[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1771185] Re: Secondary monitor not connecting in 18.04 LTS

2019-08-08 Thread reinhard zufall
I upgraded my system to the 5.0 kernel of 18.04.3 recently, but the
external monitor is still not detected and also xrandr still lists HDMI
as disconnected. I was hoping badly for an improvement, but so far it
does not seem as if someone is working on this bug.

I can confirm that the drivers don't get loaded in 18.04 even though they are
installed. This is also what I get when running nvidia-settings from terminal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1771185] Re: Secondary monitor not connecting in 18.04 LTS

2018-12-20 Thread reinhard zufall
I have basically the same problem. I was using 18.04LTS on a HP ZBook15
laptop and also wanted to connect an external monitor by using the HDMI
interface. I have 2 graphics cards intel(i915) + NVidia(390drivers), and
whatever I chose in prime-select/Nvidia-settings, the external monitor
did not work. 'xrandr' always listed the HDMI port as disconnected,
which was not true of course. I also tried using different HDMI cables
due to stackoverflow suggestions, but this didn't solve the issue. Then,
I updated to 18.10, which I still use now, hoping there would be an
improvement, but nothing changed. The monitor is still not working,
"xrandr" still says that the monitor is disconnected.

Would really be great if this could be solved. Hoping for the best.
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1732735] Re: hostname lookup broken in ldap.conf

2017-12-18 Thread Reinhard
It looks like, that there is a problem, when the ldap-client searches
with exponential backoff for the servers:

Following change seems to fix the problem, BUT a rational sounding has
to be changed?

In /etc/ldap.conf:

default Reconnect policy:

bind_policy hard

has to be changed to:

bind_policy soft

then:

In /etc/ldap.conf: -> host ldap01 ldap02 works as expected, and PC
without network-cable boots normal.

** Summary changed:

- hostname lookup broken in ldap.conf
+ bind_policy hard broken in ldap.conf

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ldap-auth-client (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- bind_policy hard broken in ldap.conf
+ bind_policy hard broken in ldap.conf in 17.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1732735] Re: hostname lookup broken in ldap.conf

2017-11-20 Thread Reinhard
Did more testing in Ubuntu 17.10:
in ldap.conf:

host 10.0.0.9 10.0.0.10 => IP is working

host ldap01 ldap02 => hostname is NOT working

host ldap01.app.tsn => FQHN is NOT working

and NOT working does not mean that just ldap is broken, it means pc stays in
endless boot loop
:-(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1732735] [NEW] hostname lookup broken in ldap.conf

2017-11-16 Thread Reinhard
Public bug reported:

A scripted installation of an ldap-client WORKING in ubuntu 16.04 is broken in
ubuntu 17.10.
In ldap.conf:
host ldap01 ldap02 (was working in 16.04)
has to be replaced with:
host 10.0.0.9 10.0.0.10

otherwise the system stays in an endless loop at boot up!

Change from hostname to ip has to be done with a rescue system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1670386] [NEW] Xorg freeze when switching from graphic to text konsole

2017-03-06 Thread Reinhard
Public bug reported:

When changing from graphic X11 Window (screen 7) to an text konsole (screen 1 -
6) everything ok.
When changing back tty1 to graphic system hangs.
Mouse can be moved, but click doesn't have any effect.
Changing back to text konsole is working, but takes a long time (~ 1 minute).
In syslog an error message is logged. (see attached file kernel.dump)

Error in syslog could be reproduced on 2 lenovo thinkcenter m91p and one
fujitsu esprimo c700, all of them with intel graphic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590737] Re: Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0, options QFlags(), depthBufferSize 24, redBufferSize -1, greenBufferSize -1, blueBufferSize -1,

2017-01-19 Thread Reinhard
This bug also occurs with the latest Nvidia Driver 375.26 and Qt 5.8
RC1. However not with the simple Qt OpenGL Demo Apps and this simple qml
test app, so using 375.26 might solve the issue for some people
including webbrowser-app.

Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0,
options QFlags(), depthBufferSize 24,
redBufferSize -1, greenBufferSize -1, blueBufferSize -1, alphaBufferSize
8, stencilBufferSize 8, samples -1, swapBehavior
QSurfaceFormat::SwapBehavior(DoubleBuffer), swapInterval 1, profile
QSurfaceFormat::OpenGLContextProfile(NoProfile))

In my case it does not crash with the Intel driver (however this driver
has performance "issues").

I'm getting this issue on the stable 16.04 Ubuntu. Does this mean Mir
should not (cannot) be used in this combination on Xenial ? I merely
like to have a test system with similar behaviour as the mobile one as
development on PC is much easier than on tablet/phone alone.

Btw, the latest release of x2goagent disables both GLX and XFIXES by

fun fact: recompiling libxfixes 5.0-4 in a raring environment avoids the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-12-14 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Another, less intrusive workaround is to start x2goagent/nxagent with
the command-line option -extension XFIXES, which disables the XFIXES
extension completely in the x server. KDE does not seem to badly require
it, I guess some effects won't work anymore.

In x2go, you have to change two locations in /usr/bin/x2gostartagent.
This should also do with plain NX and FreeNX, but I'm not sure what
script start the nxagent.

It seems that the segfault comes from the fact that Qt passes an X11
event with a bogus root field member. This way, the XRRRootToScreen
call is not able to find the screen number. the librandr call above does
not expect this case and just segfaults.

installing fglrx-updates:

Error! Application of patch fix-build-issue-on-i386-where-TS_USEDFPU-is-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800140] Re: radeon: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2012-03-18 Thread Reinhard Tartler
I'm experiencing similar problems with an Radeon HD 6700 graphics card:
After resuming, I see the mouse pointer, but the unlock screen does not
appear. In fact, it seems to be rather invisible but still active, as I
am able to enter my password and unlock the screen blindly.

Switching to an text console, playing with xrandr and switching back
results in screen corruption. Killing the X server with sysrq-k brings
back an lightdm login screen (but obviously kills my session).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720389] Re: The touchpad works very bad

2011-05-08 Thread Reinhard
Hallo Airam,

Thanks for your help in my https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/762768.

I sympathize with your feeling I'm feeling a bit alone here

May be we are spread over to many bugs?

I still hope that the 8 month old SuSE fixes will find a way into the
normal distribution.

For the moment I will use the normal package with 2 changes in my
parameters:

AreaBottomEdge=4331 (instead =0)
Important: to make text-selection possible

TopEdge = 0 (instead=1627)
just improves usability: cursor moves, even if the finger is at the top of
cklickpad.

It looks like, if there is no major strategy for that Clickpad - stuff,
which gets quit complex with all these features and options.

2011-05-08 Thread Reinhard
Hi Chase,

should not this and Airam's bug be part of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/linux/+bug/582809?

Maybe the next experience can help to build a useful config-file:

 Setting
TopEdge = 0 (instead 1627)
increases the area where the cursor can be used.

With TopEdge = 1627 vertical moves have no effect at the top of the clickpad.
horizontal moves produce vertical scrolling.

who understands that?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762768] Re: cannot select text with left click with touchpad

2011-04-30 Thread Reinhard
Hi Chase,

thanks for working on that problem.

Looking on the Synaptic website
(http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/products/clickpad), i think my
Pavilion dv7-4011eg has a clickpad.

Setting AreaBottomEdge=4331 seems to work good.

It is not necessary to change JumpyCursorThreshold.

A entry in 51-synaptics-quirks.conf would be a fine solution.

May i helps you to know some more data:
from XorgLog.txt:
(--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: x-axis range 1472 - 5672
(--) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: y-axis range 1408 - 4550
from synclient:
LeftEdge = 1766
RightEdge = 5378
TopEdge = 1627
BottomEdge = 4331

i find these values not really logical: start at 1472 ??
what happens between 4331 and 4550. to my mind the pad works on its borders?

2011-04-26 Thread Reinhard
hi,

just updated my system.
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.3.99+git20110116ubuntu11
was replaced with
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.3.99+git20110116ubuntu12.

touchpad - behavior did not change.

changing
AreaLeftEdge from 0 to 2000
JumpyCursorThreshold from 0 to 50
made it possible to select text. (before I got the context menu)

the solution is not very good, because with AreaLeftEdge=2000 left side

more testing with synclient:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736523] Re: cannot left click and drag with touchpad (regression)

2011-04-13 Thread Reinhard
I am using Kubunt 11.04 with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.3.99+git20110116 on
a HP dv7 with Synaptics Touchpad (model: 1, fw: 7.4, id: 0x1e0b1).
I can't highlight text or move windows. On the same laptop with Kubuntu 10.10
the touchpad works?

from the buglog I conclude that the problem is present in various forks

I'm reassigning there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717264] Re: Selection with Synaptics Touchpad impossible

2011-02-18 Thread reinhard
good luck!

strange touchpad-behavior does not affect working touchpad in kubuntu
10.10, as i wrote before.

only reboot from kubuntu 11.04 to 10.10 produces bad touchpad-behavior
in kubuntu 10.10.

text selection had been working in kubuntu 10.10 with changes described

the crash can be reproduced quite easily here. just fire up gwenview,

any other video application does the trick too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524774] Re: xmodmap failure BadValue error, 118 (X_SetModifierMapping)

2010-05-05 Thread Reinhard
Yes, thanks NiñoScript's workaround worked. Not as I anticipated, but in
the end CapsLock became Hyper_L.

I changed
CAPS = 66;
to
HYPR = 66;

and commented away the original (HYPR = 208; or something like that).

Then I still needed to run
xmodmap -e 'keycode 66 = Hyper_L'

... did not fully understand the keycode concept in xorg, but for now it
works, so I leave it for that.

Thx,
Reinhard

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524774] Re: xmodmap failure BadValue error, 118 (X_SetModifierMapping)

2010-05-01 Thread Reinhard
This bug is really serious and if not fixed will make me leave Lucid at
once.

My whole workflow is resting on Hyper_L on CapsLock or precisely:

xmodmap -e 'remove lock = Caps_Lock'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 66 = Hyper_L'
xmodmap -e 'add mod3 = Hyper_L'

I am using emacs 99% of the time and without the Hyper-key on Caps_Lock
- no emacs...

You can imagine what that means. any help very appreciated!

I wondered if it is possible to manipulate the keymap manually on a
deeper level, so that I do not have to rerun the script each time I
reboot, logout or run setxkbmap?

I do not have compiz enabled - just plain metacity. A week ago everything was
 fine with my system ...

are you sure that the kernel messages in your /var/log/kern.log are the
same as here?

if not, you may be experiencing another bug which should be filed
seperately.

Further references that might be related to this issue:

Bug #329860 (but this is with vt switch, not with external monitors. Might be a
seperate problem but symptoms look similar)

possibly https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22996

based on these references, and the fact that Felix experiences similar

me a bit:

in earlier releases of ubuntu, the maximum desktop size is limited, read
I was not able to combine the internal LVDS (1024x768) with my external
display that has a much larger resolution of 1920x1200. This new
behavior however shows that the mouse coursor can reach both screens
independently.

The other interesting observation is that a simple query auto enables
the external screen in a extended desktop configuration. Is this
behavior intended or a (possibly related) defect?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297335] Re: Video on Intel D201GLY2 motherboard still broken, can't compile Intel's fixed drivers

2009-11-26 Thread reinhard
I still have this problem as well, under 9.10 it is even heavier than under
ther earlier Uby's.
With those verticalartefacts the system is just unworkable.

The only workaround still is to use vesa graphics, without *any* hardware
enhancement.
(and that means incredibly slow graphics !)

What is going wrong that this problem is not even noticed
(let alone being looked at :-[ )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297335] Re: Video on Intel D201GLY2 motherboard still broken, can't compile Intel's fixed drivers

2009-11-26 Thread reinhard
** Tags added: karmic
** Tags removed: intrepid

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis

Ubuntu's drivers for SiS video on the Intel D201GLY2 motherboard have
known issues, namely that there is Vertical Noise on the screen. (It
looks like it's displaying an incorrect pixel every time there's a write
to video RAM). It happens on Ubuntu's stock drivers on both Hardy and
  Intrepid (haven't tried earlier versions).

Intel has their driver source code available which fixes the issues,
except while it would compile under Hardy, it won't compile under
Intrepid, apparently due to using a different xorg API.

I recently tried switching from Hardy to Intrepid. Before, I was able
to use a binary driver which someone built for Hardy. But on Intrepid,
the binary driver has the wrong ABI version, so it won't work.

I ended up reverting back to Hardy.

Is there any work going on at making this motherboard work? I briefly
tried porting the code to the new API, but it was too complicated for
me, considering that I know absolutely nothing about how to write xorg
  drivers.
+
+ This problem is still present in Karmic, even a little worse than
+ earlier.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456590] [NEW] symlinks updatet the wrong way

2009-10-20 Thread Felix Reinhard
Public bug reported:

The Xorg Server couldn't load the glx module after installing the
nvidia-glx-180 packet with aptitude, tried 170 too, but i doesn't worked either.
That's for the bad news, but the good news is, I found the problem and a
workaround:

The Problem was, that an unsucessful attemp to install nvidia Cuda
drivers left three (as far as i know) librariers in my system. Some
symlinks wheren't updated the prober way and still pointed to those
relicts.

the first one was
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.190.18
the symlink
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so pointed corectly to libglx.so.180.44
so this wasn't the problem

but there where two lybraries left on /usr/lib/:
libGLcore.so.190.18 and libGL.so.190.18

the symlinks
libGLcore.so.1
libGL.so.1
pointed to them when they should have pointed to
libGLcore.so.180.44 and libGL.so.180.44.

After changing the symlinks manualy to the right library everything
worked fine.

Maybe theres a way the packet manager points this two symlinks to the correct
version instead of the newest one?
the later is exactly the behaviour of ldconfig which i tried in first place.

after i removed the files
libGLcore.so.190.18 and libGL.so.190.18
ldconfig worked correctly!

I hope the information helped, if there are furtehr questions, please
don't hesitate to contact me!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393041] Re: attempt to change volume causes graphics hang

2009-06-28 Thread Reinhard Tartler
no userspace application must be able to crash the video driver. your
kernel log indicates that your kernel is hung in some sort of deadlock
in the intel driver. I'm therefore reassigning to the intel driver, but
I suspect the actual problem is already fixed in a later kernel version.
The xorg maintainers in ubuntu should know best.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 388413] Re: xine crashes on open with X Error - BadAlloc

2009-06-18 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Yes, you're using the intel driver and xv is working fine. The driver
reports that it is out of ressources and xine can nothing do but quit.

I believe that this is a limitation in either your hardware or in the
driver. Does xine work if you lower the display resolution?

in any case, I open a bugtask for the intel driver.
