[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 667635] Re: [arrandale] LCD monitor works only at higher resolution (intel)
Hi, my workaround is to use the mainstream kernel 2.6.36-020636rc8-generic With this kernel the display resolutions are still not detected automatically but they can be set by xrandr xrandr --newmode 800x600x60.3 40.00 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 +hsync +vsync xrandr --newmode 1024x768x60.0 65.00 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -hsync -vsync xrandr --newmode 1280x720@60 73.78 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757 xrandr --newmode 1024x768_40.00 40.25 1024 1056 1152 1280 768 771 775 789 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode (null)1 800x600x60.3 xrandr --addmode (null)1 1024x768x60.0 xrandr --addmode (null)1 1280x720@60 xrandr --addmode (null)1 1024x768_40.0 where the display has the stange name (null)1 (???!!) But at least it works. So far I was not able to use the standard kernel coming with the distribution, the display resolutions are not detected and using xrandr just freezes the monitor (hard reboot necessary). I will be very happy if Natty solves the problem in a clean way. Unfortunately I have not the time at the moment to test the beta version... I will give feedback when I will be able to test the new distribution. Regards and please keep up with the excellent work!, Luca Formaggia On Thu, Apr 28, 2011 at 1:18 AM, bugbot 667...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Hey Luca-formaggia, Thanks for your interest in Ubuntu. Thanks for testing maverick during its development period. Unfortunately it looks like this bug report didn't get attention during the maverick development period. But I see there's not been more comments on the bug since the release, which makes me wonder if this is still an issue for you? If you've not seen this issue since maverick's release yourself, it may have been solved by kernel or X or other updates that occurred late in the release; if so, would you mind please closing the bug for us? Go to the URL mentioned in this bug report, click the yellow icon(s) in the status column and set to 'Fix Released'. If you no longer have the hardware needed to reproduce the problem, or otherwise feel the bug no longer needs tracked in Launchpad, you can set the status to 'Invalid'. If you are the original reporter and still have this issue, just reply to this email saying so. (Or set the bug status to Confirmed.) If you are able to re-test this against 11.04 Natty Narwhal (our current development focus) and find the issue still affects Natty, please also run 'apport-collect bug-number' while running natty, which will add fresh logs and debug data, and flag it for the Ubuntu-X development team to look at. -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/667635 Title: LCD monitor works only at higher resolution (intel) Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: xorg I have a Dell Latitude E4310 with the latest ubuntu release (10.10) output of uname -a: 2.6.35-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 26 17:13:06 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux My LCD display appears only on 1366x768 resolution, no possibility of changing it, and this causes problems when I attach an external monitor (by the way, it detects the external monitor perfecctly) because I cannot do cloning. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 667635] Re: LCD monitor works only at higher resolution (intel)
I managed to have other resolutions working fine by adding xrandr --newmode 800x600x60.3 40.00 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 +hsync +vsync xrandr --newmode 1024x768x60.0 65.00 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -hsync -vsync xrandr --newmode 1280x...@60 73.78 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757 xrandr --addmode (null)1 800x600x60.3 xrandr --addmode (null)1 1024x768x60.0 xrandr --addmode (null)1 1280x...@60 to my .xprofile, and using kernel image 2.6.36-020636rc8-generic. With standard kernel 2.6.35 the monitor is recognised as DP1, e not with the strange (null)1, but trying to do the same trick just freezes the monitor and is not sufficient to restart X, I need to reboot the machine.
