[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend)

2024-04-29 Thread Philip M
I was able to get something working on my win 11 i9-13900H discrete
RTX2000 laptop.

I used:
mks.enable3d = "TRUE"
mks.enableDX12Renderer = "TRUE"
mks.enableDX11Renderer = "FALSE"
mks.dx12.vendorID = "0x17AA"

and I also had to do:
settings->system->dislay->graphics
entries for both vmware.exe and vmware-vmx.exe (its in a subdirectory)
Both entries specify that vmware must run only on RTX2000 and not the cpu GPU.

Still seeing
MESA: error: ZINK: failed to choose pdev
glx: failed to create drisw screen
but that might be known?
I dont think linux will be stable until you back off mesa to not have that
error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in vmware with 3d on (GTK ngl backend)

2024-04-26 Thread Philip M
Also tried virtualbox this morning on a different win 11 machine with an
nvidia laptop gpu and same thing.

No 3D acceleration is not stable on vmware (crashes after a while)
With 3D acceleration black screens really fast on vmware and virtualbox (which
uses the vmware driver by default)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2036422] Re: XWayland cannot click fullscreen window beyond 1024x768

2023-09-25 Thread Martin M
Additional information:

This bug only manifests when using Ubuntu in Virtualbox.

This bug manifests when Virtualbox Virtual screen is set to scale mode

Workaround: When I set Virtualbox Virtual screen to fixed resolution the
problem goes away in some apps.

In other apps the workaround doesn't help and the bug still manifests.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998950] Re: GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop

2023-01-16 Thread brian m. carlson
I don't see this happening anymore as of the release of linux-
image-5.19.0-28-generic. Neither the -28 nor the -29 kernel seem to
cause this to happen anymore, so I suspect this can probably be closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998950] Re: GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop

2023-01-06 Thread brian m. carlson
Since there appears to be upstream patches in kernel 6.0 and Mesa 22.3.1
which fix this, perhaps it would be possible to backport those to the
versions in Ubuntu 22.10? If not, would it at least be possible to
upload such packages to Lunar so that there's an option which doesn't
involve reinstalling the machine to go back to 22.04?

Right now my machine is freezing multiple times per day and it would be
really valuable to get those backports applied. I'm pretty sure this
affects all Alder Lake-P GPUs on Kinetic, since the upstream bug report
mentions multiple different hardware variants.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1998950] [NEW] GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop

2022-12-06 Thread brian m. carlson
Public bug reported:

I see frequent (multiple times per day) hangs on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1
Carbon Gen 10. When this occurs, part of the image tears away and X
becomes unusable. Sometimes the cursor continues to move for a short
time after the fact. In order to recover, I must SSH into the machine
and run `sudo killall -9 Xorg`, which drops me back to the lightdm login
screen and then things work again.

I've also seen this on Debian sid on a nearly identical machine, and
there when upgrading to kernel 6.0 and Mesa 22.3, the problem
disappears. However, those are not available in Kinetic.

I've tried both `i915.enable_psr=0` and `i915.enable_dc=0` as boot
parameters and this does not affect anything. The problem has been
occurring since I installed Ubuntu on this machine when I got it on
November 17.

I believe the upstream bug report is this:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/6757.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1888746] [NEW] graphics performance very poor

2020-07-23 Thread WAEL M ABDELMOHDY‬‏
Public bug reported:

Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware
rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D
graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem
you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question
may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2019-10-24 Thread M
Hi Dexuan,

Sorry for delay in answer - I have installed fresh Server 19.10
(installation is of course different - EFI partition setup by installer,
etc. etc.) and after kernel boot messages I've got immediately login
prompt.

After that I've done "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" and issue is
visible.

size of VM disk with xfs 2,5 GB, with xfs + ubuntu-desktop 5,5GB , size
of "normal" installation 8,5 GB

What can you propose in this situation?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2019-10-24 Thread M
Dear Ubuntu devs,

issue was reported on 17.10 and still - Ubuntu 19.04 starts fast, Ubuntu
19.10 upgraded from 19.04 / installed from scratch starts very slow.

ANY IDEAS?

2019-10-20 Thread M
Hi,

If possible, please try 19.04 or LTS 18.04 and compare startup time - my
guess is that it will start almost immediately and you will see, that
you already reproduced it :)

I'm sure let's say in 90% :) -> 28 seconds is looonnnggg (like I said,
I've got about 2 seconds for older Ubuntu).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2019-10-20 Thread M
Hi,

Thanks for comments #25 and #26,

I don't know how fast is your machine, but on mine earlier (before
19.10) I had startup in just few seconds, now have this delay. Yes, this
is maybe not critical, but should be fixed, because can go into Ubuntu
20.04 ;)

Anyway, I'm using stock kernel 5.3 + I've done "systemd-analyze blame"

In first line I had also many seconds with plymouth-quit-wait.service.

I've done

sudo apt remove plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text
sudo apt remove plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo
sudo apt remove lighttpd

and removed splash from /etc/default/grub

(yes, I can do it, this is not my critical VM)

Result:

kernel starts, I see messages, then screen cleans and I have delay

systemd-analyze doesn't show anything specific (all delays are very
short - the longest is gdm like yours and the rest looks quite similar)

I don't know if this is Ubuntu or Hyper-V specific,

other ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2019-10-18 Thread M
One thing, which I didn't mentioned earlier:

there is graphic artifact (color on half of screen), then "Ubuntu
loading" dots, then text cursor with delay, then login screen.

I forgotten about "Ubuntu loading" dots.

lspci -k output is empty (even with sudo), the rest is attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1275042] Re: Wrong colors with Mesa 11.1.2-1 on ubuntu MATE 16.04 PowerPC

** Description changed:

- Hi all,
+ Upstream report:

I've tried Mesa 9.2.2-1 and 10.0.1 on Debian Sid, Lubuntu 13.10, and on
Lubuntu 14.04. Unfortunately all have issued false colors in games. They
appear to be ABGR instead of RGBA, thus blue becomes green, red becomes
  alpha etc.

This issue affects sdl2 applications either.

The Mesa version 11.1.2-1 doesn't work either on ubuntu MATE 16.04
  PowerPC.

Mesa 8.0.5-4 and Mesa 9.1.6 have no color problem.

The transitional solution is to install the old Mesa 8.0.X with "Force
Version" with the Synaptic package manager on new distributions.

In my point of view, the problem is in the source file p_format.h in the
directory src/gallium/include/pipe/. There is some code for translating
colors for big-endian machines. The problem is, this code is only for
the CPU. I mean for LLVMpipe for the CPU. The Radeon graphics cards
don't need this translating code but IBM pSeries machines without
graphics cards need this code. This code translates the colors in a
wrong way for Radeon graphics cards. I removed this code and after
compiling Mesa again, the colors are displayed correctly. I released
some unofficial Mesa versions with this patch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-09-21 Thread M K
I can describe that on latest Ubutnu 18.04.3 LTS (Linux local 5.0.0-29-generic
#31~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 12 18:29:21 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux) that there is following behavior for suspend (on HP Spectre x360
15").
- For Nvidia GPU Prime profile, the reliability of wake-up from suspend seems
to be improved with recent updates, however there is issue with power draining
and heating of the laptop.
- When using the integrated Intel graphic by selecting it in PRIME profiles,
the computer come out from suspend reliable, however there is the same issue,
that the battery is draining and laptop temperature is becoming high while the
laptop is suspended.

The issue is present also with no peripherals connected, and during
suspend the laptop fans are off, so the temperature of laptop is
becoming quite high.

Hi,

I have switched from Gnome to i3, this fixed the issue for me.

The underlying issue might have been fixed by
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm-
tip/commit/?id=3cf71bc9904d7ee4a25a822c5dcb54c7804ea388, but I didn't
check.

2019-03-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hark, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) To confirm a regression, has this always been an issue since you
installed "Ubuntu-Server 10.04 LTS" or is this something that started to
happen after an update?

2) To clarify, did you personally test the WORKAROUNDs noted in the Bug
Description, and confirm this works for your hardware?

2) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

If it is confirmed via your testing that it doesn't work in Ubuntu
kernel 4.13.0-19, then one could reverse commit bisect from 4.13.0-19 to
4.13.0-21 to find which commit(s) is the fix following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Commit_bisecting_Ubuntu_kernels

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1816947] Re: [Dell XPS L321X] Touchpad not working after last apt-get upgrade

2019-02-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
opensas, the next step is to fully commit bisect from 4.13.13 to 4.15.

This will allow for a direct review of the offending commit for either
reverting, or further improvements. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? This article was
written for folks who don't know anything about linux, so it's easy to
follow.

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions, or providing a commit
without testing it and reverting it is not fully commit bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the bad commit (not kernel version) has
been confirmed via testing, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1794033] Re: i965: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Bad address

2018-12-17 Thread m...@papersolve.com
Just hit me, kernel 4.19.8-liquorix-amd64, Ubuntu 18.10. I was running
with modesetting, but decided to change to intel driver (freshly
compiled from git) to see if I run into it again (it seems pretty rare
though so will probably be tough to hit). Has anyone definitely hit it
on xf86-video-intel or only modesetting?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799920] Re: External Dell P2715Q doesn't wake up from standby anymore after 18.04 -> 18.10 upgrade

2018-10-26 Thread Cedric M
Hi,

For some reason apport-collect just exit at the end, and doesn't send anything
to launchpad...
No error, no crash -- just exit to shell when being instructed to send the
report.

$ apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-core 1799920
The authorization page:

should be opening in your browser. Use your browser to authorize
this program to access Launchpad on your behalf.
Waiting to hear from Launchpad about your decision...
$

(access granted to launchpad, answer the few questions asked, click
send... and it just exit).

Is there anything special I can provide manually?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799920] Re: External Dell P2715Q doesn't wake up from standby anymore after 18.04 -> 18.10 upgrade

2018-10-25 Thread Cedric M
Just got the external screen in the same state again (ie, blank) after
leaving the desk for 5-10 minutes.

While in that state, the external screens tells that it doesn't receive any
signal.
Switching it's input from it's usual DP input to another one, and switching
back again does restore the image.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799920] [NEW] External Dell P2715Q doesn't wake up from standby anymore after 18.04 -> 18.10 upgrade

2018-10-25 Thread Cedric M
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since upgrading to 18.10, my Dell P2715Q external screen (connected to a
Dell XPS 13 9343 laptop) fails to wakeup after a period of inactivity:

- leave the laptop idle for a while, gnome screen lock will take over
and shut down the internal panel & external screen (it enters power
saving mode). Same behaviour as 18.04.

- however, if I come back after an hour or so and move the mouse or
press a key, only the internal panel wakes up. The external screen
remains blank (Xorg probably think that the external screen is on as the
password prompt of gnome screen lock will not be visible on the internal
panel, it's probably displayed on the blank surface -- I have to enter
my password blind to get back to the desktop).

Running xrandr without any argument sometimes helps getting the external screen
to turn on.
When it does not, I have to turn the screen OFF and ON again.

I haven't seen any error message in dmesg or Xorg.0.log.

1) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the

restart xorg-server:
Section "InputClass"
 Identifier "Jabra"
MatchProduct "GN Netcom A/S Jabra EVOLVE LINK MS"

1)

To clarify, you are stating that by default, the touchpad doesn't work
at all. However, after using the non-default kernel parameters, and
installing the NVIDIA proprietary drivers, the touchpad then begins to
work?

2)
>"after an update my touchpad stopped again"

Which update precisely, and what date was the update applied?

3) To confirm this is resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

2018-08-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
fokedFromTheLife, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Please answer all of the following:

1) Regarding your Bug Description comment:
>"after a while..."

1a) Could you please define specifically how long a while is? Seconds, minutes,
hours, etc.?
1b) Could you please advise to after a while from when? Boot up, login, opening
a program, etc.?

2) Is this issue something that started to happen after an update? If
so, which and when precisely?

3) Regarding the non-default kernel parameters:
nouveau.modeset=0 tpm_tis.interrupts=0 acpi_osi=Linux
i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 idle=nomwait

If you remove these, is the issue still reproducible?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen (18.04 & 18.10)

2018-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Chris Guiver, you may need to use:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash

when filing crash reports in order for the upload/uploaded files to be
generated, and, in turn, to get the errors reported successfully.

Given the reproducibility of the crash, and how you are using the latest
Ubuntu release, I'll mark this Triaged for now, and an xorg developer
may further review.

I sleep my XFCE (xubuntu) machine rather than turning it off at night.

Today as with yesterday morning, instead of getting the locker-screen
after hitting the power-button to wake my machine, i get a blank screen
with a RADEON two-line text message top left on screen which appear only
momentarily as screen is erased and I get the login/greeter screen.

(it's happened 4-5 times, but does NOT happen every time)

I can login fine, but my xfce session is new.

I have grep'd for the message I see (yesterday & today), but can't find

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen (18.04 & 18.10)

2018-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Chris Guiver:

1) While the issue is being root caused, please keep light-locker, and
caffeine uninstalled.

2) Regarding the file:
-rw-r- 1 guiverc whoopsie 20M Aug 1 08:28 _usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.1000.crash

No error reports have been reported to errors since 2018-07-11. One may
further confirm is if in the folder /var/crash there are files .upload
and .uploaded found along with the same .crash file (or a bug report is
created on Launchpad). Clicking on the crash GUI doesn't indicate if a
crash was successfully reported. For more on this, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

Hence, could you please report the crash, and advise to the additional
files in /var/crash?

2018-07-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Chris Guiver:

1) To confirm, please run the following command and post the results:
sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id

2) To confirm a WORKAROUND in 18.10, if you uninstall both light-locker
and caffeine simultaneously, is a crash still reproducible?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1578011] Re: Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor when docked

2018-07-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
vik:

1) As per the sticker of the monitor itself (not from the Bug
Description, or the result of a terminal command), could you please
provide the full monitor manufacturer and model?

2) Regarding how you have the monitor connected, is it plugged into the
dock's DVI-I, or DisplayPort port? If you switch the port is this still
reproducible?

3) Regarding the connection of the monitor to the dock, is this via
straight DVI-I cord, using dongle/adapter, etc.?

4) If you instead undock the computer, and plug the monitor directly
into the computer, is this still reproducible?

5) Regarding the Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock, have you applied the
latest firmware to it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 268506] Re: Cannot configure Synaptics TouchStyk settings (e.g. sensitivity, tapping, press/select)

2018-06-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
James (jamestheawesomedude), it will help immensely if you use the computer the
problem is reproducible with, file a new report with Ubuntu by first ensuring
the package xdiagnose is installed, and click the Yes button for attaching
additional debugging information after running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

** No longer affects: libinput (Ubuntu)
