Hello! The problem is that now when I close the lid my laptop suspends, and there's no more an option to disable this behavior. Any help? Is it possible to run that command from the console or do I need a gui? If quickly switching to the VT, Xorg does not crash. If gnome-settings-daemon is not running, this bug does not exist. That's very very strange! I've not had crashes anymore (though I have to switch to the VT to get the image back on the screen). I will continue to test it. Unfortunately the xorg edgers ppa does not fix the problem in my case, even if we have the same laptop and the same error. I'm running it to see the cpu consumption. Anyway after lost of reboots and a change the bug is vanished: - uninstalled virtualbox 3 (deb from the site) - removed the compiled kernel modules This could be the problem, but I can't explain to myself why this happened from the live cd too. Thanks for answering. My card is intel x4500hd and my xorg.conf is the default one (I'm not on linux now) What's interesting is that even the live session from the daily live cd has the same problem, while alpha 4 has not. Another interesting thing is that xorg is not the only process which eats cpu, but almost every process (with a non trivial logic of course) are using lots of cpu. I've also tried xset dpms force off and left there for 1 hour. no freeze.
