Actually I got tired of this and got a new monitor that supports the DP port on my laptop. I no longer have the old one, so I can't test this any further. I suppose that means it can be closed? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573959] Re: On-screen text disappears after suspend
@longwave Thanks for the tip, as non-linux expert there is yet much to learn. Il try installing linux-generic-hwe-16.04 and hopefully it will never ever happen again. My question would be why the 4.X|X>4 Kernel is not part of a regular update for 16.04, but thats maybe out of the scope of this discussion. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1573959] Re: On-screen text disappears after suspend
Just for the record My Dell Latitude E7440 (Intel graphics card only) experiences the same problem with Xubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus (issue was not present in Xubuntu 12.04, and I didn't tried intermediate versions) I tried several workarounds but none seems to work this far. I updated to Kernell 4.8.0-29-generic with # apt-get install linux-image-4.8.0-29-generic That was the latest update available in the repo at the date. It installed successfully. After reboot the Xorg process was using >80% CPU and the computer was even more sluggish than a Windows Vista running in an Intel 80386 (5 seconds delay for a typed char to appear on screen in console). There is no need to be an Ubuntu expert to conclude that just updating the Kernel is not enough to solve the problem. Maybe I'm missing some extra configuration or also the X-Server/lightdm daemon must be updated accordingly. Also I'm differentiating Xubuntu from legacy Ubuntu because it affects Xfce and Unity. Cheers! ** Attachment added: "How desktop looks like after resume from suspended." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1573959/+attachment/4828906/+files/bug.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573959 Title: On-screen text disappears after suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1573959/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655828] Re: Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected
1. I bought a new monitor and have been using it via the mini-DP port for the past week, and have not noticed the flickering. 2. I'm not sure what the second question is referring to. If it's about post #13: The install script didn't work in 17.04, so I had to make some changes and compile it manually. It turns out the latest version of the evdi module already incorporates the changes I made, but the released version included with the DisplayLink installer does not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1655828 Title: Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1655828/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655828] Re: Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected
Success (sort of)! I pulled up the evdi source, commented out the references to dirty_info_property from evdi_connector.c, and the reference to drm_mode_create_dirty_info_property in evdi_modeset.c. I compiled the whole driver manually, and I was able to install it successfully in 17.04. I can still see the flickering, though it does seem slightly less pronounced than usual. I haven't used it very heavily, but I can definitely see the flickering.

All right, I tried to install the latest version of DisplayLink, but it failed. I'm attaching the make.log. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Just an update. The kernel options that Igor recommended seems to work fine for me - noacpi noapm - nohz=off - acpi_skip_timer_override So far I've just past the 24H uptime w/out any X server issues.. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Thanks Igor and Peter, those are indeed very surprising news, I was just few seconds to reboot and start the fedora install.I guess I was very hot headed yesterday, (it's not fun when you have to kill your working session many times a day). I haven't tried the kernel options you mention Igor, I'll give them a try right now. Then I'll check on an old kernel. Everybody seems to compliment PCLinuxOS, I might install it side by side. One important thing to notice, I'm in a multi screen environment, and seems to me that this bug is more prone to happen when I click on an application let's say screen one, and while that application opens (whatever I clicked it) if I move my mouse very hard to another screen trying to reach another application it crashes. I'll try to replicate, If happen to found a way to make it crash (non-randomly) I guess we've reach a milestone here guys Cheers -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I can confirm the same issue here after upgrade from 9.04 (x86_64, gnome, 100% CPU utilization, I've remove all the eye-candy effects) I usually can kill -9 ssh'ing from another machine, and that, at least takes me to the login screen. One really interesting thing I noticed today was that after removing openjdk and having sun-jdk (due to another issue) as my default seems to really really reduce the CPU usage. Are you guys using any open-jdk java software the moment the freeze happen? -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351532] Re: [Jaunty] X quits with code 0177 when moving windows or scrolling using tdfx video driver
Hello. I solved this issue performing a downgrade of the jaunty's drivers, I installed the intrepid's xserver-xorg packages. I changed the repositories of Jaunty by the repositories of Intrepid. Then I removed the xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-video-tdfx and related packages with apt-get. After this, I did sudo apt-get clean and I installed again these packages from the intrepid and all worked ok. This is the tdfx package : aptitude show xserver-xorg-video-tdfx Paquete: xserver-xorg-video-tdfx Estado: instalado Instalado automáticamente: sí Versión: 1:1.4.0-1build2 Prioridad: opcional Sección: x11 Desarrollador: Ubuntu Core Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com Tamaño sin comprimir: 164k Depende de: libc6 (= 2.1.3), xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.4.99.906-2ubuntu2) Tiene conflictos con: xserver-xorg-driver-tdfx Reemplaza: xserver-xorg ( 6.8.2-35), xserver-xorg-driver-tdfx Proporciona: xserver-xorg-video-4 Descripción: X.Org X server -- tdfx display driver This package provides the driver for 3dfx Voodoo video cards and their derivatives. I also retained this packages for avoiding further updates when I returned to the repositories of Jaunty. Until now all worked ok and I have not found still any issue.
