so I'm not
sure this is related to ATI.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541749] Re: PCIExpress 1.0 16x Port (nforce 630i) and 16x-Card 8600 GTS only synced at bus-type 4x

2010-03-19 Thread Justin Piszcz
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1245pageID=4615
8. True PCI Express x16 slot

His board:
XFX MG-630i-7159

http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/motherboards/1756_3.html
The first thing to notice on this board is that it is a mATX board, designed to
fit into a small case. As the board has 18 PCI Express lanes available to it,
there’s not much sense in putting a lot of expansion on the board. A single x16
PCI Express 1.0a slot is available for a discrete graphics card like the 8800GT
or ATI 3870X2 if you want it. Rounding out the expansion on the board is a
single PCI Express x1 slot and two PCI slots, giving room for expansion if you
need it.

If the on-board uses x1, and the nic uses x1 (18-2) there should be x16
left for the x16 slot?
