[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273832] Re: [fglrx] Lockscreen/lid-close xserver freeze if UXA accel used.
Chris: I don't agree that this is an [fglrx] issue. I thought so at the beginning, but it happens even on a clean install before fglrx drivers have been installed at all, so long as the i915 is loaded with UXA accel via xorg.conf. Surely that means it's an i915 issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273832 Title: [fglrx] Lockscreen/lid-close xserver freeze if UXA accel used. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273832] [NEW] [i915] Lockscreen/lid-close xserver freeze if UXA accel used.
Public bug reported: On a Haswell system, if AccelMethod UXA selected in xorg.conf, xserver freezes (moveable cursor, but frozen and unresponsive desktop) each time the screen is locked (either via inactivity or lid close on laptop) . This freeze does not occur if SNA AccelMethod is selected. This freeze can also be avoided if vblank_mode=0 is used, even if UXA acceleration selected. 1) Ubuntu release: 13.10, but I also tested this on 12.04 LTS, in which case I got exactly the same bug, only the frozen screen was blank rather than frozen desktop image. 2) Expected result: No freeze when locking screen/closing lid. Just the login screen greeter. 3) How to reproduce: On Haswell system, in xorg.conf: Section Device Identifier Intel Graphics Driver intel Option AccelMethod UXA #bug occurs # Option AccelMethod SNA #(default) no bug! EndSection reboot. Try closing the lid or locking screen a number of times (normally within a few attempts you will see the freeze). 4) Resolution: Short term solution is to switch to a tty and back. Alternatively, boot with the SNA acceleration method instead. Another alternative: use a dri config file in home directory: ~/.drirc containing device screen=0 driver=dri2 application name=Default option name=vblank_mode value=0/ /application /device to turn off vsync. 5) Importance for fglrx driver users with AMD cards: fglrx and pxpress by default force the i915 driver to use UXA mode, thus when selecting the iGPU users of fglrx will experience this freezing bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267609] Re: [fglrx] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended, only mouse cursor moveable
Chris: nothing has changed from my logs. The fglrx driver is still present on my system, I simply meant that I had used the AMD Catalyst control centre to turn off the dGPU in favor of the Intel iGPU. Thus, in my logs on startup I see the dGPU being turned off, and `lshw -C video` gives the above result, only showing the Intel card , and moreover showing it being driven by the i915 driver. I thought, therefore, that the only function of fglrx in this setup was to hand over to the i915 driver and Intel card (Is it possible with hybrid graphics to completely uninstall fglrx in favour on just a driver for the Intel card, leaving the dGPU with no driver?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267609 Title: [fglrx] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended, only mouse cursor moveable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1267609/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267609] [NEW] [i915] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended, only mouse cursor moveable
Public bug reported: [Impact]: severe, compiz hangs frequently after resuming from suspend or the screensaver. Very similar to bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/966744 that is supposedly resolved, however I am using the Intel i915 driver for my intel card. This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. I attach the result of `alt+sysrq+1` followed by `alt+sysrq+t` from the tty during a freeze, dumping the trace into kern.log. ** Description changed: On Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS on a Lenovo Thinkpad S540. Upon closing the lid or leaving the laptop unattended for a certain time (such that the screen dims and re-login is required), the system freezes. The mouse can still be moved, but clicks do nothing and keyboard is non responsive. It possible to recover by ALT+CTRL+F1 then ALT+CTRL+F7, at which point the login prompt is presented and active. My power settings are set to Don't suspend (battery and AC) and Do nothing when the lid is closed (battery and AC), so I expect nothing to happen when closing the lid.
